Fri Mar 1519:19George Springer Goes Deep Friday
Toronto Blue Jays outfielder George Springer slugged a solo home run as part of his team's 9-6 loss to the Detroit Tigers in Grapefruit League action on Friday. The long ball was the veteran's second of the spring in what has been a prosperous start to Springer's 2024 season. He is hitting .318 (7-for-22) with seven runs, three RBI, a stolen base, six walks, and a big-time 1.100 OPS across 28 trips to the plate to this point in the spring. He has just three strikeouts in the process. The 34-year-old endured a down season at the plate by his standards in 2023, hitting .258 with 21 home runs and 20 stolen bases across 154 appearances. While a quality campaign overall, his 104 wRC+ was the lowest of his 10-year MLB career. He projects for a bounce back overall by ATC but his 22 homers and 14 stolen bags projected aren't much different than his 2023 season, although those figures would still serve fantasy managers well.

Sun Mar 1012:54George Springer Homers In Win
Toronto Blue Jays outfielder George Springer came up clutch during Saturday's win over the Philadelphia Phillies. The right-handed slugger went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run during Saturday's 13-5 beatdown of the Phillies. Springer's homer off left-hander Matt Strahm was his first of the spring. The Jays are hopeful for better things from Springer after a fairly average season in 2023. Springer has already been named the leadoff hitter for this team, which should boost in fantasy value.

Fri Feb 2301:13George Springer To Remain In Leadoff Role
Toronto Blue Jays outfielder George Springer will remain locked in as the team's leadoff hitter for the 2024 season, manager John Schneider told Keegan Matheson of MLB.com. "For Georgie, it's about getting back to what he's great at," Schneider said. "Pulling the ball more is something he's talking about." These are positive comments and promising updates from the skipper after Springer posted a modest .258/.327/.405 slash line with a career-low 8.8 BB% and 104 wRC+ in 2023. On a positive note, he went yard 21 times, eclipsing the 20-home run mark for the seventh time in the last eight years (with the only exception being the COVID-shortened 2020 campaign in which he launched 14).

Fri Feb 1615:40Blue Jays To Be Deliberate With George Springer In 2024
The Toronto Blue Jays will be deliberate with outfielder George Springer in the 2024 season, per manager John Schneider. Schneider said the team plans to cycle Springer in more at designated hitter in the 2024 season but will also give him his fair share of days off to maintain his health. Although the 34-year-old appeared in 154 games in the 2023 season, he does have a lengthy injury history and endured a down season at the plate in 2023, hitting .258 with 21 home runs, 20 stolen bases, and a .732 OPS across a career-high 683 trips to the plate. His 104 wRC+ graded out just 4% superior to the league average and is the worst figure of his 10-year big-league career. He also walked a career-worst 8.8% clip and saw his isolated power dip to .147, well below his .214 career mark.

Tue Aug 29 202319:11George Springer Back In Leadoff Spot
Toronto Blue Jays outfielder George Springer is starting in right field and serving as the leadoff hitter on Tuesday against the visiting Washington Nationals and left-hander MacKenzie Gore. Manager John Schneider said he's likely going to use Springer as the leadoff hitter for the rest of the year after he handled cleanup duties in the last month. Whit Merrifield has been moved to the five-spot in the Toronto lineup. The 33-year-old Springer has hit only .256 (100-for-391) out of the leadoff spot this year with 13 home runs, 41 RBI, 15 stolen bases and 56 runs scored, but he'll have a bit more fantasy upside in the top spot the rest of the way. He's hit .302 (26-for-86) with four home runs, six doubles, 13 RBI, six steals and 15 runs in 23 starts in the month of August to get the bump back up to leadoff.

Sun Aug 20 202312:25George Springer Back From Ankle Injury
Toronto Blue Jays outfielder George Springer (ankle) has returned to the starting lineup on Sunday against the Cincinnati Reds and right-hander Hunter Greene. Springer is playing right field and batting fifth for Toronto after sitting out the first two games of the series due to a jammed left ankle. Fantasy managers will want to get the 33-year-old veteran back in their starting lineups for the series finale against the Reds. Springer has been feeling it at the plate so far in August, going 18-for-57 (.316) with a homer, four doubles, seven RBI, three stolen bases and seven runs scored in 15 starts. He's hitting .257/.324/.391 with 14 homers, 48 RBI, 16 stolen bases and 63 runs scored in 463 at-bats this year in Toronto's potent lineup.

