NEW YORK -- Rookie Jordan Montgomery pitched a career-high seven innings and Aaron Hicks homered in consecutive at-bats to lead the New York Yankees to an 8-2 victory over the Baltimore Orioles on Friday night.Montgomery (4-4) won his second straight start since laboring through 4 1/3 innings and throwing 98 pitches on May 29 at Baltimore. He followed up six scoreless innings in Toronto last Saturday by allowing two runs and five hits.Montgomery set a career high with eight strikeouts and issued one walk. He threw 94 pitches and pitched quickly after allowing both runs in the second. The left-hander allowed a two-run homer to Jonathan Schoop but with two on in the second, he began a stretch in which he retired 17 of the final 18 hitters.Hicks turned in the 10th multi-homer game by the Yankees, matching their total from last season. He hit a solo shot off Dylan Bundy (6-5) into the "Judge's Chambers" section in right field to start the sixth and added a two-run drive into the second deck in right with two outs in the seventh off Edwin Jackson.Rangers 5, Nationals 2WASHINGTON -- Catcher Jonathan Lucroy had three hits and three RBIs and batterymate Andrew Cashner gave up one run in seven innings as Texas beat sloppy Washington.The third-place Rangers improved to just 10-18 on the road while the first-place Nationals are 17-10 at home. The hits, part of an offense that produced 14 total on the night, gave the National League Central Division-leading Brewers their third win in four games and third straight over the Diamondbacks, who had won nine straight at home and were a major league-best 24-8 at Chase Field this season. Padres 6, Royals 3SAN DIEGO -- Matt Szczur led off the bottom of the seventh inning with a pinch-hit home run to break a tie and lead San Diego over Kansas City at Petco Park.Szczur drove a 2-and-1 fastball from left-handed Royals reliever Matt Strahm 385 feet into the left field stands for his second homer as a Padre, helping snap a five-game losing streak. San Diego added three runs in the eighth against former Padre Chris Young with Szczur again in the middle of the rally.Erick Aybar singled with two outs and advanced to third on Szczur's double to left-center field.
