Westlake has been assigned to minor league camp.

He'll likely return to Double-A Erie after hitting .236/.293/.396 there last season. Westlake had a chance to hang around on the Opening Day roster if both Miguel Cabrera and Victor Martinez were unavailable to begin the season, but both players are on track to be in the Opening Day lineup.

Westlake will get a longer look during spring training with Miguel Cabrera (foot) and Victor Martinez (knee) returning from injury, the Tigers' official site reports.

A former third-round pick, Westlake hasn't advanced above Double-A. He'll enter camp as a 26-year-old, but as one of two healthy first basemen (Jordan Lennerton) in camp for Detroit. If the Cabrera or Martinez are forced to begin the regular season on the disabled list, Westlake has an outside shot at beginning the year on the 25-man roster, but his stay would likely be brief after he hit just .236/.293/.396 at Double-A Erie last season.
