Mon Feb 2617:53Nick Ahmed Signs Minor-League Deal With Giants
Free-agent shortstop Nick Ahmed signed a minor-league deal with the San Francisco Giants on Monday. The deal includes an invitation to major-league spring training. Ahmed and long-time Giants shortstop Brandon Crawford battled for the National League Gold Glove at the 6 for a while, with Ahmed winning it in 2018-19 while playing for the Arizona Diamondbacks. The 33-year-old veteran will give the Giants a backup option to rookie Marco Luciano at shortstop in 2024. Ahmed really struggled at the plate in his 10th season in the desert last year, slashing just .212/.257/.303 with two home runs, 17 RBI, five stolen bases and 14 runs scored in 72 games played before he was released in September. Unless Luciano misses extended time with an injury, Ahmed isn't going to be attractive in many fantasy leagues.

Thu Sep 7 202308:28Nick Ahmed Designated For Assignment
The Arizona Diamondbacks have designated shortstop Nick Ahmed for assignment on Wednesday to make room on the roster for the newly promoted Jordan Lawlar. The 33-year-old has spent his entire 10-year career in Arizona, where he posted a .234/.288/.376 slash line with 70 bombs and 41 steals. Ahmed appeared in only 72 games this season, as he produced an ugly .212 average with two homers, 14 runs, 17 RBI, and five stolen bases. The two-time Gold Glove award winner isn't really known for his bat, and fantasy managers should continue to leave him on the waiver wire, even if he gets a shot with another club.

Wed Mar 29 202311:30Nick Ahmed Unlikely To Play Every Day Early On
Arizona Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said shortstop Nick Ahmed (shoulder), who is coming off shoulder surgery, is unlikely to play every day early in the season. The D-backs will look to ease Ahmed back into action while also keeping young shortstop Geraldo Perdomo active. Perdomo hit just .195/.285/.262 with a .547 OPS, five home runs, 40 RBI, 58 runs scored and nine stolen bases in 148 games in 2022 in his first full major-league seasons, so he'll need to play better to hold off Ahmed once he's back to full health. Ahmed played in only 17 games last year due to his shoulder injury, and the 33-year-old also isn't much to look at offensively, but he has much more experience and is solid with the glove at the 6. He should only be stashed in NL-only leagues.

Mon Mar 6 202312:43Nick Ahmed Returns To Lineup Monday
Arizona Diamondbacks shortstop Nick Ahmed (forearm) is back in the Cactus League lineup on Monday against the Kansas City Royals, starting at shortstop and batting sixth in the lineup. This will be Ahmed's spring debut after he missed some time in camp with right forearm inflammation. The 32-year-old veteran was limited to just 17 games in 2022, mostly due to a shoulder injury that eventually required season-ending surgery. Ahmed is expected to battle with Geraldo Perdomo for the starting job at the 6 in spring training. If Ahmed wins the job, he'll only be relevant in NL-only leagues, as he's not much to look at offensively. In his nine big-league seasons (all with Arizona), he has a .236/.290/.382 slash line with a .672 OPS, 68 home runs, 305 RBI and 36 stolen bases in 816 games played.

Sun Feb 26 202311:38Nick Ahmed Out Five Days With Forearm Injury
Arizona Diamondbacks shortstop Nick Ahmed (forearm) will be out for at least the next five days with tightness/inflammation in his left forearm. There's no reason to believe he'll miss an extended period of time, but he was given a cortisone injection to reduce the inflammation. Ahmed has missed time each of the last three years since he jammed his right shoulder diving for a ball in 2020. He played in only 17 games in 2022 before having surgery on his shoulder. Geraldo Perdomo saw most of the starts at the 6 in Ahmed's absence last year, and the two are expected to battle for playing time this spring. Arizona also has Diego Castillo and Blaze Alexander that can play the position if Ahmed misses significant time again in 2023.

Thu Jun 9 202209:54Nick Ahmed Transferred To 60-Day Injured List
The Arizona Diamondbacks transferred shortstop Nick Ahmed (shoulder) from the COVID-19 injured list to the 60-day injured list on Wednesday. Ahmed had been on the COVID-19 injured list for about three weeks. While he was out on a rehab assignment recently, he began feeling right shoulder soreness, so the team shut him down. He has been diagnosed with right shoulder inflammation. His move to the 60-day injured list makes him ineligible to return until early August.

