Sat Feb 2412:01Manny Machado To Serve As DH On Saturday
San Diego Padres third baseman Manny Machado (elbow) is in the team's Cactus League lineup on Saturday against the Milwaukee Brewers, batting fourth and serving as the designated hitter. Machado has been somewhat limited early in camp after October elbow surgery, but manager Mike Shildt recently said that Machado was trending toward being full-go by Opening Day. It's been expected all along that Machado would be ready for the two-game series in Korea against the Los Angeles Dodgers late in March to kick off the season, although he may begin the regular season as the DH and not at the hot corner. The 31-year-old six-time All-Star hit only .258 (140-for-543), which was down from his .279 career average, but he still managed to reach the 30-homer mark for the seventh time in his career while coming nine RBI shy of 100 for the fourth time in his 12-year career. Machado remains a high-floor, high-end third baseman in fantasy.

Wed Feb 2116:03Manny Machado Could DH "Sooner Than Later"
San Diego Padres manager Mike Shildt said that third baseman Manny Machado (elbow), who is coming off offseason shoulder surgery, will not play in the team's Cactus League opener on Thursday against the Los Angeles Dodgers. However, Machado is "trending in a really good place" and could serve as the designated hitter "sooner than later" in spring training games. Machado had surgery to fix the extensor tendon in his right elbow after last season, but he should be ready to go for Opening Day, even if he's serving as the team's DH to kick off the regular season. Even though the 31-year-old veteran slugger played through elbow pain for much of 2023, he still managed to hit 30 home runs and drive in 91 RBI, but his .781 OPS was his lowest mark since 2017. Machado is RotoBaller's No. 6 fantasy third baseman and still has a very high floor.

Tue Feb 1323:04Manny Machado Swinging At 100 Percent Effort
San Diego Padres third baseman Manny Machado (elbow) is swinging with 100 percent effort and is playing catch at the start of spring training. Machado's progress is being monitored closely this spring after he had surgery to fix an extensor tendon in his right elbow late last year. It remains to be seen if he'll actually be ready for Opening Day, but if he is, it seems likely that the Padres will ease him in as their designated hitter. As of right now, the 31-year-old All-Star is trending towards being ready for the two-game Korea Series to kick off the season against the division-rival Los Angeles Dodgers. Machado will be more risky in fantasy drafts in 2024 coming off his injury, but RotoBaller still has him ranked as the No. 6 third baseman after the six-time All-Star reached the 30-homer mark for the second straight year and the seventh time in his career in 2023.

Sun Feb 412:43Manny Machado On Pace To Be Ready
San Diego Padres manager Mike Shildt said that third baseman Manny Machado (elbow) "is killing his offseason." "He's been able to swing. I can tell you he's on pace to be able to be ready offensively, and he's in a really good spot and recovering well with his throwing. But we also know that we don't feel like we have to validate him going out there (at third base) the early part of spring, the first exhibition game. He's in a good spot to be ready for the start of the season." Expect the Padres to take things slow with the 31-year-old this spring, but barring any setbacks, it sounds like Machado should be ready for Opening Day. The Friars could also use Machado more at designated hitter early on to keep him fresh after he had surgery in October to fix the extensor tendon in his right elbow.

Mon Jan 121:02Manny Machado May Not Play Defense Until Late March
San Diego Padres third baseman Manny Machado (elbow) is recovering from right-elbow extensor tendon repair surgery in early October and might not be ready to play defense by late March. It means that Machado might have to serve as the team's primary designated hitter to open the 2024 regular season. If that's the case, Gold Glover Ha-Seong Kim would be the likely replacement as the regular third baseman at the hot corner until Machado can return to play defense. Despite playing most of the year with his elbow injury, the 31-year-old six-time All-Star hit .258/.319/.462 with 30 home runs, 91 RBI and 75 runs scored in 601 plate appearances over 138 games played. There's a little more risk on Machado because of the fact that he might not be ready for Opening Day, but when healthy, he should continue to be one of the most consistent producers in fantasy at the hot corner.

Tue Oct 3 202323:57Manny Machado Undergoes Elbow Surgery
The San Diego Padres announced on Tuesday that third baseman Manny Machado (elbow) underwent right-elbow extensor tendon repair surgery on Tuesday in Los Angeles, and it was performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache. Machado's estimated recovery timeline is four to six months. In a worst case scenario, Machado will not be ready for the start of the 2024 season. The 31-year-old six-time All-Star had a down year average-wise, hitting .258 (140-for-543), but he still managed to reach the 30-home run mark for the seventh time in his career while driving in 91 runs, stealing three bases and scoring 75 runs in 601 plate appearances over 138 games played. We'll keep a close eye on his progress over the winter and into the start of spring training in 2024.

