Wed Nov 1 202316:14Evan Longoria Back In World Series Lineup
Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Evan Longoria is back at third base and is hitting eighth in Game 5 of the World Series on Wednesday against the Texas Rangers and right-hander Nathan Eovaldi as the D-backs look to stave off elimination. Emmanuel Rivera will return to the bench after starting at the hot corner in Game 4 on Tuesday. In the first three games of the Fall Classic, the 38-year-old Longo went 2-for-8 with an RBI and two runs scored. In 15 postseason games in October, Longoria has hit just .156 (7-for-45) with two doubles, four RBI, 20 strikeouts and three runs scored. He's had some modest success against Eovaldi in his career, going 4-for-14 with an RBI, two walks and four strikeouts. Arizona is going to need Longoria to heat up with the bat if they are going to make things interesting in this series.

Tue Oct 31 202316:13Emmanuel Rivera Starting Over Evan Longoria In Game 4
Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Evan Longoria will retreat to the bench for Game 4 of the World Series on Tuesday against the visiting Texas Rangers. Instead, Emmanuel Rivera will start at the hot corner and bat eighth against Rangers left-hander Andrew Heaney. Rivera has gone 2-for-2 with a double, two RBI, a walk and two runs scored off the bench in the first three games of the World Series, and he'll now receive his first start of the Fall Classic. The 27-year-old is hitting .286 (4-for-14) with no homers, a double, three RBI and three runs scored this postseason. During the regular season, he hit .289 (26-for-90) with one of his four home runs against left-handed pitchers. Rivera has never faced Heaney in his career.

Mon Oct 16 202319:34Evan Longoria Remains In The Lineup For Game 1
Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Evan Longoria has been slumping at the plate, but will remain in the lineup for Monday's Game 1 against the Philadelphia Phillies. The D-Backs will stick with Longoria at third base despite him going 3-for-18 at the plate during the postseason. Although, the 38-year-old has played well on defense, so at least he has that going for him. He'll cover the hot corner and bat eighth versus right-hander Zack Wheeler during Game 1 of the NLCS.

Wed Oct 11 202318:19Evan Longoria Back In Lineup For Game 3
Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Evan Longoria (hand) is back at third base and is batting eighth on Wednesday against the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers for Game 3 of the National League Division Series. Longoria was removed for a pinch-runner in the ninth inning in Game 2 on Monday after being hit by a pitch on his right hand, but X-rays came back negative and he's good to go after an off day on Tuesday. The 38-year-old will look to help the Snakes to what would be a surprising three-game sweep of the division-rival Dodgers in the best-of-five series after winning the first two games in LA. So far in four postseason games this year, Longo is 3-for-15 with a double and five strikeouts in 17 plate appearances. In his career against Dodgers right-hander Lance Lynn (Wednesday's starter), Longoria is 1-for-7 with a double, an RBI and four strikeouts.

Tue Oct 10 202301:39Evan Longoria Day-To-Day After HBP On Hand
Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Evan Longoria (hand) is being labeled as day-to-day after he was hit by a pitch on his hand in the Game 2 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League Division Series on Monday. X-rays came back negative on Longoria's hand, so he could be able to return for Game 3 in Arizona on Wednesday. The 38-year-old veteran was replaced by a pinch-runner after getting hit in the hand in the top of the ninth inning. Longo ended up going 1-for-3 in the contest with the hit by pitch and two strikeouts, so he's now 3-for-15 with a double and two RBI in four postseason games this year. Overall in his career, Longoria hasn't been clutch in the playoffs, as he came into Monday's game batting just .181 (26-for-144) with 10 home runs, 24 RBI and 45 K's in 156 career postseason plate appearances .

Thu Aug 17 202320:15Evan Longoria Starting Rehab Assignment Thursday
Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Evan Longoria (back) is starting a minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A Reno on Thursday night. Longoria suffered a setback with renewed stiffness in his lower back earlier this month, but it looks like he's made progress and is approaching a return to the big leagues. The 37-year-old veteran has been out since late July, but he could become a part-time option at third base for the Snakes again soon if he doesn't have another setback during his rehab assignment. Longo is mainly a corner-infield option in deeper fantasy leagues at this point in his career. Before going on the injured list, he was hitting .238/.303/.500 with an .803 OPS, 11 home runs, 24 RBI and 24 runs scored in only 55 games in his first year in the desert.

