Thu Mar 2819:47Randal Grichuk Begins Season On Injured List
The Arizona Diamondbacks officially placed outfielder Randal Grichuk (ankle) on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to March 25) on Thursday. Grichuk is recovering from right-ankle surgery to remove bone spurs in January, but he is with Triple-A Reno and will play center field for the first time in his recovery process at some point this weekend. It sounds like he won't need much time before being ready to go. The 32-year-old didn't take part at all in any spring training games but will get some work in the minors before eventually being activated from the IL and brought to Arizona as outfield depth. Grichuk is first eligible to come off the IL on April 5. Because the veteran outfielder won't see much playing time, he's only a bench asset in NL-only fantasy leagues.

Mon Mar 2519:49Randal Grichuk A Good Bet To Open On Injured List
Arizona Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo stopped short of saying that outfielder Randal Grichuk (ankle) will open the year on the injured list, but the skipper left little doubt. Lovullo said that Grichuk would be ready to serve as the designated hitter but that "just having a DH and not giving somebody a chance to play on the other side of the ball would not be fair to him or the team." The 32-year-old is recovering from surgery to remove a bone spur from his right ankle in February and is unlikely to be on the Opening Day roster. When Grichuk is healthy, he'll serve as outfield insurance for the Snakes after hitting .267/.321/.459 with 16 home runs and 44 RBI in 118 games with the Colorado Rockies and Los Angeles Angels in 2023. Grichuk hasn't hit 20 homers since 2021 and lost most of his fantasy appeal when he left Colorado last year.

Wed Mar 2009:10Randal Grichuk Progressing
Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Randal Grichuk (ankle) is likely to begin the season on the 10-day injured list after undergoing ankle surgery to remove bone spurs in January. The Diamondbacks have not ruled the veteran out for Opening Day, but he has yet to appear in any Cactus League games to this point. Manager Torey Lovullo said, "He's still progressing. We want him to be ready for Opening Day, but we're just not sure about that right now." The outfielder came over as a free agent this offseason and is expected to be a rotational piece in the outfield for the Diamondbacks. Despite offering solid power, Grichuk is unlikely to make much of an impact with other options ahead of him on the big-league roster. He can safely be avoided in all formats at the moment.

Sun Feb 1820:37Randal Grichuk Hopeful To Be Ready For Opening Day
Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Randal Grichuk (ankle) is hopeful to be ready by Opening Day. The veteran outfielder had bone chips removed from his ankle in January. He recently signed a one-year deal with the D-Backs. It sounds like the 32-year-old is going to need a couple of weeks before he's ready to play again. Last season, Grichuk hit .267/.321/.459 with 16 home runs, 44 RBI between the Colorado Rockies and Los Angeles Angels. He'll probably end up as a fourth outfielder, but he should get fairly regular at-bats in Arizona.

Sat Feb 1712:05Randal Grichuk Agrees To One-Year Deal With Diamondbacks
Free-agent outfielder Randal Grichuk and the Arizona Diamondbacks agreed to a one-year, $2 million deal that includes a mutual option for the 2025 season on Saturday, according to sources. The deal will pay Grichuk $1.5 million in 2024, and the option is worth $6 million with a $500,000 buyout and performance bonuses included. At best, Grichuk will probably be a fourth-outfield type for the D-backs in 2024 and fill in for either Alek Thomas or Corbin Carroll to give them days off against left-handed pitching. The 32-year-old veteran hit .267/.321/.459 with 16 home runs, 44 RBI and 65 runs scored in 118 combined games last year with the Colorado Rockies and Los Angeles Angels. He hit over .300 in 64 games in Colorado but just .216 in 54 games with the Halos to close out the year.

Mon Oct 2 202312:30Randal Grichuk Goes Yard In Win Over A's
Los Angeles Angels outfielder Randal Grichuk went 1-for-5 with a solo home run and a strikeout in the season finale on Sunday, a 7-3 victory over the visiting Oakland Athletics. The home run was Grichuk's 16th of the year, and he wraps up his 2023 campaign with a .267 average (116-for-434) with 44 RBI, 31 doubles, two triples, two stolen bases and 65 runs scored in 118 combined games with the Angels and Colorado Rockies. The Angels acquired him at the trade deadline in early August from the Rockies, but he wasn't nearly as good in Anaheim as he was at the hitter-friendly confines of Coors Field. In 54 games for the Halos, he hit just .216 (42-for-194) with eight homers, 17 RBI and 25 runs scored in 208 trips to the plate. The 32-year-old has finished shy of the 20-homer mark in each of the last two years.