Tue May 17 202208:21Nick Ahmed Placed On Injured List Monday
The Arizona Diamondbacks placed shortstop Nick Ahmed on the injured list with an undisclosed injury on Monday. A move to the injured list without an injury designation typically means the move was COVID-related. However, Ahmed has also been dealing with right shoulder issues this year, so the move to the injured list could be related to that. The team called up fellow infielder Jake Hager from Triple-A to take Ahmed's roster spot. Ahmed has played in 17 games so far this year and he's slashed .231/.259/.442 with three home runs, seven RBI and seven runs scored.

Sat Apr 16 202210:24Nick Ahmed Takes At-Bats In Extended Spring Training
Arizona Diamondbacks shortstop Nick Ahmed (shoulder) took eight at-bats at the team's extended Spring Training complex at Salt River Flats on Thursday. It was the first time he swung a bat since being shut down in late March with recurring shoulder problems. The 31-year-old says he's feeling much better. Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said "would push for him to go on a rehab assignment nevertheless. That'll be my vote," Lovullo said. "I'm not the only voter in this situation, but I want to make sure he gets himself as ready as possible." Ahmed is expected to be the team's starting shortstop after slashing .221/.280/.339 with five home runs and 38 RBI over 129 games in 2021. Geraldo Perdomo will continue filling in at shortstop while Ahmed is sidelined but is off to a slow start, collecting one hit with seven strikeouts over 16 at-bats.

Wed Mar 30 202214:55Nick Ahmed Shut Down For 10 Days
Arizona Diamondbacks shortstop Nick Ahmed (shoulder) said he's received a pair of cortisone shots in his shoulder and will not be able to hit or throw for the next 10 days. With Opening Day eight days away, Ahmed will not be ready for the start of the regular season. With the 32-year-old sidelined with right shoulder discomfort, Geraldo Perdomo and Sergio Alcantara should split the duties at the 6 in Arizona until Ahmed is return to return. Fantasy managers in deeper leagues shouldn't be surprised if Ahmed misses most of the opening month of the season. At a premier position packed with loads of power upside, Ahmed doesn't give you much fantasy upside with 10 combined homers in the last two years and a career average of .236 in eight big-league seasons.

Mon Mar 28 202211:43Nick Ahmed Battling Shoulder Discomfort
Arizona Diamondbacks shortstop Nick Ahmed (shoulder) is dealing with discomfort in his right shoulder, the same shoulder that caused him to miss the final two weeks of last season. He has had a platelet-rich plasma injection and a cortisone shot and will have an MRI exam to see where things stand. Ahmed may need to go under the knife, which obviously would put him out to begin the 2022 regular season. The 32-year-old was projected to open the year as Arizona's starting shortstop, but that job may now fall to Geraldo Perdomo, depending on the outcome of his MRI exam. Ahmed slashed .221/.280/.339 with five home runs, 38 RBI, 46 runs and seven stolen bases in 473 plate appearances in his eighth season with the D-backs in 2021.

Mon Sep 27 202108:36Nick Ahmed Placed On Injured List With Shoulder Inflammation
The Arizona Diamondbacks placed shortstop Nick Ahmed (shoulder) on the 10-day injured list on Sunday. The 31-year-old veteran had been sidelined for about a week before the move to the injured list. The team originally said he was dealing with right shoulder soreness, but he was placed on the injured list with left shoulder inflammation. The move is retroactive to September 23, so he's technically eligible to return for the team's last game of the year. Geraldo Perdomo was recalled to take Ahmed's roster spot and he should see a good amount of playing time going forward, though Josh Rojas might be the team's primary shortstop in Ahmed's absence.

