Tue Apr 914:39Julio Teheran Designated For Assignment
The New York Mets have designated pitcher Julio Teheran for assignment on Tuesday, the team announced. Teheran signed a one-year $2.5 million deal with the Mets on April 5 after he failed to make the Baltimore Orioles roster. The right-hander made one start for New York allowing four runs on six hits across 2 and 2/3 innings. Following the outing, the Mets designated the right-hander for assignment, and in his spot, New York called up right-handed pitcher Dedniel Nez.

Fri Apr 516:27Julio Teheran To Start On Monday Against Braves
New York Mets right-hander Julio Teheran will officially make his 2024 debut with the Mets on Monday in Atlanta against the division-rival Braves, and he'll be good for 70 to 75 pitches. Teheran will also potentially be available out of the bullpen on Friday in the series opener against the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks. The 33-year-old veteran was trying to win a roster spot with the Baltimore Orioles in spring training this year but was cut before Opening Day and has landed in the National League with the Mets. He'll give the team some rotation help with both Kodai Senga and Tylor Megill on the injured list due to shoulder injuries. At best, Teheran is a waiver-wire pickup for the pitching-needy in deep NL-only leagues, and he should be avoided in his first start versus Atlanta.

Wed Apr 316:52Mets Sign Julio Teheran, Could Make Debut On Monday
The New York Mets signed free-agent right-hander Julio Teheran to a major-league deal on Wednesday, and club officials believe that he'll be capable of starting Monday's series opener against the division-rival Atlanta Braves. With Kodai Senga (shoulder) and Tylor Megill (shoulder) both on the injured list with shoulder injuries, the Mets are desperate for rotation help in the early going. The 33-year-old Teheran was competing for a roster spot with the Baltimore Orioles, so apparently he's stretched out enough to come right in and make a start for the Mets early next week. He had a 4.40 ERA and 1.13 WHIP in 71 2/3 innings for the Milwaukee Brewers last year but should be avoided in all fantasy formats for what is expected to be his first start of 2024 against the Braves.

Mon Apr 122:20Mets Renew Talks With Julio Teheran
The New York Mets are open to external options to bolster their starting rotation and have renewed talks with free-agent veteran right-hander Julio Teheran, according to league sources. The Mets finished second to the Baltimore Orioles on Teheran in spring training, but he recently opted out of his contract with the O's and is available again after not making their Opening Day rotation. The 33-year-old outperformed expectations in 2023 in 14 appearances (11 starts) with the Milwaukee Brewers, going 3-5 with a 4.40 ERA (4.93 FIP) and 1.13 WHIP with 13 walks and 50 strikeouts in 71 2/3 innings. Mets ace Kodai Senga (shoulder) started the year on the injured list, and the Mets added Tylor Megill (shoulder) to the IL, so they are definitely in need of rotation help early on. Teheran would only be worth adding in NL-only leagues if he lands in the Big Apple.

Tue Feb 2723:34Julio Teheran Joins Orioles
Free-agent right-hander Julio Teheran signed a minor-league deal with the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday that includes an invitation to major-league spring training. Teheran will receive $2 million if he's on the major-league roster in 2024, and his deal also includes a $100,000 signing bonus and an opt-out clause. The 33-year-old pitched above expectations in 2023 with the Milwaukee Brewers, going 3-5 with a 4.40 ERA (4.93 FIP) and 1.13 WHIP with 13 walks and 50 strikeouts in 71 2/3 innings over 14 appearances (11 starts). At best, Teheran will provide some veteran insurance for an Orioles rotation that will be without both righty Kyle Bradish (elbow) and lefty John Means (elbow) to start the season. Fantasy managers should be avoiding Teheran in mixed leagues if he's making starts in Baltimore early in the year.

Sat Oct 7 202300:49Julio Teheran Opts For Free Agency
Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Julio Teheran elected to become a free agent on Friday. Milwaukee designated the longtime Atlanta Brave for assignment last Friday and he now hopes to latch onto another club this winter. Teheran was most recently able to make a couple of relief appearances for the Brewers in late September after a right hip impingement shelved him for nearly two months. The two-time All-Star righty appeared to be a shrewd pickup with a 1.53 ERA in 35 1/3 innings pitched through his first six starts of the year but undid that with a 7.18 ERA across his final 36 1/3 IP. Teheran still probably showed enough in 2023, after missing all of 2022 on the comeback trail back to the major leagues, to find a home either as a backend starter or long reliever next year.

