Tue Feb 2713:50Marcus Semien Getting On Base Through Two Spring Appearances
Texas Rangers second baseman Marcus Semien made his Cactus League debut in Friday's 5-4 win over the Royals, going 0-for-1 with a walk. He followed that up with a 1-for-2 outing that included a hit by pitch on Sunday in a 0-0 tie with the Giants, bringing his spring OBP to .600. Although he should be fine, he was pinch run for at first base after the HBP. Semien is coming off a season in which he played all 162 games, had a 25-game hit streak, earned his second All-Star nomination, and earned his second Silver Slugger award on his way to a third-place finish for AL MVP. The righty even finished off the Rangers' postseason run with a 7-game hit streak. Going off the board at around the 28th overall pick, RotoBaller sees a bit more upside with a ranking of 24th overall, and he should finish once again as one of the top second base options in 2024.

Fri Oct 20 202314:39Struggling Marcus Semien Aiming To Maintain Success Versus Verlander
Texas Rangers second baseman Marcus Semien will look to maintain his career-long success against Astros right-hander Justin Verlander on Friday night despite entering the game with a cold bat. The veteran has just three hits, and zero extra-base hits, with one walk across 17 plate appearances across the first four games of this ALCS versus the Astros. He does, however, sport quality career numbers off of Verlander as he has gone 14-for-46 (.304) with a double, a triple, and a pair of home runs in his career against Verlander, good for a healthy .804 OPS. While he has zero walks against nine strikeouts off of the Future Hall of Famer in that time, perhaps seeing a pitcher he has faced plenty throughout his career can help dig Semien out of his slump.

Mon Sep 25 202300:25Marcus Semien Launches Two Long Balls Sunday
Texas Rangers second baseman Marcus Semien was phenomenal on Sunday, belting two solo home runs as the Rangers collected a 9-8 victory over the Mariners, capping off a three-game sweep. With seven games left in the season, Semien can reach a 30-homer year, needing just three more long balls. The 33-year-old has stepped to the plate 642 times in 2023 and has posted a slash line of .277/.350/.475 with 27 home runs and 97 RBI.

Tue Aug 15 202300:51Marcus Semien Powers Texas To Victory
Texas Rangers second baseman Marcus Semien went 2-for-5 with a home run, five RBI, a walk, and a stolen base in a 12-0 shutout victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Monday. This game was no contest as Texas dismantled Patrick Sandoval and the Halos. Semien did his part, driving in Robbie Grossman with an RBI single in the bottom of the second before drawing a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the third to extend the lead to 4-0. He did his real damage in the bottom of the seventh inning after the game was all but over when he smashed a three-run homer off Griffin Canning. Semien has been a top-five second baseman since the beginning of the season and is showing no signs of stopping at the dish. Overall, the 32-year-old is slashing .283/.354/.470 with 19 home runs, 77 RBI, and 11 stolen bases over 492 at-bats.

Sun Jul 16 202322:48Marcus Semien Smacks First Homer Since Late June In Win
Texas Rangers second baseman Marcus Semien went 1-for-2 with a solo home run, two additional runs scored, and two walks in Sunday's 6-5 win over the Cleveland Guardians. The 32-year-old thumped his first homer since June 26 in the first inning of this one, closing the book on a 15-game homerless skid. Semien got aboard twice more later in the game, ultimately coming around to score both times via a couple of Nathaniel Lowe singles. Sunday's effort represents an encouraging sign for Semien, who was also batting just .213 with a .588 OPS covering his prior 33 outings (141 at-bats). Overall, the 2023 All-Star is hitting .272 with a .785 OPS, 12 taters, 58 RBI, nine stolen bases, and an AL-high 75 runs scored (393 ABs) this year.

Sun Jul 9 202310:51Marcus Semien Goes Hitless For Fifth Time In Six Days
Texas Rangers second baseman Marcus Semien went 0-for-3 with a walk in Saturday's 8-3 loss to the Washington Nationals. The 32-year-old is now just 1-for-25 across his last six games. Perhaps MLB's leader in plate appearances could use the imminent All-Star break. Since Semien's 25-game hitting streak ended on June 7, he is slashing a substandard .208/.268/.308 with just two home runs, six RBI, and two stolen bases over his last 30 games (130 at-bats). It's a buy-low opportunity in fantasy for the 2023 All-Star, who is still hitting .271 with a .774 OPS, 11 homers, 56 RBI, nine swipes, and an AL-high 69 runs scored overall.

