Sun Mar 2 201416:44Swagerty reassigned to minor league camp
Cardinals reassigned RHP Jordan Swagerty to minor league camp.
The move was made so the young right-hander could join the rehab camp. He's missed nearly all of the past two seasons after undergoing Tommy John and bone spur surgeries, and is now experiencing renewed soreness in his elbow. A once highly-intriguing prospect, Swagerty is hoping to get his career back in track in 2014.

Mon Feb 24 201418:59Swagerty doesn't have structural damage
Tests have ruled out structural in Cardinals pitching prospect Jordan Swagerty's right elbow.
Swagerty has pitched only 10 2/3 innings over the last two years following Tommy John and bone spur surgeries, so there was obviously some concern after he had to halt a bullpen session last week due to soreness. Thankfully, though, he's only dealing with inflammation. Swagerty will be shut down for the time being. "It would be pure speculation, but obviously a guy coming back from Tommy John, it's not uncommon to have that happen from time to time," said general manager John Mozeliak. "I think I would attribute it more to sort of the length of time he hasn't been able to throw and then ratchet it up."

Cardinals pitching prospect Jordan Swagerty (elbow) threw a successful bullpen session on Friday.
The 24-year-old right-hander had a dynamic debut season in 2011, posting a 1.83 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 89/23 K/BB ratio over 93 2/3 innings across three minor levels. Mon Jan 21 201314:34Jordan Swagerty a 'full-go'
Cardinals pitching prospect Jordan Swagerty (elbow) said he's a "full-go" after missing last season following Tommy John surgery.
Swagerty met with the team's medical staff on Sunday in order to gain clearance for a normal approach to spring training, which he received. A 2010 second-round pick, the 23-year-old posted a 1.83 ERA and 89/23 K/BB ratio over 93 2/3 innings in 2011 across three levels. Cardinals pitching prospect Jordan Swagerty will undergo Tommy John surgery.
Swagerty's UCL is in good shape, but he has bone spurs in the elbow that need to be cleaned out, and the Cards were worried a procedure just to remove them would potentially lead to ligament damage. One of the team's better pitching prospects, Swagerty posted a 1.83 ERA and 89/23 K/BB ratio in 93 2/3 innings last season.

Mon Feb 27 201210:24Cards' Swagerty (elbow) out indefinitely
Cardinals pitching prospect Jordan Swagerty (elbow) has been shut down indefinitely.
Joe Strauss of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch is hearing that Swagerty has developed bone spurs, a condition that sometimes requires a clean-up surgery. The Cardinals will play the waiting game for now and hope their 2010 second-round pick simply heals on his own. Swagerty, a 22-year-old right-hander, had a 1.83 ERA and 0.97 WHIP in 93 2/3 minor league innings last season.

Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that pitching prospect Jordan Swagerty was "reassured" about his right elbow after receiving the results of an MRI.
Swagerty has been dealing with stiffness in the elbow, but it sounds like nothing is structurally wrong. The Cardinals have yet to schedule him for a live bullpen session, however. The 2010 second-round pick was fantastic in his first professional season last year, boasting a 1.83 ERA and 0.97 WHIP over 93 2/3 innings while spending time as a starter and reliever across three levels.