Sat Aug 19 202316:47George Springer To Miss Second Straight Game
Toronto Blue Jays outfielder George Springer (ankle) is out of the starting lineup for the second straight game on Saturday. Manager John Schneider mentioned that Springer suffered an ankle injury during Wednesday's contest. As a result, Springer has been out of the lineup for each of the last two games. It sounds like Springer is going to be available off the bench on Saturday, so this injury shouldn't require a trip to the injured list. In his absence, Cavan Biggio will cover right field and bat seventh versus left-hander Brandon Williamson on Saturday.

Fri Aug 18 202316:05George Springer Getting A Breather Friday
Toronto Blue Jays outfielder George Springer is getting a day of rest as the team takes on the Cincinnati Reds on the road on Friday. With Springer starting on the bench, Cavan Biggio will make the start in right field and will hit cleanup against Reds right-hander Brett Kennedy. The Blue Jays are hoping a day off for Springer can get him going at the plate again. The 33-year-old has really struggled of late, going 18-for-84 (.214) with a homer, four doubles, seven RBI, 21 strikeouts, three stolen bases and nine runs scored in 22 games (21 starts) since July 23. Despite the struggles offensively in the second half, Springer continues to provide valuable power and speed numbers for fantasy managers with 14 home runs and 16 stolen bases in his 463 at-bats in 2023.

Sun Aug 6 202311:35George Springer Fends Off Skid For Four-Hit Display
Toronto Blue Jays outfielder George Springer went 4-for-4 with two runs scored, one stolen base, and one walk in Saturday's 5-4 win over the Boston Red Sox. The 33-year-old poked four singles in this one, swiping third base to help catalyze a three-run third inning for the Jays. Springer then scored a ninth-inning insurance run in a game where Reese McGuire committed a base-running gaffe to end the contest. Springer carried a frigid 5-for-61 cold spell from July 18 into this one, so perhaps the four-hit attack supplies a much-needed shot in the arm for him. The four-time All-Star remains on pace for arguably his worst season yet, slashing a mediocre .253/.324/.385 with 13 home runs, 43 RBI, and 14 stolen bases covering 423 at-bats.

Fri Jul 28 202316:22George Springer Dropped To Fifth In Lineup
Toronto Blue Jays outfielder George Springer is starting in right field on Friday against Los Angeles Angels right-hander Lucas Giolito, but he's been dropped to fifth in the batting order. Meanwhile, second baseman Whit Merrifield is taking over the leadoff spot for the Jays. Springer has hit leadoff for Toronto this entire season, but he has just one hit in his last 26 at-bats and is really struggling at the dish. The recent cold stretch has dropped the 33-year-old's slash line to .257/.326/.397 on the year. Springer has also added 13 homers, 41 RBI, 13 stolen bases and 56 runs scored in 393 at-bats. Fantasy managers in all formats may want to avoid him until he heats up offensively for Toronto.

Wed Jul 26 202314:28George Springer Returning To The Starting Lineup Wednesday
Toronto Blue Jays outfielder George Springer is back in the starting lineup Wednesday versus the Dodgers and right-hander Tony Gonsolin. While Springer didn't start Tuesday's extra-innings loss, he did walk and score a run across a pair of pinch-hitting plate appearances. It's been an underwhelming season by his standards as the veteran is hitting .260 with 13 homers and a .729 OPS across 98 appearances. While he's managed to stay healthy and has provided fantasy managers with 13 stolen bases, his current OPS is well below his .840 career mark. However, with a .343 xwOBA that is superior to his .320 wOBA, perhaps managers can squeeze some extra production out of Springer over the next couple of months.

Tue Jul 25 202320:06George Springer Retreats To The Bench
Toronto Blue Jays outfielder George Springer is being rested on Tuesday as the team takes on the Los Angeles Dodgers. Springer will retreat to the bench to regroup after getting just one hit in his last 21 at-bats in his last five games. The recent tough stretch has dropped the 33-year-old's slash line this year to .260/.327/.402, but he remains useful in all formats because of his power/speed combination in a stacked Blue Jays lineup. Springer has added 13 home runs, 14 doubles, a triple, 41 RBI, 13 stolen bases and 55 runs scored in 428 trips to the plate over 97 games. The four-time All-Star will be replaced by Jordan Luplow in right field on Tuesday against Dodgers left-hander Julio Urias. Luplow is hitting eighth in the batting order.

