Fri Mar 1514:28Justin Wilson Inks Major-League Deal With Reds
Free-agent reliever Justin Wilson has signed a major-league deal with the Cincinnati Reds after he opted out of his minor-league pact with the Dodgers on Wednesday. The left-hander last saw big-league action with the Reds in the 2022 season, posting a 2.45 ERA in five appearances but was forced to undergo Tommy John surgery that cost him the 2023 campaign, as well. He did appear briefly in the minors with the Brewers last season but the club declined their option on Wilson this winter. The long-time big leaguer has largely been effective in his career, posting a 3.41 ERA and a 25.9% K% across 527 appearances. He certainly won't be in line for saves and likely won't see many hold opportunities, leaving him off the fantasy radar at this point.

Thu Nov 2 202321:38Brewers Decline Their Options On Andrew Chafin, Justin Wilson
The Milwaukee Brewers declined to pick up their 2024 options on left-handed relievers Andrew Chafin ($7.25 million) and Justin Wilson ($2.5 million) on Thursday, making them free agents this offseason. The club also claimed infielder Vinny Capra off waivers from the Pittsburgh Pirates. Chafin will get a $725,000 buyout, while Wilson's buyout is worth $150,000. Chafin, 33, wasn't as effective in 2023 with the Brewers and Arizona Diamondbacks, sporting a 4.73 ERA (4.02 FIP), 1.42 WHIP, a career-high eight saves and 63 strikeouts in 51 1/3 relief innings. He had a 5.82 ERA and 1.42 WHIP in 17 innings for Milwaukee. Wilson, 36, didn't pitch at all in 2023 while recovering from Tommy John surgery and also suffering a lat strain in the second half.

Sat Aug 5 202312:35Justin Wilson's Season Is Over
Milwaukee Brewers manager Craig Counsell confirmed that left-handed reliever Justin Wilson (lat) is done for the rest of the season with a left-lat injury. The Brewers placed Wilson on the 15-day injured list last weekend, and he won't be ready to return for the rest of the year. The 35-year-old veteran southpaw had just returned from the 60-day injured list last Friday after coming back from Tommy John surgery, so it's a tough break for him. Wilson was injured getting ready to enter the game out of the bullpen just before making his 2023 debut. The good news is his lat injury isn't nearly as serious as Tommy John surgery, so he should be ready for spring training next year.

Fri Jul 28 202321:24Justin Wilson Reinstated From Injured List
The Milwaukee Brewers reinstated left-handed reliever Justin Wilson (elbow) from the 60-day injured list on Friday and moved left-hander Bennett Sousa (shoulder) to the 60-day injured list in a corresponding move. Wilson is joining the Brewers and will be making his 2023 season debut when he gets into a game after having Tommy John surgery in June of last year. The 35-year-old veteran gave up one run in 6 1/3 minor-league rehab innings while striking out six and walking one. Wilson is unlikely to pitch in high-leverage situations for the Brew Crew bullpen, so he should remain well off the fantasy radar for the rest of the season.

Tue Jul 25 202308:29Justin Wilson Returning This Week
Milwaukee Brewers left-hander Justin Wilson (elbow) joined the club for their road trip on Monday and will come off the injured this either Wednesday or Friday, according to MLB.com. The 35-year-old has yet to pitch in a Brewers uniform, as he underwent Tommy John surgery in June of last season. Wilson owns a career 3.41 ERA, 1.28 WHIP, and 25.9% strikeout rate with 18 saves over 11 seasons. The Brewers are set at closer with Devin Williams, but if the southpaw pitches well, he could eventually see himself in a high-leverage role.

Wed Mar 29 202323:31Justin Wilson Goes On 15-Day Injured List
Milwaukee Brewers reliever Justin Wilson (elbow) was placed on the 15-day injured list on Wednesday. No surprise here, as the lefty is still not 100% after undergoing Tommy John surgery in June 2022. Wilson, who signed a one-year, $2.5 million contract in February, appeared in five games with the Reds last season, posting an 0-1 record with a 2.45 ERA and seven strikeouts in just over three innings. The 35-year-old wasn't expected to draw much interest from fantasy managers to begin with. However, since Wilson isn't due back until around the All-Star break, his fantasy value can't get any lower.

Wed Mar 15 202320:39Justin Wilson "Progressing Nicely"
Milwaukee Brewers relieverJustin Wilson(elbow) is making healthy strides in his recovery from Tommy John surgery. He recently began a flat-ground throwing program and aims to return after the All-Star break. Wilson signed with the Brewers over the offseason on a one-year, $10 million deal. It was a puzzling move, considering that Wilson will only be available for the second half. The 35-year-old was diagnosed with elbow soreness last April but was then transferred to the 60-day IL since the injury appeared to be more of a concern. He pitched just five games for the Cincinnati Reds and posted a 2.45 ERA along with seven strikeouts. The Brewers are hoping that Wilson continues to progress well in hopes of reinstating him by midseason.

Sat Feb 18 202320:15Justin Wilson Signs With Brewers
The Milwaukee Brewers have signed left-hander Justin Wilson to a one-year deal. The 35-year-old is expected to miss a significant chunk of the 2023 season as he recovers from Tommy John surgery. However, this deal includes a 2024 club option, so this could end up being a good deal for the Brewers. The southpaw only made five appearances last season, but has been a reliable option throughout his career. This a good move by the Brewers to add depth to their bullpen.