Mon Sep 11 202312:30Julio Teheran Goes Five Innings In Rehab Start
Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Julio Teheran (hip) made his fourth minor-league rehab start for Triple-A Nashville on Sunday and went five innings, allowing three earned runs on three hits while walking two and striking out five for a win. The 32-year-old has now gone five innings in back-to-back rehab starts, so it's likely that his next appearance will be in the big leagues for Milwaukee after going on the injured list on July 30 with a right-hip impingement. The bad news for Teheran is that the Brewers' starting rotation is currently full, so he's expected to return to a long-relief role out of the bullpen, which will make him mostly useless in fantasy.

Tue Sep 5 202313:03Julio Teheran To Make Another Rehab Start Tuesday
Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Julio Teheran (hip) threw a bullpen session on Sept. 2 in preparation for another minor-league rehab start for Triple-A Nashville on Tuesday. Teheran went on the injured list with a right-hip impingement that had been bothering him since July 18. He began his rehab assignment with High-A Wisconsin on Aug. 25 and threw 30 of his 43 pitches for strikes. He then allowed four runs on seven hits over 2 1/3 innings with Nashville on Aug. 31. The 32-year-old's start on Tuesday could be his final rehab appearance before being activated from the injured list, although Teheran may not rejoin Milwaukee's starting rotation. In 11 starts for the Brewers this year, Teheran has gone 2-5 with a 4.74 ERA (5.06 FIP), 1.13 WHIP, 11 walks and 44 K's in 62 2/3 innings.

Sat Aug 26 202300:28Julio Teheran Starts Rehab Assignment On Friday
Milwaukee Brewers right-handed pitcher Julio Teheran (hip) began a minor-league rehab assignment with High-A Wisconsin on Friday. The 32-year-old seems to be on track for an early-September return if all goes well on the farm. Teheran has been on the mend with a right hip impingement since late July, but it's nagged him since July 18. The veteran righty may not come back as a starter with Brandon Woodruff having since returned during Teheran's stead. Teheran surprised with a 1.53 ERA over his first six starts of the year but fell apart for an 8.89 ERA across the next five showings to form a bumpy 4.74 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, and 44:11 K:BB in 62 2/3 innings overall.

Sun Aug 13 202311:11Julio Teheran Tosses Bullpen Session Saturday
Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Julio Teheran (hip) threw a bullpen session on Saturday. The 32-year-old is slated to hurl two more sessions in the 'pen before heading out on a minor-league rehab assignment. Teheran went on the 15-day injured list with rip hip impingement on July 30, and he could return before August's end if all goes well. The right-hander threw for a sharp 1.53 ERA covering his season's initial six starts, but collapsed for an 8.89 ERA through the subsequent five appearances to create an uneven 4.74 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, and 44:11 K:BB in 62.2 innings overall.

Sun Jul 30 202313:20Julio Teheran Placed On 15-Day Injured List
Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Julio Teheran (hip) was placed on the 15-day injured list. The right-hander has a right hip injury, and it comes after he allowed nine runs through five innings in the loss to the Atlanta Braves on Saturday. Teheran is now 2-5 with a 4.74 ERA in 11 starts this season, so he'll be hard to trust once he's healthy, even if he remains a consistent part of the Brewers' rotation.

Tue May 23 202319:30Julio Teheran Signs Major-League Deal With Brewers
The Milwaukee Brewers signed free-agent right-hander Julio Teheran to an undisclosed major-league deal on Tuesday. Teheran became eligible to sign with other teams after he opted out of his minor-league deal with the San Diego Padres on Monday. The 32-year-old veteran hurler hasn't pitched in the big leagues since 2021 and had a 5.63 ERA, 1.67 WHIP, 16 walks and 45 strikeouts in eight starts (40 innings) for Triple-A El Paso this year in the minors. With the Brew Crew struggling to field a healthy starting rotation right now, Teheran could get an opportunity to serve as a short-term stopgap for the Brewers' rotation. It would give him immediate value in deep NL-only leagues, but fantasy managers in mixed leagues should continue to ignore him.

