Tue Mar 7 202312:50Trevor Rosenthal Won't Be Ready For Opening Day
The Detroit Tigers will take their time ramping up relief pitcher Trevor Rosenthal in spring training to make sure that he stays healthy. Manager A.J. Hinch didn't put a timetable on Rosenthal's readiness for games and said "Opening Day is not something that's feasible." "It does not matter when he's ready, as long as he's healthy." Rosenthal isn't dealing with any injury currently, but he's had a long list of ailments in recent seasons. The 32-year-old just signed a minor-league deal with Detroit over the weekend. Thoracic outlet syndrome has kept him out of the big leagues since the shortened 2020 season, so it's anyone's guess as to how effective he'll be with the Tigers in 2023.

Sat Mar 4 202320:10Tigers Sign Trevor Rosenthal To Minor-League Deal
The Detroit Tigers have agreed to terms on a minor-league deal with right-hander Trevor Rosenthal. The 32-year-old will receive an invitation to Spring Training and a chance to earn a roster spot in Detroit. Rosenthal hasn't pitched since 2020, but he was solid during that season. He posted a 1.90 ERA with 38 strikeouts and only eight walks with 11 saves in 23 games between the Kansas City Royals and San Diego Padres. He could very well work his way into high-leverage situations quickly in Detroit. The Tigers don't exactly have much competition at closer. Rosenthal will be someone worth watching during Spring Training.

Thu Dec 1 202211:24Trevor Rosenthal Says He's Healthy
Free-agent relief pitcher Trevor Rosenthal (lat) said he is healthy and is looking for an opportunity to pitch in 2023. Rosenthal last pitched in the big leagues in the shortened 2020 season with the Kansas City Royals and San Diego Padres, posting a legitimate 1.90 ERA (2.22 FIP), a 0.84 WHIP, 11 saves and 38 strikeouts in 23 2/3 relief innings. He then signed a one-year deal with the Oakland Athletics for the 2021 season but never pitched after having thoracic outlet surgery on his shoulder and then surgery to fix a torn labrum in his hip that summer. Rosenthal signed with the San Francisco Giants late this season, but hamstring and lat injuries kept him from pitching with the team. It remains to be seen if a team will take a chance on the hard-throwing, injury-prone right-hander for the 2023 season.

Sat Aug 27 202222:18Trevor Rosenthal "Likely" Out For The Season
Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Trevor Rosenthal (hamstring, lat) is "likely" out for the remainder of the season. He sustained a lat injury similar to teammate Freddy Peralta that caused the right-hander to miss nearly three months. Rosenthal had missed a lot of time recovering from a hamstring issue and was on track to return to Milwaukee's bullpen until sustaining a lat injury. The 32-year-old hasn't pitched since 2020 and will look to make a full recovery for 2023. Rosenthal posted a 1.90 ERA, 0.85 WHIP, and was 11-for-12 in save opportunities across 23 2/3 innings in 2020.

Tue Aug 2 202219:28Trevor Rosenthal Traded To The Brewers
The San Francisco Giants traded pitcher Trevor Rosenthal (hamstring) to the Milwaukee Brewers on Tuesday. The 32-year-old is several weeks away from pitching, but it didn't stop Milwaukee from acquiring Rosenthal. He didn't pitch in 2021 due to shoulder and hip issues. The right-hander posted a 1.90 ERA, 0.85 WHIP and a 38:8 K:BB across 23 2/3 innings for the Padres/Royals in 2020. Rosenthal topped out at 95 mph in a bullpen outing two weeks ago before injuring his hamstring. He is expected to return to action in late August. Fantasy managers in deeper leagues can stash Rosenthal for now, as he is likely to be in a high-leverage role once activated from the injured list, although there's no guarantee he'll return to his pre-injury form.

Fri Jul 22 202200:07Trevor Rosenthal Several Weeks Away From Joining Giants
San Francisco Giants relief pitcher Trevor Rosenthal is "several weeks" away from joining the club, as stated by manager Gabe Kapler on Thursday. The 32-year-old was signed to a deal earlier in the day but was subsequently placed on the injured list after suffering a left hamstring strain during a recent showcase for interested teams. Rosenthal was clocked in at 95-96 mph during the session despite missing the entire 2021 campaign due to injury, so he could prove to be a solid late-inning arm for the Giants bullpen whenever he joins his new squad.