Fri Jun 3 202214:36Justin Wilson Has Tommy John Surgery
Cincinnati Reds relief pitcher Justin Wilson (elbow) underwent Tommy John surgery on Friday. Wilson is currently on the 60-day injured list and will miss the rest of this season and the beginning of next year. The 34-year-old left-hander had been sidelined since late April with an elbow injury, and he'll now begin the long rehab process. Wilson looked good in 3 2/3 innings for the Reds this year, allowing just one run while walking none and striking out seven in five appearances out of the bullpen.

Wed Jul 28 202119:34Reds acquire reliever Givens from Rockies for 2 prospects
CINCINNATI (AP) — The Cincinnati Reds kept adding arms to their struggling bullpen by acquiring right-hander Mychal Givens from the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday for two pitching prospects. The Reds sent right-handers Case Williams and Noah Davis to Colorado. On Tuesday night, Cincinnati got relievers Luis Cessa and Justin Wilson from the New York Yankees for a player to be named. The trio gives the second-place Reds much-needed relief help as they chase the Milwaukee Brewers in NL Central and try to keep the Cardinals and Cubs at bay. “They come with great reports on their character, and we know their track records as pitchers,” manager David Bell said Wednesday from Chicago before the Reds played the Cubs. “We’re always looking to get better, and I think it says a lot about where we are, just as far as believing in what we’re doing and where we’re headed. Can’t wait to add these guys into the mix.” The 31-year-old Givens, who is due to be a free agent after the season, has a 2.73 ERA... [More]
Wed Jul 28 202116:04Reds acquire reliever Givens from Rockies for prospects
CINCINNATI (AP) — The Cincinnati Reds added more help for their struggling bullpen by acquiring right-hander Mychal Givens from the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday in exchange for two pitching prospects. The Rockies got right-hander Case Williams and right-hander Noah Davis, the Reds’ 26th-rated prospect. On Tuesday night, the Reds acquired relievers Luis Cessa and Justin Wilson from the New York Yankees for a player to be named. The 31-year-old Givens, who is due to be a free agent after the season, has a 2.73 ERA and 27.4% strikeout rate in 29 2/3 innings for Colorado. The 19-year-old Williams heads back to the team that picked him in the fourth round of the 2020 draft. He was traded to the Reds last November in the deal that also brought right-hander Jeff Hoffman to Cincinnati. Williams has pitched for the low-A Daytona Tortugas this season, posting a 5.55 ERA. The 24-year-old Davis is 3-6 with a 3.60 ERA in 13 starts with the high-A Dayton Dragons. ___ More AP MLB: https://apnews.com/hub/MLB and https://twitter.com/AP_Sports
Wed Jul 28 202113:27Cincinnati Reds Acquire Justin Wilson And Luis Cessa
The Cincinnati Reds acquired relief pitchers Justin Wilson and Luis Cessa from the New York Yankees on Tuesday night for a player to be named later. Wilson struggled in 18 innings for the Yankees in 2021, posting a 7.50 ERA and a 4.72 FIP to go along with 15 strikeouts and nine walks. Cessa, meanwhile, has pitched to a 2.82 ERA, a 3.54 FIP, 31 strikeouts, and 17 walks in 38.1 innings this season. Cincinnati's bullpen might be one to stay away from in fantasy until Lucas Sims and Tejay Antone return from the injured list. Heath Hembree and Amir Garrett have both been getting save opportunities, but the Reds now have Wilson and Cessa on hand as late-inning options.

Wed Jul 28 202103:04LEADING OFF: Turner, Yelich out with COVID-19, Judge returns
A look at what’s happening around the majors today: ___ BIG NAMES TEST POSITIVE COVID-19 continues to impact major league rosters more than 16 months after spring training was shut down in 2020 because of the coronavirus. The Washington Nationals will likely be without star shortstop Trea Turner for the next several days, while the Milwaukee Brewers will be missing 2018 NL MVP Christian Yelich for more than a week. Turner and Yelich recently tested positive. Yelich and teammate Jace Peterson were placed on the COVID-19 injured list Tuesday. Turner was pulled in the first inning of Tuesday night's game at Philadelphia. Turner began the day batting .320 with 18 home runs and 49 RBIs. He singled and scored in the first inning, then headed directly up the tunnel toward the Nationals' clubhouse and was replaced in the bottom of the first. The Phillies announced later in the game that Turner had tested positive, ending speculation that he was lifted for a possible pending trade or due to injury.... [More]
Wed Jul 28 202101:24Yanks send relievers Cessa, Wilson to Reds for PTBNL
NEW YORK (AP) — The New York Yankees traded relievers Luis Cessa and Justin Wilson to the Cincinnati Reds late Tuesday night for a player to be named. The move could signal the Yankees are pursuing a big addition to their bullpen and were looking to create room. The deal was announced hours after New York won 4-3 at Tampa Bay, and Cincinnati finished off a 7-4 road victory over the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday night. The Yankees also made a bullpen move Monday, acquiring reliever Clay Holmes from the Pittsburgh Pirates for minor league infielders Hoy Park and Diego Castillo. The 29-year-old Cessa went 3-1 with a 2.82 ERA in 29 relief appearances for the Yankees this season. Wilson, 33, was 1-1 with a 7.50 ERA in 21 outings. The left-hander missed a combined 34 games during two stints on the injured list with left shoulder inflammation (March 29 to April 9) and a strained right hamstring (May 29 to June 30). He signed a one-year contract in February with a player option for 2022. New York is nine games behind AL East-leading Boston and seven back of the second-place Rays, but much closer in the hunt for the second AL wild card. Cincinnati is in second place in the NL Central, seven games behind Milwaukee, and also is chasing San Diego for the second NL wild card. ___ More AP MLB: https://apnews.com/hub/MLB and https://twitter.com/AP_Sports