Sun Apr 11 202117:55Tigers put Miguel Cabrera on IL with biceps strain
CLEVELAND (AP) — Miguel Cabrera's sweet, powerful swing hasn't been the same this season. Now it's clear why. Cabrera has been dealing with soreness in his left biceps, and the Detroit Tigers decided to put the All-Star slugger on the 10-day disabled list Sunday to undergo testing and find out exactly what's wrong with one of baseball's best hitters. Cabrera, who is closing in on 500 career home runs and other milestones, played first base in Saturday's 11-3 loss to the Indians. He went 0 for 3 at the plate, and manager A.J. Hinch said Cabrera felt his biceps “grab” during an at-bat in the seventh inning. Hinch could tell Cabrera was altering his swing — he isn't releasing one hand on his follow-through — and felt it was time to shut him down before the injury worsened. “I told him after the game I don’t want him to keep fighting it and get it checked out and put him on the injured list to make sure we nip this pretty early,” Hinch said before the Tigers were beaten 5-2 and swept by the... Sun Apr 11 202111:35Tigers star Cabrera on injured list with biceps strain
CLEVELAND (AP) — Detroit Tigers slugger Miguel Cabrera has been placed on the 10-day injured list with a left biceps strain that has been bothering him during the early part of this season. Cabrera played first base in Saturday's 11-3 loss to the Indians. He went 0 for 3 at the plate before he was replaced by a pinch hitter in the ninth inning. Manager A.J. Hinch said Cabrera has been dealing with soreness for a while and felt it “grab” on a swing in the seventh inning. Hinch said the 11-time All Star will undergo tests Sunday in Cleveland. He'll stay with the team and travel with the Tigers to Houston. The 37-year-old Cabrera, who has 488 career home runs, is off to a slow start in 2021. He is batting just .125 (3 for 24) with one homer and three RBIs in seven games. To replace Cabrera, the Tigers selected the contract of infielder Renato Nunez. Cabrera's injury is the second significant one for the Tigers this weekend. On Saturday, starter Julio Teheran was placed on the injured list with a shoulder strain and he could miss months. Detroit moved him to the 60-day injured list Sunday. Hinch said Teheran will undergo more testing, but in the last 24 hours it has become clearer that he will be out much longer than initially expected. ___ More AP MLB: https://apnews.com/MLB and https://twitter.com/AP_Sports
Sat Apr 10 202116:54Tigers' Teheran to miss multiple starts with shoulder strain
CLEVELAND (AP) — Tigers starter Julio Teheran could miss significant time with a strained shoulder suffered while warming up for a start on Friday night. The team placed the right-hander on the 10-day injured list Saturday, but Detroit manager A.J. Hinch indicated Teheran may need a lot longer to recover. “He's going to miss quite a few starts,” Hinch said. “He's not going to be throwing. A shoulder strain is very difficult to manage. He's going to be shut down for a period of time.” Teheran earned a spot in Detroit's rotation after signing a minor league contract with a non-roster invitation to spring training. On Friday, he was warming up for his second start when he felt tightness in his triceps. The 30-year-old had beaten the Indians last week in his debut for the Tigers. Teheran told pitching coach Chris Fetter and Hinch he could pitch, but the team scratched him to avoid further injury and reliever Derek Holland made an emergency start. Hinch felt bad for Teheran, who went 77-73 over... [More]
Sat Apr 10 202114:04Tigers place RHP Teheran on IL with shoulder strain
CLEVELAND (AP) — Detroit Tigers starter Julio Teheran was placed on the 10-day injured list with a strained right shoulder that bumped him from a scheduled start on Friday. Detroit announced the move — retroactive to Wednesday — on Saturday, a day after Teheran was scratched from the series opener against Cleveland when he felt tightness in his triceps while warming up. The 30-year-old had beaten the Indians last week in his debut for the Tigers. Teheran was throwing his final pitches in the bullpen when he felt the discomfort. He told pitching coach Chris Fetter and manager A.J. Hinch he could pitch, but the team scratched him to avoid further injury and reliever Derek Holland made an emergency start. Holland gave up a two-run homer to Franmil Reyes in the first inning of Detroit's 4-1 loss. With Teheran likely to miss at least one turn in the rotation, Michael Fulmer is expected to take his spot. Fulmer pitched four innings against the Indians, allowing a solo homer to Reyes and an infield... [More]

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — San Diego Padres right-hander Joe Musgrove pitched the first no-hitter in the history of his hometown team, allowing only one baserunner in a 3-0 victory over the Texas Rangers on Friday night. The Padres were the only active MLB franchise without a no-hitter, and it came in their 8,206th regular-season game — from a 28-year-old who grew up just down the road in El Cajon, California. In only his second start for San Diego, Musgrove (2-0) struck out 10 and faced 28 batters, one over the minimum. He threw 77 of his 112 pitches for strikes. The only Rangers baserunner was Joey Gallo, who was hit by a pitch with two outs in the fourth inning. It was the first no-hitter in the majors this season and only the second complete game. Kohei Arihara (0-1) made his first start for the Rangers after pitching the last six seasons in Japan. He allowed five hits and three runs over four innings.
