Sun Feb 412:18Heath Hembree Inks Minor-League Deal With Seattle
Veteran relief pitcher Heath Hembree has signed a minor-league contract with the Seattle Mariners. The 35-year-old righty had worked just 23 1/3 innings at the major league level over the last two seasons, compiling a poor 6.94 ERA and 1.886 WHIP in the process. He was with the Tampa Bay Rays last season, appearing in just one game. He will likely just serve as organizational depth in Seattle.

Tue May 24 202218:17Daniel Vogelbach, Heath Hembree Placed On Injured List
The Pittsburgh Pirates placed first baseman Daniel Vogelbach (hamstring) and relief pitcher Heath Hembree (calf) on the injured list on Tuesday. Vogelbach is on the 10-day list while Hembree is on the 15-day list, retroactive to May 21. Right-handed pitcher Roansy Contreras was called up to start Tuesday's game in a corresponding move. Meanwhile, outfielder Cal Mitchell was recalled as well. Vogelbach is off to a solid start to his first year with the Pirates. Over 34 games, he's slashing .241/.321/.457 with six home runs, 14 RBI and 14 runs. His injury designation is a left hamstring strain.

Tue Mar 15 202213:20Pirates Sign Heath Hembree
The Pittsburgh Pirates announced on Tuesday that they signed free-agent relief pitcher Heath Hembree to an undisclosed one-year deal. Hembree spent the 2021 season pitching for the New York Mets and Cincinnati Reds, posting a 5.59 ERA and 1.19 WHIP with nine saves in 58 innings over 60 relief appearances. The 33-year-old had a bit of bad luck (4.31 FIP), but he's not likely to be much of a fantasy asset in Pittsburgh, where he's projected to be a setup man ahead of co-closers David Bednar and Chris Stratton. Hembree might be one to look at in deep holds leagues, but he doesn't have a ton of upside with a 4.19 career ERA and 11 saves in nine major league seasons.

Tue Aug 17 202117:44Heath Hembree Designated For Assignment
Cincinnati Reds relief pitcher Heath Hembree was designated for assignment on Tuesday, according to C. Trent Rosencrans of The Athletic. Hembree had been in the mix for saves in Cincinnati for a while, but over his last seven innings of work he has allowed 13 runs on 10 hits and seven walks. For now, it appears that Mychal Givens is first in line for saves in the Reds' bullpen and will be followed by Michael Lorenzen. Hembree can be dropped in all formats.

Wed Aug 4 202106:59Heath Hembree Blows Save On Tuesday
Cincinnati Reds right-hander Heath Hembree allowed three runs in 2/3 of an inning in a 7-5 loss to the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday. Hembree struck out two and walked two in the outing. He was called upon in the ninth inning to protect a 5-4 lead but instead walked the first two batters he faced and then served up a three-run homer to Jorge Polanco. Hembree was charged with the loss and a blown save in the game. Overall, Hembree has a 2-6 record, 5.40 ERA, 1.07 WHIP, eight saves, two blown saves, and 63 strikeouts over 38 1/3 innings of work. Hembree could be losing his grip on the ninth-inning role considering he's allowed at least an earned run in four straight appearances.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Patrick Sandoval had his no-hit bid broken up with one out in the ninth inning on a soft double by rookie Brent Rooker and the Los Angeles Angels beat the Minnesota Twins 2-1 on Saturday night. Sandoval, a 24-year-old lefty who began the game with a 3-13 career record, struck out a career-high 13. There have already been seven no-hitters in the majors this season. The big league record of eight was set in 1884, the first year overhand pitching was permitted. The Twins hadn’t come close to a hit until Rooker, who fanned his first three times up, flared an opposite-field fly that fell just inside the line in right. Sandoval (3-4) smiled after the ball fell, retired the next batter and then was pulled after 108 pitches. He walked one and hit two. Closer Raisel Iglesias allowed an RBI double to Josh Donaldson before getting his 21st save in 25 chances. José Berríos (7-5) allowed two unearned runs in seven innings in perhaps his final start for Minnesota. ASTROS 4, RANGERS... [More]

MIAMI (AP) — Braves star Ronald Acuña Jr. will have season-ending surgery to repair a completely torn ACL in his right knee after he was injured during Atlanta’s 5-4 win over the Miami Marlins on Saturday. An MRI showed the severity of the injury and the Braves made the announcement shortly before midnight that their three-time All-Star will be out until at least next year. Acuña landed awkwardly on his right leg after jumping on the warning track in right field to try to catch a drive from Jazz Chisholm Jr. in the fifth inning. The 23-year-old slammed into the outfield wall and crumbled on the warning track, immediately grabbing his right knee while Chisholm sprinted out an inside-the-park homer.