Tue Jun 7 202220:12Trevor Rosenthal Suffers Cramp During Showcase
Free-agent relief pitcher Trevor Rosenthal (hamstring) hit 95-96 mph during his showcase on Tuesday but ended the session with a cramp in his hamstring area. Fourteen major league teams were in attendance during his session on Tuesday. The hard-throwing 32-year-old right-hander could land with a team soon as long as his hamstring isn't a long-term concern. Rosenthal rebounded in 2020 with the Kansas City Royals and San Diego Padres, posting a 1.90 ERA and 0.84 WHIP while walking only eight and striking out 38 batters in 23 2/3 relief innings, but the injury bug bit him again and he missed all of last year. If he signs with another team, it's likely to be on a minor league deal.

Tue Jun 7 202210:46Trevor Rosenthal To Pitch For Scouts On Tuesday
Free-agent relief pitcher Trevor Rosenthal will be hosting a showcase for MLB teams at St. Thomas University in Miami Gardens on Tuesday. The 32-year-old underwent thoracic outlet surgery in April of last year. He was a member of the Oakland Athletics at the time, but never wound up making an appearance for the team. The last time we saw him in the majors was 2020, the year he pitched for both the Kansas City Royals and San Diego Padres. Over 23 2/3 innings in 2020, he had a 1.90 ERA and a 0.85 WHIP while converting 11 saves.

Sun Apr 3 202212:40Trevor Rosenthal Drawing A Lot Of Interest
Free-agent relief pitcher Trevor Rosenthal is drawing a lot of interest from teams, according to MLB Network's Jon Heyman. Last year, the 31-year-old underwent thoracic outlet surgery and was forced to miss the entirety of the 2021 season. However, he was effective the last time we saw him in the majors. In 2020 while pitching for the Kansas City Royals and San Diego Padres, he posted a 1.90 ERA and 0.85 WHIP while averaging 14.5 K/9 over 23 2/3 innings. While Heyman didn't specify which teams are most interested in Rosenthal, it's likely that the veteran will wind up competing for a setup role wherever he lands.

Fri Oct 9 202001:25Tatis, Padres have to wait till next year as Dodgers sweep
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Fernando Tatis Jr. bent backward from his knees and stared skyward after his wild throw became San Diego's playoff-high fifth error and gave the Los Angeles Dodgers the tying run. The 21-year-old budding superstar and the rest of the Padres will have to wait at least another year for the club's first trip past the National League Division Series since 1998. Tatis' throwing error from his knees after a diving stop on an infield single by Corey Seager came early in a five-run third inning that propelled the Dodgers to a 12-3 victory Thursday night and a sweep of the neutral-site best-of-five NLDS. No matter how many pitchers the Padres threw at their NL West rivals — 11 in a postseason record for a nine-inning game — they never really were in the series except for one bases-loaded chance for Slam Diego at the end of Game 2. The Padres couldn't add to their majors-leading seven grand slams from the regular season, although Jake Cronenworth's walk and Trent Grisham's... [More]

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Harrison Bader tripled and homered to help the St. Louis Cardinals clinch a postseason berth on the final day of the regular season with a 5-2 win over Milwaukee, and the Brewers also earned a playoff spot Sunday via help on the West Coast moments later. St. Louis (30-28) will be the fifth seed in the NL and open a three-game wild-card series at San Diego on Wednesday. By winning, the Cardinals avoided having to travel to Detroit for two makeup games Monday. The Brewers (29-31) locked up the eighth seed and a third consecutive postseason berth after the Padres beat San Francisco 5-4 in a game that ended about 15 minutes later. The Giants finished with an identical record as the Brewers but lost out on a tiebreaker due to an inferior intradivision record. Milwaukee will face the top-seeded Dodgers in Los Angeles in a three-game series that also starts Wednesday. The Brewers haven’t had a winning record at any point this season. SAN DIEGO (AP) — The San Diego Padres are returning to the playoffs for the first time in 14 years after beating the Seattle Mariners 7-4 Sunday with a three-run rally in the 11th inning that included a go-ahead double by newcomer Mitch Moreland. The clincher came in the finale of a series that was moved from Seattle because of poor air quality due to wildfires, so the Mariners were considered the home team and batted last. After closer Trevor Rosenthal (1-0), another newcomer, struck out Phillip Ervin for the final out, the Padres had a brief but joyous celebration in the infield. Then they gathered near the dugouts to get playoff caps and T-shirts.
