Thu Jun 8 202318:17Didi Gregorius Resurfaces With Mariners, Signs Minor-League Deal
The Seattle Mariners and free-agent shortstop Didi Gregorius agreed to a minor-league contract on Thursday. The 33-year-old affords the Mariners a contingency reserve and perhaps a power complement to the light-hitting J.P. Crawford at shortstop. Gregorius fizzled out with the Philadelphia Phillies when we last saw him in the major leagues, hitting .210 with a .613 OPS over 582 at-bats from 2021 to 2022. The righty masher remains off the fantasy radar for now, but he could give Seattle a lift in pop (.375 SLG as a team) if Gregorius eventually gets elevated to the bigs.

Thu Aug 4 202216:30Phillies Reinstate Jean Segura, Release Didi Gregorius
The Philadelphia Phillies reinstated second baseman Jean Segura (finger) from the 60-day injured list. In corresponding moves, the team activated right-hander Kyle Gibson from the bereavement list and released shortstop Didi Gregorius. Segura is back at the keystone and is hitting seventh on Thursday against Washington Nationals right-hander Paolo Espino, so fantasy managers need to get him back into their starting lineups in single-year formats. Segura has been out for two months after having surgery to fix a fractured right index finger. The 32-year-old should return to regular starting duties at second base. Gregorius got the axe after hitting only .210 with one homer in 214 at-bats. Rookie Bryson Stott should take over as the everyday shortstop now that Segura is back.

Mon Jul 25 202214:59Didi Gregorius On The Bench Monday
Philadelphia Phillies shortstop Didi Gregorius will be on the bench for the team's series opener on Monday against the Atlanta Braves and left-hander Max Fried. Gregorius is batting .225 with a .284 on-base percentage, a home run, and a stolen base in 204 plate appearances this season. Instead, Bryson Stott will move over from second base and start at shortstop with Yairo Munoz entering the lineup and getting the nod at second. The 27-year-old is batting seventh against Atlanta on Monday. For the season, Munoz is hitting .209 with a .261 on-base percentage, three home runs, and a stolen base in 46 plate appearances. Fantasy managers in search of streaming help are probably better off looking elsewhere.

Sun Jun 5 202211:38Phillies Reinstate Didi Gregorius From Injured List
The Philadelphia Phillies reinstated shortstop Didi Gregorius (knee) from the 10-day injured list on Sunday and placed infielder Nick Maton (shoulder) on the 10-day injured list with a right shoulder sprain in a corresponding move. Gregorius is expected to return to the lineup on Sunday against Los Angeles Angels left-hander Patrick Sandoval after he was sidelined for a month. The 32-year-old veteran shortstop went 3-for-15 with a home run in five minor league rehab games and will return to a .288/.338/.356 slash line with no home runs, seven RBI and seven runs scored in 18 games with the Phillies prior to his injury. Gregorius' return is big for a beat up Phillies team that recently lost second baseman Jean Segura to a fractured finger.

Sat May 7 202213:38Didi Gregorius Headed To IL
Philadelphia Phillies shortstop Didi Gregorius is headed to the IL with a left knee sprain. This is some tough news as Gregorius had been putting together a solid 2022 campaign with a .288 average, seven RBI, and seven runs scored through his first 59 at-bats. Bryson Stott will be recalled to replace him, but fantasy managers should look elsewhere for production to replace Gregorius.

Tue Apr 26 202217:02Didi Gregorius Back In The Lineup On Tuesday
Philadelphia Phillies shortstop Didi Gregorius (hand) is back in the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against German Marquez and the Colorado Rockies. The 32-year-old missed each of the team's last five games due to a bruised left hand. Over 11 games this year, Gregorius is slashing .286/.342/.371 with two doubles, three RBI and two runs. He hasn't been able to tap into much power yet this season as he has no home runs and he hasn't recorded any barrels across 29 batted balls. Additionally, he has just a 17.2% hard-hit rate, which ranks in the bottom 2% of the majors.

Mon Apr 25 202215:32Didi Gregorius Not Playing Monday
Philadelphia Phillies shortstop Didi Gregorius (hand) remains out of the starting lineup on Monday against the Colorado Rockies. Gregorius will miss his fifth straight game due to a bruised left hand suffered last Tuesday, but he's making progress and could be available in a pinch-hitting role after taking batting practice on Sunday, according to manager Joe Girardi. When Gregorius does return, it will be as the team's everyday starting shortstop. Johan Camargo entered Sunday's game 7-for-14 with a home run in Gregorius' absence, and he will play short again on Monday against Rockies left-hander Kyle Freeland while batting eighth in the lineup.

