Fri Mar 821:03Eugenio Suarez Continues Hot Spring On Friday
Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Eugenio Suarez continued his hot start to spring training Friday against the Chicago Cubs. He went 2-3 with two singles, a run, and an RBI during Friday's 7-5 spring victory over the Chicago Cubs. Suarez missed nearly a week of spring training due to side tightness and returned to action on Tuesday. Suarez is hitting .500 (5-for-10) with a home run and a 1.445 OPS in five games in spring training. The Diamondbacks acquired Suarez from the Seattle Mariners this offseason in exchange for Carlos Vargas and Seby Zavala. The 32-year-old will look to improve on his 2023 season in Seattle, in which he slashed .232/.323/.391 with 22 home runs, 96 RBI, 68 runs, and two stolen bases over 694 plate appearances. Suarez is a consistent source of power at the hot corner and should pop 20-plus homers (ATC projects 23) in 2024, making a late-round value at his current NFBC ADP of 275.

Thu Feb 2915:09Eugenio Suarez Scratched With Side Tightness
Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Eugenio Suarez (side) was scratched from Thursday's Cactus League contest against the San Francisco Giants with left-side tightness, according to manager Torey Lovullo. Suarez is considered day-to-day. Suarez's injury doesn't seem too serious, so hopefully he'll be back in spring training action by the weekend. In his place, Blaze Alexander got the start at third base for Arizona on Thursday. The 32-year-old Suarez is a solid source of power, especially with the move to the desert, but he strikes out way too much to help even remotely in batting average. He's also coming off a season in which he hit just 22 home runs and had his lowest slugging percentage (.391) since his rookie year in 2014. Suarez should bounce back in the power department if he can stay healthy in Arizona.

Wed Nov 22 202314:24Eugenio Suarez Shipped To D-Backs In Three-Player Deal
The Seattle Mariners have traded third baseman Eugenio Suarez to the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for right-handed pitcher Carlos Vargas and catcher Seby Zavala. The 32-year-old Suarez will be in the final season of a seven-year, $66 million contract in 2024, although the D-backs will hold a club option on the veteran for the 2025 campaign. Suarez took a step back at the plate in 2023 but still had a solid season that included a .232 average with 22 home runs, 96 RBI, and a .714 OPS while appearing in all 162 games, production that graded out 2% above the league average, as per his 102 wRC+. Zavala limped to a .171 average with seven homers across 193 plate appearances between the White Sox and D-backs in 2023 but is a highly-regarded defender behind the plate and should serve as Cal Raleigh's backup next season. Vargas, 24, made five appearances in his MLB debut with the D-backs last season, allowing three earned on two homers in that time but he also struck out seven of the 22 batters he faced. He also scuffled to a 7.02 ERA in 38 outings at Triple-A Reno but is a live arm who averaged 99.5 mph on his four-seam baseball in his brief MLB time last season.

Tue Sep 5 202316:34Mariners Give Eugenio Suarez The Day Off
Seattle Mariners third baseman Eugenio Suarez will start Tuesday's contest against the Cincinnati Reds on the bench. Believe it or not, this will be Suarez's first real day of rest all season long. Jose Caballero will start at the hot corner and hit eighth in the lineup against Reds rookie right-hander Connor Phillips, who will be making his major-league debut. The 32-year-old Suarez is in desperate need of a break, as he's gone just 4-for-33 (.121) with no home runs, two doubles, no RBI, 14 strikeouts and four runs scored in his last nine starts since Aug. 26. In his second year in Seattle, Suarez is hitting .230 (117-for-508) with 18 home runs, 22 doubles, 83 RBI, 55 runs scored and a league-high 181 strikeouts in 137 games. If he ends the year with an American League-high in K's, it will be the third time in the last five years that Suarez has led the league in strikeouts.

It was nice to see the veteran third baseman back in there a day later, but he's gone just 5-for-28 (.179) with a homer, eight RBI and 13 strikeouts in his last eight games to drop his season slash line to .222/.330/.330 with five doubles, five home runs, 29 RBI, one stolen base and 19 runs scored in 218 trips to the plate over 50 games. Wed Apr 19 202321:47Eugenio Suarez Cools Down At The Plate
After a phenomenal start to the season, Seattle Mariners' third baseman Eugenio Suarez has cooled off at the plate. He went hitless in the Mariners' 5-3 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers, which lowered his average to .200 over the past seven games. His numbers are still quite impressive, but his production at the plate is a critical component of the Mariners' lineup. Seattle is 4-3 over the past seven games, and Suarez could have made a considerable difference if his bat contributed. The 31-year-old is slashing .200/.355/.320 in that seven-game span, in which he struck out 10 times while reaching base just eight times. On the season, the Venezuela native owns a .745 OPS with two home runs and a 117 wRC+.

Fantasy managers will be hoping it won't affect his power stroke to close out the 2022 regular season. The 31-year-old veteran slugger has been great for the M's and fantasy managers this year, hitting .235/.335/.470 with an .805 OPS, 31 home runs, 84 RBI and 72 runs scored in 511 at-bats.

Suarez initially landed on the injured list on Sept. 17 with a small fracture on the tip of his right index finger, but he's ready to return to Seattle's lineup for the home stretch of the regular season. It's great news for fantasy managers that need a little more power to win a fantasy title in 2022. The 31-year-old veteran is slashing .235/.335/.470 with an .805 OPS, 31 home runs, 84 RBI and 72 runs scored in his first year with the M's.

Thu Sep 22 202212:29Eugenio Suarez Starting To Swing
Seattle Mariners third baseman Eugenio Suarez (finger), who was put on the injured list on Saturday with a fractured right index finger, has started taking light swings again with both a softer ball and regular baseballs. He's scheduled to take batting practice during the weekend series against the Kansas City Royals. "Geno feels much better," skipper Scott Servais said. It's nice that Suarez is progressing, but the reality is that he's highly unlikely to produce much for fantasy managers if he's able to make it back before the end of the regular season. At this point, the M's are probably just trying to get him ready for a possible postseason run. The 31-year-old is slashing .235/.335/.470 with 31 homers, 84 RBI and 72 runs in 2022 in his first year in Seattle.