Sat Jul 29 202318:37Evan Longoria Placed On 10-Day Injured List
Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Evan Longoria (back) has been placed on the 10-day injured list on Saturday. The 37-year-old is dealing with a lower back strain, so he'll get some time off to rest. The assumption is that Longoria is only going to require a minimal stint on the injured list. In a corresponding move, infielder Josh Rojas has been recalled to take the spot on the active roster. Rojas will cover third base and bat seventh versus right-hander Bryan Woo on Saturday.

Mon Jul 24 202319:40Evan Longoria On The Bench Monday
Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Evan Longoria is not in the starting lineup for Monday night's series opener versus the St. Louis Cardinals and right-hander Adam Wainwright. The veteran went 0-for-4 with a pair of strikeouts in Sunday's series finale with the Reds but will take a seat on Monday. Longoria's bat has remained productive at the age of 37 as he has hit 11 home runs along with a .335 wOBA across 53 games. However, he also sports a .363 xwOBA which suggests he could see improved results moving forward. Emmanuel Rivera will take over at the hot corner Monday night, hitting sixth against Wainwright in Arizona.

Fri Jul 21 202318:35Evan Longoria Sitting Out On Friday
Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Evan Longoria is out of the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Cincinnati Reds. It appears the veteran slugger will get a routine rest day here. He could use it considering he's 2-for-19 since the beginning of July. In his absence, Emmanuel Rivera will cover third base and bat seventh versus right-hander Blake Lively on Friday. Fantasy managers should adjust their lineups accordingly with Longoria sidelined.

Fri Jul 14 202317:40Evan Longoria Playing Third Base Friday
Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Evan Longoria will make the start at third base and hit sixth in the lineup on Friday against the Toronto Blue Jays and right-hander Jose Berrios to kick off the second half of the season. Longoria and Emmanuel Rivera are currently locked into a platoon at the hot corner in the desert for the D-backs, but it will be the 37-year-old veteran getting the nod for the first game of the second half. Longoria can still provide a little thump for fantasy managers in deeper leagues, as he's hit 11 home runs in 139 at-bats this year, but he's hitting only .237 with 22 RBI and went hitless in his last five games before the All-Star break.

Wed Jun 7 202314:40Evan Longoria Returns To The Starting Lineup Wednesday
Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Evan Longoria is back in the starting lineup Wednesday night against the Washington Nationals and left-hander Patrick Corbin. It's the veteran's first game action since Saturday when he hit a solo home run for his third long ball over his last five games and fifth across his last 11 contests. Despite the recent power surge, Longoria has just one multi-hit effort since a two-hit effort on April 18. The 37-year-old is hitting just .216 but with eight homers and an impressive .289 isolated power in 32 contests while his .347 xwOBA is superior to his .321 wOBA. Considering his .283 ISO and .911 OPS against lefties this season, Longoria is a nice streaming option against Corbin.

Tue Apr 4 202312:50Evan Longoria Hits First Homer Against Padres
Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Evan Longoria went 2-for-4 with his first home run of the season, an RBI, two runs scored and a strikeout in Monday night's 5-4 loss to the San Diego Padres. Longoria is now hitting .273 (3-for-11) with a double, home run, RBI and three runs scored in the first four games of the 2023 season after taking the day off on Sunday. The 37-year-old is no longer in his prime, but he can provide fantasy managers with modest counting stats if he's able to stay on the field. Longo has dealt with various injuries in recent seasons and hasn't played over 89 games since 2019. There's also a good chance he won't be an everyday player for the D-backs with some talented youngsters in need of playing time on their roster.

Fri Dec 30 202219:04Evan Longoria Lands One-Year Deal With Diamondbacks
The Arizona Diamondbacks and free-agent third baseman Evan Longoria agreed to a one-year deal on Friday. The Arizona Republic's Nick Piecoro reported that the deal is for $4 million and includes $1 million in incentives. Longoria wanted to play for a contender, and while Arizona isn't necessarily viewed as one by most folks, they are a young team on the rise. He also lives in Scottsdale. Longo, now 37 years old, only managed to play in 89 games for the San Francisco Giants in 2022 and hit .244/.315/.451 with a .767 OPS, 14 home runs, 42 RBI and 31 runs scored in 298 plate appearances. At this point in his career, he may no longer be an everyday player -- he hasn't played in over 100 games since 2019 -- but he could be more productive for fantasy managers in spurts against left-handed pitching.