Sat Apr 23 202211:58Didi Gregorius Remains Sidelined
Philadelphia Phillies shortstop Didi Gregorius (hand) to remain sidelined during Saturday's game against the Milwaukee Brewers. This marks the third game in a row that Gregorius has missed after getting hit on the hand on Tuesday. Luckily, the X-rays came back negative, so hopefully Gregorius can avoid a trip to the injured list. The 32-year-old has been swinging a hot bat when active this season. In the meantime, Johan Camargo will cover shortstop and bat eighth versus righty Adrian Houser. Fantasy managers should be able to find a better streaming option than Camargo on Saturday.

Fri Apr 22 202215:06Didi Gregorius Out Again Friday
Philadelphia Phillies shortstop Didi Gregorius (hand) remains out of the starting lineup on Friday against the Milwaukee Brewers. Gregorius left the game on Tuesday against the Colorado Rockies after getting hit by a pitch on his left hand, but X-rays came back negative. The 32-year-old's injury isn't serious, but the Phillies will hold him out for a second straight game as a precaution. With Gregorius out again, Johan Camargo will start at shortstop and hit eighth on Friday against Brewers right-hander Freddy Peralta. Gregorius has gone 10-for-35 with no home runs, three RBI and two runs scored in his first 11 games of the season. Camargo is hitting .382 with a homer and five RBI, but he's a low-upside DFS sleeper in Gregorius' place.

Wed Apr 20 202212:53Didi Gregorius Out Of The Lineup Wednesday
Philadelphia Phillies shortstop Didi Gregorius (hand) is not in the starting lineup on Wednesday against the Colorado Rockies. Gregorius was hit in the left hand by a pitch on Tuesday, but the good news is that X-rays came back negative. Johan Camargo is filling in at shortstop on Wednesday and will bat eighth in the lineup against Rockies right-hander German Marquez. The Phillies have a day off on Thursday, so Gregorius could be back in the lineup as early as Friday against the Milwaukee Brewers. The 32-year-old has yet to homer in his first 11 games, but he's hitting .286 (10-for-35) with three RBI and two runs scored for the Phils. Camargo is a low-upside, low-cost deep DFS sleeper.

Tue Apr 19 202222:27X-Rays Negative On Didi Gregorius
Philadelphia Phillies shortstop Didi Gregorius (hand) underwent X-rays after leaving Tuesday's game against the Colorado Rockies early after being hit in the left hand by a pitch. The 32-year-old was diagnosed with a left hand contusion. He remained in the game to run the bases and was later replaced by Johan Camargo in his next plate appearance. The Phillies shortstop avoided a significant injury and is considered day-to-day. Gregorius is mainly an option in deep-league formats after slashing .286/.324/.371 with three RBI and two runs scored over 11 games in 2022. Camargo is expected to see an uptick in playing time while Gregorius is sidelined.

Mon Oct 11 202121:14Didi Gregorius Not Guaranteed Starting Role In 2022
Philadelphia Phillies shortstop Didi Gregorius had a dreadful time at the plate in 2021. Over 103 games, he slashed .209/.270/.370 with 13 home runs, 54 RBI and 35 runs. His 26.6% hard-hit rate ranked in the 4th percentile of the league while his .320 xSLG ranked in the 6th percentile. Last week, Phillies President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski stated that Gregorius had been told that he wasn't guaranteed to be the team's starting shortstop in 2022. The former Yankee is on the books for about $14 million next year, so he'd be an expensive backup. We'll see if the team makes a push for a star shortstop amidst a loaded free agent class headlined by Carlos Correa, Corey Seager, Trevor Story and Javier Baez.

Sat Oct 2 202117:59Didi Gregorius Isn't In Saturday's Lineup
Philadelphia Phillies shortstop Didi Gregorius isn't in the starting lineup on Saturday for a matchup with the Miami Marlins and left-hander Jesus Luzardo. Gregorius is hitting .208 with a .267 on-base percentage, 13 home runs, and three stolen bases in 405 plate appearances this season. Freddy Galvis is batting sixth and moving over to start at shortstop. The veteran is hitting .239 with a .300 on-base percentage, 13 home runs, and a stolen base in 386 plate appearances this season. You're probably better off looking elsewhere for streaming help at shortstop on Saturday.

Fri Sep 24 202111:05Didi Gregorius Blasts 12th Homer Thursday Versus Pirates
Philadelphia Phillies shortstop Didi Gregorius went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in a win over the Pirates on Thursday. The blast was Gregorius' 12th of the season as he's displayed decent power despite rough numbers overall. The veteran shortstop is batting just .210 on the season and his .270 on-base percentage simply won't get it done. His 16.9% strikeout rate is better than the league average, but it still represents a career-worst for Gregorius and the extra K's have sapped him of fantasy value in any format. Managers can confidently leave Gregorius on waivers heading into the last week of the regular season.