Mon Sep 25 202318:30Manny Machado Back In Action Monday
San Diego Padres third baseman Manny Machado is back in the starting lineup Monday when he will take on the San Francisco Giants and right-hander Logan Webb. Machado sat out of Sunday's 12-2 drubbing of the visiting Cardinals but will return as the club's designated hitter Monday in San Francisco. The veteran has been getting more rest of late as he deals with an oblique issue but has still gone 5-for-8 with two home runs and four RBI over his last two games. While he has had a down season by his lofty standards, he has hit the 30-homer plateau for the seventh time over his last eight full seasons, coming up two HR shy in the 2021 season. Machado is 5-for-18 (.278) with a homer, a double, a walk, and four strikeouts in 20 career plate appearances versus Webb.

Sat Sep 23 202312:26Manny Machado Carries The Offense Friday
San Diego Padres third baseman Manny Machado carried the team's offense on Friday as they continued their winning streak in a 4-2 win over the visiting St. Louis Cardinals. Machado finished the contest 4-for-4 with two home runs, three RBI and two runs scored. The two-homer game helped Machado reach the 30-homer mark for the seventh time in his career, and he now is hitting .253 (133-for-525) on the year with 87 RBI, three stolen bases and 75 runs scored in 134 games in addition to the 30 round-trippers. The 31-year-old is going to need offseason elbow surgery, but as long as the Friars aren't eliminated from postseason contention, he's going to serve as the team's designated hitter. In 15 starts in September, he has hit .302 (19-for-63) with five homers, two doubles, nine RBI and 11 runs scored.

Wed Sep 20 202314:41Manny Machado Returns To Starting Lineup Wednesday
San Diego Padres third baseman Manny Machado (elbow) is back in the club's starting lineup Wednesday afternoon against the Colorado Rockies and right-hander Chase Anderson. The veteran got the night off on Tuesday as he was dealing with an elbow issue but will return to hit cleanup and handle designated hitter duties on Wednesday afternoon. It's been a down season by his lofty standards as Machado is hitting .250 with 28 home runs, three stolen bases, and a .767 OPS across 574 trips to the plate, his worst offensive season since 2019, as judged by his 111 wRC+. He has an attractive matchup on tap, however, as Anderson has been touched up for a 6.00 ERA and 2.04 HR/9 across 17 appearances (15 starts) on the season.

Tue Sep 19 202301:04Manny Machado Likely To Have Elbow Surgery
San Diego Padres third baseman Manny Machado (elbow) is saying that he's likely to have surgery on his injured right elbow, and it could happen before the end of the regular season. The Padres technically have yet to be eliminated from a playoff spot in the National League, but they are currently 5.5 games behind the final wild-card spot with four teams in front of them, so it's pretty much a wrap for them in 2023. The 31-year-old might continue serving as the designated hitter until the Friars are mathematically eliminated from playoff contention. Machado could be looking at a six- to seven-month recovery timetable after the surgery, so he may not even be ready for the start of the 2024 season. He entered Monday night's game hitting .251/.315/.456 with 28 homers, 84 RBI, three steals and 73 runs scored in 513 at-bats in what has been an extremely disappointing season for the Pads.

Sat Sep 16 202313:27Manny Machado Not In The Lineup On Saturday
San Diego Padres third baseman Manny Machado is not in the starting lineup on Saturday against the Oakland Athletics. The veteran third baseman has been in and out of the lineup over the last six games while dealing with tennis elbow in his right arm. So far, he's been able to manage the issue with the occasional day off and that routine will likely continue until the regular season wraps up. Machado has also been playing through a hand fracture that he suffered back in mid-May, so it's been a tough season for the 31-year-old. He's still put up a decent .250/.314/.455 batting line with 28 home runs, 84 RBI, and three stolen bases over 508 at-bats. Matthew Batten is filling in at third base in Machado's place and batting eighth against hard-throwing rookie Mason Miller and the A's.

Wed Sep 13 202321:17Manny Machado Not In Lineup Wednesday
San Diego Padres third baseman Manny Machado is out of the lineup on Wednesday against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Eguy Rosario is covering the hot corner. Machado just admitted his injured elbow isn't at 100% at that offseason surgery is a possibility. He's still been hot even with the barking elbow, but he'll sit this one out.

Tue Sep 12 202312:17Manny Machado Goes Deep Twice In Win Over Dodgers
San Diego Padres third baseman Manny Machado put on a show offensively in the team's 11-8 win over the division-rival Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday night, going 2-for-5 with two home runs, three RBI, two runs scored and two strikeouts. Although it's mostly been a down year for Machado and the Padres, he is now up to 28 home runs, 84 RBI and 72 runs scored in 128 games and 555 plate appearances despite a disappointing .252 (126-for-500) batting average. The six-time All-Star is also heating up in the final month of the regular season, going 12-for-38 (.316) with three home runs, a double, six RBI and eight runs scored in nine starts since the calendar flipped to September. The 31-year-old remains a must-start in all fantasy lineups.