Fri Dec 9 202213:16Diamondbacks In The Market For Evan Longoria
The Arizona Diamondbacks are one of around five teams that are looking at free-agent corner infielder Evan Longoria. The 37-year-old became a free agent when the San Francisco Giants declined his $13 million team option for the 2023 season. The D-backs are looking at another similar veteran third baseman on the open market in long-time Dodger Justin Turner. Longoria hit .244/.315/.451 with 14 home runs, 42 RBI and 31 runs scored in 298 plate appearances and just 89 games for the Gigantes in 2022 due to injuries. The three-time All-Star has played fewer than 90 games in each of the last two seasons and will be an injury-prone fantasy corner infielder with some waning power for whichever team he signs with heading into 2023.

Tue Dec 6 202215:44Evan Longoria Talking To Five Teams
Veteran free-agent corner infielder Evan Longoria is talking to five teams on the free-agent market and is looking to play for a contender. Longoria became a free agent after the 2022 season when the San Francisco Giants declined his $13 million club option for 2023. The 37-year-old is no longer in his prime and played fewer than 90 games in each of the last two years in San Francisco. He mostly dealt with a thumb injury this season and finished with a .244/.315/.451 slash line with 14 home runs, 42 RBI and 31 runs scored in 298 plate appearances and 89 games. The Giants could bring him back on a cheaper deal. At this point in his career, Longoria is better suited to be a full-time designated hitter.

Thu Nov 10 202213:49Giants Not Picking Up Evan Longoria's Option
As expected, the San Francisco Giants aren't picking up third baseman Evan Longoria's $13 million option for the 2023 season, making him a free agent. Instead, he'll receive a $5 million buyout. Dialogue remains open with the team, so a reunion is possible. Longoria is interested in seeing what free agency has to offer, though. The 37-year-old veteran played in just 89 games in 2022 due to a thumb injury, and he hasn't played over 89 games in the last two years. In his 298 plate appearances in 2022, he hit .244/.315/.451 with 14 home runs, 42 RBI and 31 runs scored for the Giants. Longoria can still swing the bat and provide some power, and although he's no longer in his prime, he should be able to find work around the league as at least a part-time corner infielder/designated hitter.

Mon Oct 3 202220:26Evan Longoria's Season Is Over
San Francisco Giants third baseman Evan Longoria's (thumb) 2022 season is over after X-rays showed a right thumb fracture after he was hit by a ground ball on Sunday. Along with Longoria, Thomas Szapucki (hip) will also land on the injured list with a hip strain. Bryce Johnson and left-hander Andrew Vasquez will join the Giants active roster for the final three games of the regular season this week against the San Diego Padres. The 36-year-old Longoria will finish his fifth season in San Francisco with a .244/.315/.451 slash line with 14 home runs, 42 RBI and 31 runs scored in 298 plate appearances over 89 games played. Mon Oct 3 202209:08Evan Longoria Will Undergo Testing
San Francisco Giants third baseman Evan Longoria (hand) is set to undergo X-rays following Sunday's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks. The veteran infielder was hit by the ball in the hand while in the field. He wasn't removed from the game, but he likely would've been taken out if his spot in the batting order came up. His availability for Monday's game against the San Diego Padres is unknown. At this point, it's likely that the Giants take the cautious approach and rest Longoria.

Wed Sep 14 202214:21Evan Longoria Not Starting On Wednesday
San Francisco Giants third baseman Evan Longoria isn't in the team's starting lineup on Wednesday for a matchup with the Atlanta Braves and right-hander Charlie Morton. Longoria is batting .244 with a .317 on-base percentage in 262 plate appearances this season. He's also collected 12 home runs. However, he'll head to the bench on Wednesday with David Villar starting at third base instead and hitting fifth. In 117 plate appearances so far for the Giants in 2022, Villar is batting .214 with a .333 on-base percentage and five home runs. Fantasy managers in search of streaming help are probably better off looking elsewhere.

Mon Sep 5 202208:44Evan Longoria Has Pinch-Hit Appearance
San Francisco Giants third baseman Evan Longoria (hamstring) was out of the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the Philadelphia Phillies. The veteran slugger continues to deal with a lingering hamstring issue. Although, Longoria was able to come off the bench as a pinch hitter during Sunday's contest. The right-hander slugger did strike out, but at least he was able to take an at bat. It appears that Longoria is making progress with his left hamstring issue. Fantasy managers should consider him as day-to-day going forward.