Tue Jul 11 202312:07George Springer Reinstated From Paternity List
The Toronto Blue Jays reinstated outfielder George Springer and right-hander Jay Jackson from the paternity list on Monday and optioned second baseman Ernie Clement and right-hander Bowden Francis to Triple-A Buffalo in corresponding moves. Springer left the team for the birth of his child over the weekend and missed the last two games of the first half of the season. The 33-year-old finished the first half with a .269/.330/.422 slash line with 13 home runs, 12 doubles, a triple, 39 RBI, 13 stolen bases and 52 runs scored in 379 plate appearances over 87 games. He's off to a nice start in July, too, going 9-for-30 (.310) with two homers, a double, five RBI, a stolen base and six runs scored in six games, so fantasy managers will be hoping he can pick up where he left off this Friday in the series opener against the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks.

Sat Jul 8 202312:12George Springer Goes On Paternity List
The Toronto Blue Jays placed outfielder George Springer on the paternity list on Saturday and recalled outfielder Nathan Lukes from Triple-A Buffalo in a corresponding move. Springer will miss the final two games of the first half of the season, but he'll be ready to roll next Friday for the start of the second half. With Springer away from the team on Saturday, Cavan Biggio will get the start in right field and hit fifth against Detroit Tigers right-hander Matt Manning. Springer has gotten off to a great start in July, going 9-for-29 (.310) with two home runs, a double, five RBI, a stolen base and six runs scored in six games. The 33-year-old finishes up the first half of the 2023 season with a .269/.330/.422 slash line, 13 long balls, 12 doubles, a triple, 39 RBI, 13 stolen bases and 52 runs scored in 87 games played.

Sat Jul 8 202310:23George Springer Goes Yard In Rout
Toronto Blue Jays right fielder George Springer went 2-for-5 with a home run, a double, and three RBI in Friday's lopsided 12-2 win over the Detroit Tigers. The 33-year-old chased Alex Faedo from the game after finishing off a six-run fourth-inning blitz by Toronto. Springer has carried on his stalwart status this year, batting .269 with 13 big flies, 39 RBI, 13 stolen bases, and 52 runs scored across 346 at-bats. The four-time All-Star seems to have put behind him an early-season slump which saw him hit .219 with a .602 OPS through his first 39 games. Continue to view the leadoff-hitting Springer as a high-end fantasy outfielder as the catalyst of the high-powered Jays offense.

The 33-year-old All-Star is picking it up a bit at the plate so far in the month of June, as he's gone 14-for-50 (.280) with four doubles, three home runs, five RBI and two steals in 13 games. He'll be looking to move his current hitting streak to six games on Thursday against the Orioles and right-hander Tyler Wells.

The 33-year-old has so far remained healthy, too, which has been a problem for him in recent seasons. Continue to trot Springer out into your starting lineups on a daily basis.

Thu May 25 202312:16George Springer Resting Against Rays
Toronto Blue Jays outfielder George Springer is getting a day to rest on Thursday against the Tampa Bay Rays. Springer will take a seat in the matinee game, and fantasy managers need to make sure to shift him to their benches on Thursday. The 33-year-old has been red-hot at the plate in his last 10 games, going 14-for-41 (.342) with a double, triple, two home runs, seven RBI and eight runs scored in 47 plate appearances. Overall, he's hitting .250 (48-for-192) with two doubles, a triple, seven home runs, 22 RBI and eight stolen bases in 48 games played. Springer remains a must-start fantasy commodity. In his absence on Thursday, Nathan Lukes is in right field and is batting sixth, while shortstop Bo Bichette moves to the leadoff spot against Rays right-hander Zach Eflin.

Sat May 20 202319:00George Springer Homers, Fills Up Stat Sheet
Toronto Blue Jays outfielder George Springer went 2-for-4 with a home run, three RBI, two runs scored, and a stolen base in Saturday's 6-5 defeat to the Baltimore Orioles. The 33-year-old is now slashing .234/.298/.647 on the campaign, which is still highly disappointing. The four-time All-Star has been better lately, though, hitting .310/.375/.552 with two blasts and five RBI over his last seven games. Fantasy managers hope that Springer's recent string of strong play isn't curbed by a matchup with Dean Kremer on Sunday. Springer is just 1-for-13 in 14 plate appearances against the Baltimore hurler for his career.