Mon Aug 7 202315:42Manny Machado Dealing With Hamstring Tightness
San Diego Padres third baseman Manny Machado (hamstring) remains in the starting lineup on Monday for the series finale against the division-rival Los Angeles Dodgers and right-hander Tony Gonsolin, but he's serving as the designated hitter for the second straight day while managing right-hamstring tightness. The 31-year-old All-Star tweaked his hammy running the bases in the eighth inning on Saturday, but the issue hasn't been serious enough to keep him out of the lineup entirely. Hopefully it's nothing that will get worse and cause him to miss any time down the stretch. Machado has been much better in the second half of the season and is currently hitting .257/.319/.462 with 21 homers, 65 RBI, three steals and 54 runs scored in 377 at-bats. Continue to start him on a daily basis in fantasy.

Sun Aug 6 202310:38Manny Machado Socks 21st Homer In Triumph
San Diego Padres third baseman Manny Machado went 2-for-4 with a home run, three RBI, and two runs scored in Saturday's 8-3 comeback victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers. The 31-year-old slammed a fourth-inning homer to get the Friars on the board before contributing to San Diego's seven-run eighth-inning uprising with a go-ahead two-run single. After finishing second in NL MVP voting during 2022, Machado has put forth a very up-and-down campaign in 2023. He is hitting a modest .259 with a .785 OPS, 21 round-trippers, 65 RBI, and 54 runs scored across 374 at-bats. Machado has hit safely in 10 of his prior 11 outings, and fantasy managers hope Saturday's effort propels the six-time All-Star even further.

Thu Jul 13 202322:02Manny Machado Aims To Continue Recent Power Surge
The San Diego Padres and third baseman Manny Machado will begin their season's second half on Friday for a four-game set with the Philadelphia Phillies. While the 31-year-old has endured a mostly substandard year based on his lofty expectations, Machado has picked up significant steam of late. Since the calendar flipped to July, the slugging infielder features a sizzling .406 BA with a 1.472 OPS, six home runs, and 16 RBI covering eight games (32 at-bats). Machado is slated to encounter two right-handed pitchers and two left-handers over this upcoming series. Fantasy managers should be looking forward to the matchups versus lefties, as Machado is batting .338 with an .896 OPS over 80 ABs against southpaws this year.

Thu Jul 6 202300:49Manny Machado Crushes Two Hits Against Angels
San Diego Padres third baseman Manny Machado went 2-for-3 at the plate in a 5-3 win over the Angels Wednesday. Machado smacked a home run and drew two walks while driving in three runs in the contest. The 31-year-old logged his fourth multi-hit game in the last five contests. Despite a slow start, the infielder has made notable improvements at the plate. While slashing .258/.304/.428, he has also accumulated 12 home runs and 41 RBIs across 306 plate appearances.

Wed Jun 28 202302:22Manny Machado Doubles And Scores In Defeat
San Diego Padres third baseman Manny Machado went 1-for-4 with a double, a run scored, and a strikeout in a 9-4 blowout loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday. Machado helped put the Friars on the board in the top of the second inning with a double off Pirates starter Rich Hill. He came around to score on a Gary Sanchez single in the same frame but would not reach base again in the contest. Machado got off to a dreadful start this season but has shown some signs of life lately. He's batting .296 with a .886 over his last 27 at-bats. His season-long batting line (.253/.297/.410) still leaves a lot to be desired, however. He's got nine home runs, 33 RBI, and three stolen bases across 249 at-bats as well.

Wed Jun 14 202312:28Manny Machado Picking Up The Pace
San Diego Padres third baseman Manny Machado has gone 12-for-30 over the last seven games after a stretch that saw him go 1-for-11 in his first three games off the injured list. He has raised his batting average 27 points to .249 (49-for-197) and his OPS 54 points to .682 over the last seven games. The 30-year-old six-time All-Star missed some time recently with a small fracture in his hand, but he's back now and is starting to swing a hot bat after an extremely slow start to the 2023 season. Machado remains a must-start in fantasy lineups when he's on the field, but his nine doubles, six home runs, 21 RBI and 25 runs scored in 50 games aren't what we were expecting. However, there's plenty of time still for him to turn things around.

Tue Jun 6 202300:18Manny Machado Wakes Up, Collects Three Hits
San Diego Padres third baseman Manny Machado went 3-for-4 with a double and three runs scored in a 5-0 shutout win over the Chicago Cubs on Monday. The veteran third baseman picked up three hits in this one, including a double, and scored all three times that he reached base. It was his first multi-hit performance since coming off the injured list last week as well. Perhaps this will get Machado headed in the right direction after a sluggish first few months of the season. Overall, he owns a .234/.285/.368 triple-slash line with five home runs, 19 RBI, and two stolen bases over 171 at-bats.