Sat Sep 4 202106:54Nick Ahmed Triples, Logs Two RBI On Friday
Arizona Diamondbacks infielder Nick Ahmed went 2-for-5 with a triple, two RBI, and a run scored during Friday's 6-5 loss to the Seattle Mariners. He lined a two-run single into left field to tie the game 5-5. The 31-year-old is starting to heat up and has logged multi-hit efforts each in three of his last five games. He is slashing .224/.284/.338 with four home runs, 37 RBI, 44 runs scored, and seven stolen bases over 439 plate appearances in 2021. Ahmed is worth a speculative add in deep-league formats after hitting .281 (9-for-32) with a homer and eight RBI over his last eight games.

Sun Aug 1 202102:24Nick Ahmed Homers In Loss Saturday
Arizona Diamondbacks shortstop Nick Ahmed went 1-for-3 with a home run, one RBI and a run scored in an 8-3 loss to the Dodgers on Saturday. It was his third homer of the season, as he has begun to heat up a bit at the plate recently by slashing .265/.294/.388 with one homer, two steals, six RBI and five runs scored over his last 15 games. Despite this, he remains only an option in very deep formats as he's slashing .221/.284/.326 with three home runs, seven steals, 21 RBI and 31 runs scored over 92 games this season.

Sun Jul 4 202102:18Walker shuts down Yanks, Mets fans cheer 8-3 win in Bronx
NEW YORK (AP) — Taijuan Walker took a no-hitter into the sixth inning, Brandon Nimmo provided a spark in his return from the injured list and the New York Mets beat the crosstown Yankees 8-3 Saturday to open a three-game Subway Series. The Mets already led 8-0 when Aaron Judge homered with one out in the sixth to end Walker’s bid for the record-tying eighth no-hitter in the majors this season. Walker (7-3) was lifted after 5 2/3 innings and got a standing ovation from Mets fans among the season-high crowd of 40,047 at Yankee Stadium. Jordan Montgomery (3-3) stranded five Mets baserunners over the first three innings to keep it scoreless, but the visitors broke through in the fifth. Nimmo led off with a single, one of his three hits, and scored the first run. TIGERS 11, WHITE SOX 5 DETROIT (AP) — Eric Haase hit a three-run, inside-the-park homer and later cleared the fence for another three-run drive, and Detroit snapped Chicago's five-game winning streak. NEW YORK (AP) — Gio Urshela stayed in the game despite a shard of a broken bat hitting his right eye in the second inning and hit a go-ahead homer eighth as the New York Yankees rallied from a three-run deficit in a 7-5 victory Saturday that stopped the Oakland Athletics’ seven-game winning streak. Aroldis Chapman struck out Matt Chapman on a 103.4 mph pitch to strand two runners in the ninth for his 15th save. Urshela singled in New York’s first run in the fourth and put the Yankees ahead 5-4 in the eighth when he lifted a 98.6 mph fastball from Jesús Luzardo (2-4) into the netting above Monument Park in center. DJ LeMahieu added a two-run single against Sergio Romo. Chad Green (2-4) struck out the side in the eighth. PADRES 7, REDS 5 SAN DIEGO (AP) — Rookie Kim Ha-seong hit a tiebreaking, two-run home run with two outs in the eighth — three innings after he replaced injured star shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. — and San Diego beat Cincinnati. Sun Jun 20 202100:58Dodgers' Buehler has no-hit bid end in 8th vs. Diamondbacks
PHOENIX (AP) — Walker Buehler's no-hit bid for the Los Angeles Dodgers ended in the eighth inning Saturday when Arizona's David Peralta lined a leadoff single into center field. The 26-year-old right-hander cruised through the Diamondbacks' order, walking two, hitting a batter and striking out a season-best 11. He was pulled with one out in the eighth after giving up a second single to Nick Ahmed. Buehler breezed through the seventh, striking out Eduardo Escobar and Christian Walker before getting Stephen Vogt to ground out. But Peralta got a pitch up in the zone to start the eighth and lined a clean single into center. Buehler got a big hand from a sizable contingent of Dodgers' fans at Chase Field in Phoenix. If Buehler's no-hitter had continued, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts might have had a tough decision: Buehler was already at 101 pitches when he gave up Peralta's single, nearing his season-high of 105. There have already been six no-hitters this season, and a seventh would match 1990,... [More]