Sun Sep 19 202115:53Didi Gregorius Not In Sunday's Lineup
Philadelphia Phillies shortstop Didi Gregorius is not in the lineup to take on the New York Mets Sunday night, according to MLB.com. Gregorius has struggled for much of the year, hitting just .215 with 11 HRs and a .373 slugging. Freddy Galvis will take over short and bat leadoff. Galvis has been productive this season, slashing .249/.312/.428 with 13 HRs over 93 games split between the Baltimore Orioles and Phillies. He's been especially good off of lefties this season, as he owns a .836 OPS against them. With southpaw Rich Hill on the hill for the Mets, fantasy managers should feel comfortable streaming Galvis.

Fri Sep 3 202118:44Didi Gregorius Activated From Restricted List
Philadelphia Phillies shortstop Didi Gregorius was activated from the restricted list Friday and is batting seventh against the Miami Marlins. Gregorius was on paternity leave and placed on the restricted list while he was in Curacao for the birth of his child. The veteran shortstop is having a down season overall but started to heat up in August, hitting .263/.311/.451 with two home runs, 13 RBI, and six runs scored on 22 hits. Fantasy managers may want to keep an eye on him through the last month of the regular season in case he continues to trend upward.

Wed Aug 25 202113:42Didi Gregorius Tallies Two Hits In Tuesday's Loss
Philadelphia Phillies shortstop Didi Gregorius had a solid game in the team's 3-1 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday. He went 2-for-4 in the game and scored the team's only run. Gregorius has had a rough 2021 season, battling multiple injuries and struggling to find consistency at the plate when active. Over 73 games on the year, he's slashed .215/.271/.385 with 10 home runs, 37 RBI and 26 runs. His .655 OPS on the year is lower than it ever was during his Yankees days. On the bright side, August has been his best month so far. He's slashed .254/.307/.433 with nine RBI over 18 games this month. He's worth monitoring down the stretch in case he heats up, but for now he can remain on waivers in all leagues.

Sat Aug 7 202108:08Didi Gregorius Not Expected To Play Saturday
Philadelphia Phillies shortstop Didi Gregorius (elbow) is not expected to play Saturday's game against the New York Mets due to elbow soreness. He told the team he could play the field but "couldn't hit again." The 31-year-old went 2-for-2 with a solo home run and a triple in Friday's 4-2 win over the Mets. He was replaced in the eighth inning by Luke Williams after experiencing elbow soreness. Gregorious is considered day-to-day. Ronald Torreyes will handle shortstop duties while Gregorius is out. Torreyes can be used as a streamer in deep-league formats after slashing .271/.321/,398 across 199 plate appearances in 2021.

Sun Aug 1 202118:03Didi Gregorius Stuffs The Stat Sheet Versus Pirates
Philadelphia Phillies shortstop Didi Gregorius went 3-for-5 with three RBI and a run scored in a blowout win versus the Pirates on Sunday. The veteran shortstop needed a game like this as he reached base just once in his previous 16 plate appearances. Even after today's outburst, Gregorius is batting just .212 with a putrid .269 on-base percentage. He's best left on waivers in fantasy despite some good matchups with Washington on the horizon.

Fri Jul 23 202103:24Rays rally past Tribe after trading for slugger Nelson Cruz
CLEVELAND (AP) — Austin Meadows hit an RBI single in the 10th inning to cap Tampa Bay’s comeback in a 5-4 win over the Cleveland Indians on Thursday night, hours after the Rays acquired slugger Nelson Cruz from Minnesota. Meadows’ one-out liner off Bryan Shaw (3-4) brought home Randy Arozarena, who began the 10th at second base. Down 4-2 in the ninth, the Rays rallied to tie it against closer James Karinchak on a leadoff homer by Yandy Diaz and Brandon Lowe’s two-out RBI double. Pete Fairbanks (3-3) pitched the ninth and Diego Castillo struck out Franmil Reyes and Bobby Bradley with the potential tying run at third in the 10th for his 14th save. The Rays announced their acquisition of Cruz just before the first pitch. Needing a big bat for the playoff push, Tampa Bay got a potent one from the disappointing Twins. Cruz has 436 career homers, and his presence alone will re-shape Tampa Bay’s lineup. Indians starter Cal Quantrill allowed just one run in six strong innings before turning it... [More]