Mon Jun 26 202323:15Marcus Semien Homers, Logs Third Straight Multi-Hit Game
Texas Rangers second baseman Marcus Semien went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Monday's 7-2 loss to the Detroit Tigers. The 32-year-old is rebounding from a difficult 11-for-72 dry spell from June 6 to June 23 with his third straight multi-hit effort. Semien has curiously refrained from attempting a stolen base since May 13, which has marginally curbed his fantasy value over this time. The lack of running could simply be a testament to the high-octane nature of the Rangers offense not warranting the action as frequently; Adolis Garcia has also seen a dip in this area. Nevertheless, Semien remains a supreme fantasy infielder while slashing .281/.341/.462 with 11 homers, 55 RBI and seven stolen bases over 369 plate appearances this year. The workhorse has played in all 78 Texas games in 2023 and Semien is on pace to lead MLB in PAs for the fourth time in the last five seasons.

Sun Jun 18 202322:35Marcus Semien Picks Up An RBI In Win
Texas Rangers second baseman Marcus Semien went 1-for-4 with a double, an RBI, and a run scored in an 11-7 win over the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday. Semien picked up his 54th RBI of the season in the bottom of the fifth inning with a sacrifice fly to score Ezequiel Duran. He also doubled in the contest and scored a run. The 32-year-old is putting together an excellent season and is on pace to beat his previous career high in RBI (102 back in 2021). He's slashing .279/.342/.466 with 10 home runs, 54 RBI, and seven stolen bases over 298 at-bats.

Sat Jun 10 202320:46Marcus Semien Collects Two More Hits On Saturday
Texas Rangers second baseman Marcus Semien went 2-for-5 with a run scored and a strikeout in an 8-4 win over the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday. The Rangers were all over rookie starting pitcher Taj Bradley in this one, chasing him after 3 2/3 innings and five runs (four earned). Semien reached twice with a pair of singles and scored a run in the big win. The 32-year-old has been hot over the last seven contests with a .313/.353/.531 triple-slash line. He's been hot pretty much the entire year, though, with a rock-solid .297/.363/.487 batting line to go along with nine home runs, 50 RBI, and seven stolen bases over 263 at-bats.

Sat Jun 3 202301:00Marcus Semien Reaches Once And Scores
Texas Rangers second baseman Marcus Semien went 1-for-4 with a single, a run scored, and a strikeout in a 2-0 win over the Seattle Mariners on Friday. This one was a pitcher's duel as Luis Castillo and Jon Gray both dominated the game. It was Castillo who cracked first, however, as Semien led off the bottom of the sixth with a single. He would come around to score on a Nathaniel Lowe sacrifice fly in the same frame. The one run would prove to be the difference as the Seattle offense was anemic, per usual. Semien has simply been awesome as the Rangers' leadoff man this season, slashing a rock-solid .294/.364/.481 to go along with eight home runs, 44 RBI, and seven stolen bases over 231 at-bats. His rate stats are all well above his career-high triple-slash line of .257/.323/.444.

Wed May 24 202316:20Marcus Semien Goes Deep In Win Over The Pirates
Texas Rangers second baseman Marcus Semien went 1-for-5 with a solo home run and a strikeout in a 3-2 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday. Semien opened up the scoring with a 372-foot home run to the left field off Johan Oviedo in the top of the first inning. It was his only hit of the ball game but it proved to be the difference maker in a one-run contest. For the season, the 32-year-old second baseman is slashing .299/.373/.498 with eight home runs, 40 RBI, and seven stolen bases over 201 at-bats. He's nearly halfway to his 2022 RBI total (83) in just 49 games so far this season.

Thu May 11 202300:03Marcus Semien Snaps Homer-Less Streak In Win
Texas Rangers second baseman Marcus Semien went 2-for-5 with two RBI, blasting his sixth homer of the season in a 4-3 triumph over the Mariners on Wednesday. The 32-year-old holds something of a fantasy sell-high case after this performance, as he possesses a noticeable discrepancy between his actual and expected numbers in multiple hitting statistics, per Statcast. Before Wednesday's game, the infielder exhibited a near 100-point differential between his SLG (.457) and xSLG (.362) percentages, according to Statcast's database. Perhaps this debatable sell-high window could extend through the weekend as Semien and his fantasy managers look forward to a four-game set with his former Athletics club and their shoddy pitching.