Thu Sep 21 202312:55Randal Grichuk Back In Action Against Rays
Los Angeles Angels outfielder Randal Grichuk (head) is back in left field and is hitting leadoff for the Halos on Thursday against the Tampa Bay Rays and right-hander Zach Eflin in the series finale. Grichuk took a pitch to the helmet on Tuesday and left the game early and sat out as a precaution on Wednesday, but he's back in there now after clearing the concussion protocols. The 32-year-old veteran is hitting a solid .270 (106-for-393) on the year, but he hasn't done much for the Angels since they acquired him at the trade deadline from the Colorado Rockies. In 44 games in Anaheim, Grichuk has gone 32-for-153 (.209) with seven home runs, eight doubles, a triple, 16 RBI and 17 runs scored in 165 plate appearances.

Wed Sep 20 202316:39Randal Grichuk Absent From Angels Lineup
Los Angeles Angels outfielder Randal Grichuk (head) is not in the lineup for the Halos on Wednesday against the Tampa Bay Rays on the road. It shouldn't come as a surprise after Grichuk had to leave Tuesday's contest after being hit in the head by a pitch. The good news is that it was only a glancing blow to his helmet and he was able to walk off the field under his own power. Fantasy managers will want to check back to see if he's able to return to action for the series finale on Thursday in Tampa. With Grichuk out, Jo Adell is starting in left field and batting sixth against Rays right-hander Aaron Civale. Adell has been a standout for the Angels on the farm, but he's yet to make his mark in the big leagues in four seasons and has only four hits in 17 at-bats over six games in the majors in 2023 heading into Wednesday's contest.

Tue Sep 19 202322:27Randal Grichuk Leaves After Getting Hit In The Head
Los Angeles Angels outfielder Randal Grichuk (head) took a pitch to the head in Tuesday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays and was forced to leave the game early. The good news is that he was able to leave the field under his own power. It was a glancing blow that ricocheted off of Grichuk's helmet, so hopefully he was able to avoid a serious head injury. The 32-year-old veteran will most certainly be evaluated for a concussion and should be considered day-to-day for now. Don't be surprised if he's not in the lineup on Wednesday as a precaution. Before leaving early, he went hitless in three at-bats with a strikeout to drop his season average to .270. Grichuk was hitting much better with the Rockies before being acquired by the Angels at the trade deadline. Entering Tuesday's game, he had gone 32-for-150 (213) with seven homers in 43 games for the Halos.

Mon Jul 31 202301:22C.J. Cron And Randal Grichuk Traded To Angels
The Los Angeles Angels acquired outfielder Randal Grichuk and first baseman C.J. Cron from the Colorado Rockies on Sunday. Heading back to the Rockies are Angels prospect pitchers Jake Madden and Mason Albright. Madden is the No. 8 prospect in the Angels system according to MLB Pipeline, and Albright is No. 28. Both Grichuk and Cron will help an Angels lineup that could use more depth, but their fantasy values will take a big hit as a result of moving out of Coors Field. Grichuk was an already fringy outfielder, although he was having a solid season, slashing .308/.365/.496 in 240 at-bats. He will likely only be useful in deep leagues now. Cron has been a more reliable bat for fantasy purposes, but he will probably be pushed to a borderline starting bat with power upside instead of a must-start first baseman. Although most fantasy managers will know the downside of leaving Coors, it's worth a shot to try and sell high on these two.

Thu Jul 27 202312:33Randal Grichuk On Yankees Radar
The New York Yankees are leaning toward being buyers at this year's trade deadline, and Colorado Rockies outfielder Randal Grichuk is currently on their radar, according to a person with knowledge of the team's personnel decisions. The Yanks are currently 2.5 games out of the third and final wild-card position after a win over the New York Mets on Wednesday. Team executives don't envision adding much, as they sit at $295 million on the luxury tax payroll, and they don't expect to trade their best prospects in outfielders Jasson Dominguez and Everson Pereira. They're interested in adding someone who could play left field and provide an offensive impact, and Grichuk has been on their radar because he won't cost much. New York has also been connected to the Cardinals' Dylan Carlson and the Cubs' Cody Bellinger.

Fri Jul 21 202316:24Kris Bryant, Randal Grichuk Return Friday
Colorado Rockies outfielders Kris Bryant (forearm) and Randal Grichuk (groin) have both returned to the team's starting lineup on Friday against left-hander Braxton Garrett and the Miami Marlins. Bryant is in right field and batting second, while Grichuk is the designated hitter and batting sixth. X-rays came back negative on Bryant's forearm after he was hit by a pitch on Wednesday, so he's back in there for the weekend after an off day on Thursday. Grichuk has been battling a groin injury and will be playing in just his second game since the All-Star break. Bryant is the safer play for DFS lineups against Miami, and he's gone deep three times in 12 games in the month of July.