Mon Apr 17 202300:11Marcus Semien Smacks Grand Slam In Rangers Victory
Texas Rangers second baseman Marcus Semien unloaded a grand slam in a 9-1 win over Houston on Sunday. Semien went 2-for-5 in the contest. The 32-year-old is batting lead-off, and he currently has a .250 batting average with two home runs, 12 RBI, and four doubles in the first month of the season. He's only swiped one base this year, but Semien will be a force on the base path, as he had 25 stolen bases just one year ago.

Wed Mar 15 202321:59Marcus Semien Having Solid Spring
Texas Rangers second baseman Marcus Semien is hitting .300/.344/.400 so far in spring training. Though the power hasn't shown up yet -- Semien has zero home runs -- it's nice to see him collecting base hits after a slow start to the season in 2022. Semien is currently 9-for-30 with seven runs scored, though he has no RBI or stolen bases. Those will come, however, after Semien drove in 83 runs and stole 25 bases last year. Though he won't be a boon to your average and he's not a great play in on-base-percentage leagues, he's a top-30 pick. He currently has an ADP of 27.3 and a RotoBaller ranking of 28, so plan to have to grab him early in your drafts.

Fri Sep 30 202214:25Marcus Semien Hits Two Homers Thursday
Texas Rangers second baseman Marcus Semien went 2-for-5 with two home runs, four RBI, two runs scored and two strikeouts in Thursday's 10-9 loss to the Seattle Mariners. Thursday's game featured an offensive explosion from both teams, and Semien was right in the thick of it. The 32-year-old power-hitting second baseman is now hitting .255/.311/.444 with 26 home runs, 82 RBI, 99 runs scored and 24 stolen bases in his 628 at-bats in his first year for the Rangers. It's a drop after he hit a record-breaking 45 home runs and drove in 102 runs in 2021 in his final year with the Blue Jays, but his production this year has still been solid for fantasy managers. Hopefully he'll finish off his 2022 campaign strong for his fantasy managers.

Tue Sep 13 202223:25Marcus Semien Doubles Three Times
Texas Rangers second baseman Marcus Semien doubled three times Tuesday, coming around to score on each occasion in an 8-7 victory over the Oakland Athletics. It's his second consecutive three-hit game, and Semien now has a .276/.321/.504 slash line with five homers and five steals over his last 30 games. With 22 homers and 24 steals on the season, he's been able to silence any early-season doubters. Semien remains one of the premiere power-speed options in the majors, and his middle-infield eligibility boosts his fantasy value even further.

Sun Jul 17 202223:23Marcus Semien Homers And Steals A Base
Texas Rangers second baseman Marcus Semien contributed across the board Sunday, going 2-for-4 with a solo home run, a walk, and a stolen base in a 6-2 loss to the red-hot Seattle Mariners. Semien now has 13 home runs and 17 stolen bases on the season, totals which affirm his place towards the top of many rankings despite an ice-cold start to the season. With a .264/.316/.496 slash line in his last 30 games, Semien is primed to greatly improve on his current .697 season OPS in the second half, and fantasy managers should look to make a move for him if they still can.

Thu Jun 23 202209:04Marcus Semien Goes Hitless With Three Strikeouts On Wednesday
Texas Rangers second baseman Marcus Semien had a rough game at the plate in Wednesday's 4-2 win over the Philadelphia Phillies. He went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts in the contest. Despite the disappointing performance, Semien has been really coming around lately. Through 20 games in June, he's slashing .293/.348/.537 with six home runs, six stolen bases, 10 RBI and 14 runs. He entered the month slashing .199/.266/.274 on the year, but his recent play has lifted his season-long slash line to .228/.291/.354.

Mon Jun 13 202214:59Marcus Semien Enjoying Productive Stretch
Texas Rangers second baseman Marcus Semien is batting .217 with a .278 on-base percentage, six home runs, and 10 stolen bases in 259 plate appearances this season, but he may be starting to turn things around based on his recent play. The veteran is hitting .304 with a .377 on-base percentage, and six home runs in his last 77 plate appearances dating back to May 27. He's continued to bat either first or second for the Rangers and should be one of fantasy baseball's best middle infielders for the remainder of the season.