Tue Jul 18 202317:50Randal Grichuk Out With Groin Injury
Colorado Rockies outfielder Randal Grichuk (groin) ran the bases on Tuesday and is getting healthier, but he's not in the starting lineup on Tuesday against the Houston Astros. Grichuk has only played in one game so far in the second half of the season due to his groin injury, but he should be considered day-to-day for now. Brenton Doyle is starting in center field on Tuesday and is hitting ninth in the lineup against Astros right-hander Hunter Brown. Grichuk is hitting .300 (61-for-203) on the year, but his counting stats of five home runs, 18 doubles, one triple, 22 RBI and 33 runs scored in 225 plate appearances over 55 games have left a lot to be desired in his second season at hitter-friendly Coors Field.

Mon Jul 17 202301:18Yankees Linked To Randal Grichuk
The New York Yankees have been linked to Colorado Rockies outfielder Randal Grichuk, according to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com. The Yankees are in the market for a corner outfielder, and it would make sense that the Rockies would want to trade Grichuk, who is in the final year of his contract. Grichuk is slashing .300/.364/.473 on the year with 33 runs scored, five homers, and 22 RBI over 225 plate appearances and could be a nice addition to a New York lineup that desperately needs healthy bodies. Moving away from Coors would hurt Grichuk's value, although he would have a chance for more counting stats in a better lineup.

Sat Jul 15 202300:18Randal Grichuk Collects Two Hits Against Yankees
Colorado Rockies outfielder Randal Grichuk went 2-for-2 at the plate in a 7-2 win against the New York Yankees Friday. In the contest, Grichuk had a home run, a single and scored two runs. Both hits came off Yankees starting pitcher Carlos Rondon. The 31-year-old has been playing well this season, hitting .300/364/.473. He's logged five home runs and 22 RBI in 225 plate appearances. During the Rockies last seven games, the right-handed batter has been hot, picking up eight hits in 23 at-bats.

Fri Jun 2 202300:49Randal Grichuk Rests Thursday
Colorado Rockies outfielder Randal Grichuk had a routine day off Thursday. Jurickson Profar, Brenton Doyle, and Nolan Jones manned the outfield in Colorado's 5-4 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks. Charlie Blackmon returned from bereavement leave and occupied the designated hitter spot, while Kris Bryant (foot) was placed on the injured list. Grichuk had hit safely in six of his last nine games prior to the off day. He has a .351 average with one home run in 25 games since returning from offseason hernia surgery.

Thu Jun 1 202314:07Randal Grichuk Getting A Breather Thursday
Colorado Rockies outfielder Randal Grichuk is not in Thursday's starting lineup against the Arizona Diamondbacks and right-hander Zach Davies. Grichuk hit leadoff in Wednesday's contest but will start on the bench for an afternoon contest on Thursday. After recovering from sports hernia surgery, Grichuk is hitting a hefty .351, albeit with just one homer and one stolen base in 25 games. His batting average should see notable regression moving forward given his unsustainable .427 BABIP but he has certainly come out of the gate hot. Nolan Jones will man right field and hit seventh in Grichuk's stead.

Sun May 14 202314:06Randal Grichuk Getting Sunday Off
Colorado Rockies outfielder Randal Grichuk isn't in the starting lineup for Sunday's game against right-hander Aaron Nola and the Philadelphia Phillies. The former 24th overall pick is slashing .349/.417/.512 with a home run and a stolen base over 11 games after beginning the year on the injured list. Brenton Doyle is starting in the outfield instead, batting ninth. The 25-year-old rookie has 15 contests under his belt and is hitting just .195 but with five stolen bases. Doyle's been a bit better off of right-handers but still owns just a .603 OPS, so fantasy managers can ignore him in all formats despite his baserunning.

Sat Apr 29 202316:43Randal Grichuk Activated On Saturday
Colorado Rockies outfielder Randal Grichuk (hernia) has been activated from the 15-day injured list on Saturday. The right-handed slugger has been sidelined all season while recovering from sports hernia surgery. Grichuk is set to make his season debut against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Saturday. He'll bat sixth and play left field against lefty Tommy Henry. It's worth noting that prospect Brenton Doyle wasn't sent back down to the minors with Grichuk being activated. In fact, Doyle is in the lineup for this game, so it appears the Rockies still plan to get him involved even with Grichuk healthy.

Mon Apr 24 202314:19Randal Grichuk To Be Re-Evaluated Monday
Colorado Rockies outfielder Randal Grichuk (hernia) will play three more minor-league games with Triple-A Albuquerque from April 21-23 before the Rockies will re-evaluate his status and potential return from the injured list. Grichuk went 1-for-8 with three walks and four runs scored in his first two rehab games last week. "He's feeling good; he's tracking towards a return," manager Bud Black said. "This is his spring training. This is him getting ready. He had a lot of at-bats in Arizona; now he's playing real games. He's getting close." The 31-year-old has yet to make his 2023 debut while recovering from bilateral sports hernia in the offseason. The Rockies could use some outfield reinforcements with both Yonathan Diaz (hand) and Kris Bryant (lower body) currently injured.
