Fri Mar 2209:59Orlando Arcia Hits Fourth Homer Of Spring
Atlanta Braves shortstop Orlando Arcia went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Thursday's Grapefruit League action against the New York Yankees. Arcia now has four homers to go along with a healthy .286 batting average this spring. The 29-year-old has always had a great glove, but broke out offensively last season to make his first All-Star team. Arcia hit .264 with a career-high 17 homers and 65 RBI in 488 at-bats. It is always wise to draft players in strong offenses and Arcia fits that bill, but managers should not be surprised if there is a little regression out his bat in 2024. He is best served as infield depth in deeper formats.

Sun Mar 1717:31Orlando Arcia Considered Day-To-Day
Atlanta Braves shortstop Orlando Arcia (left) was forced to exit early during Sunday's Grapefruit League contest against the Boston Red Sox. The 29-year-old was hit on the hand by a 96 mph pitch during Sunday's game. Luckily, it appears Arcia has avoided serious injury. The X-rays came back negative and Arcia is considered day-to-day with a left hand contusion. The expectation is that Arcia will sit out for a few days before rejoining the lineup. Fantasy managers should have Arcia back to full speed in time for Opening Day.

Sat Aug 12 202310:43Orlando Arcia Missing From Game 1 Lineup Saturday
Atlanta Braves shortstop Orlando Arcia is outside of the starting lineup for the matinee of Saturday's doubleheader against the New York Mets. Nicky Lopez takes over at short and bats ninth for Game 1. Arcia has been a revelation this year; the 2023 All-Star is slashing .297/.353/.467 with 13 home runs, 43 RBI, and 49 runs scored in 330 at-bats. Look for the 29-year-old to get back in there during the nightcap against southpaw Jose Quintana. Arcia is hitting .356 (21-for-59) with six homers, three doubles, and 10 RBI versus left-handed pitching this season.

Sun Jun 18 202309:42Orlando Arcia Carries On Resurgent Season
Atlanta Braves shortstop Orlando Arcia finished 3-for-4 with a home run, two RBI, a stolen base, and an additional run scored in the club's 10-2 squashing of the Colorado Rockies on Saturday. The 28-year-old continues to add to his breakout season. Arcia is slashing a robust .396/.458/.547 with two homers and 12 RBI across his last 53 at-bats. The former Milwaukee Brewers burnout may spend most of his time in the lower-third of the lineup, but his fantastic .339/.398/.494 triple-slash line over 174 ABs overall is impossible to ignore. Arcia hasn't missed a beat since returning from a mid-April wrist fracture in early May. Some regression is possible, but fantasy managers who added the middle infielder in the early goings of the campaign should continue to hang on tight despite his unfavorable lineup placement.

Mon May 8 202312:27Orlando Arcia Hits A Double In His Return
In his return from the injured list on Sunday, Atlanta Braves shortstop Orlando Arcia went 1-for-4 with a double and two strikeouts in the team's 3-2 extra-inning victory over the visiting Baltimore Orioles. It was Arcia's first game action since April 12 because he didn't go on a minor-league rehab assignment before he returned from the injured list. The 28-year-old should take over primary shortstop duties in Atlanta now that he's back and Vaughn Grissom is back in the minor leagues. Arcia is more useful for his glove on defense, but you also can't ignore the fact that he's hitting .327 (16-for-49) with three doubles, two home runs, seven RBI and 10 runs scored in his first 14 games played in 2023.

Sun May 7 202315:41Braves Option Vaughn Grissom, Activate Orlando Arcia
The Atlanta Braves sent down shortstop Vaughn Grissom to Triple-A prior to Sunday's walk-off triumph over the Orioles. It was a corresponding move as the team activated fellow infielder Orlando Arcia(wrist) from the injured list before the game. The 28-year-old hit eighth in the contest, going 1-for-4 in his return, taking Grissom's roster spot in the process. Arcia is now slashing .327/.389/.510 this season following Sunday's effort, while Grissom wasn't giving the Braves any outstanding stuff with his bat or his glove in Arcia's stead. Grissom possesses significant hitting potential, as evidenced by his .291/.353/.400 triple-slash line from 2022. The 22-year-old's lack of defensive acumen will continue to cost him opportunity at the major-league level, however, until he demonstrates some growth in that facet of his game.

Fri May 5 202312:05Orlando Arcia Begins Taking Dry Swings
Atlanta Braves infielder Orlando Arcia (wrist) started taking dry swings on Thursday. Arcia is starting to ramp up his baseball activities after he suffered a microfracture in his left wrist on April 12. There's still no timetable for the 28-year-old's return from the injured list, though, and he's likely to need to go on a minor-league rehab assignment before the Braves feel comfortable activating him. Barring any setbacks along the way, Arcia could return to Atlanta in the middle of May. Before the injury, he was hitting a strong .333 (15-for-45) with two doubles, two home runs and seven RBI in 13 games played. Vaughn Grissom has been handling shortstop duties ever since, and Arcia could return to a bench role when he's ready.

Tue May 2 202322:03Orlando Arcia "Not Far Off" From Returning
Atlanta Braves shortstop Orlando Arcia (wrist) is close to making a return to the roster and told reporters that he hopes to be back by Friday, according to Justin Toscano of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The former Milwaukee Brewers prospect suffered a microfracture in his left wrist and has been out of action since April 12. Arcia has yet to swing a bat, but manager Brian Snitker said he isn't "far off." Before he landed on the injured list, he was off to a fantastic start, slashing .333/.400/.511 with two bombs, 10 runs, seven RBI, and no stolen bases over 13 games. When Arcia does come back, that would spell Vaughn Grissom out of a starting role, who has been a bit disappointing through 15 games, hitting .294 with no home runs or stolen bases. Fantasy managers can drop him in virtually every league.

Thu Apr 13 202322:33Orlando Arcia Lands On The 10-Day Injured List
The Atlanta Braves placed infielder Orlando Arcia (wrist) on the 10-day injured list Thursday. Arcia suffered a microfracture in his left wrist and is without a timetable for a return. The 28-year-old was off to a hot start in 2023, slashing .333/.400/.511 with two home runs, seven RBI, and 10 runs scored across 13 games. Microfractures can heal without surgery as the Braves wait for Arcia's wrist to recover and begin strengthening. Vaughn Grissom is expected to be recalled from Triple-A to replace Arcia. Grissom is slashing .366/.458/.585 with Triple-A Gwinnett across 10 games in 2023. Fantasy managers should look to pick up Grissom in all league formats.

Wed Apr 12 202321:14Orlando Arcia Leaves Wednesday's Game With Wrist Injury
Atlanta Braves shortstop Orlando Arcia left his team's game against the Cincinnati Reds with an injury to his wrist. Arcia went for X-rays, which came back negative, which is a positive development for the young infielder. He was hit by a pitch in his lone plate appearance on Wednesday night. Arcia is likely to undergo further testing in the coming days but it appears that he dodged a bullet here. Look for the Braves to update his status in the next couple of days.

Fri Apr 7 202300:38Orlando Arcia Walks Off The Padres Thursday
Atlanta Braves shortstop Orlando Arcia continued his torrid start to the season on Thursday, going 3-for-4 with a homer and walking the game off in the bottom of the ninth to send the Braves to a 7-6 win over the San Diego Padres. Arcia has been a revelation to start the season for Atlanta, hitting .370 with seven runs scored, four RBI, and two homers early in the campaign. Perhaps the Braves were onto something when they gave Arcia the starting shortstop job over top prospect Vaughn Grissom, a decision that many questioned. Of course, it could unravel quickly for Arcia, who has a career OPS of .670. But at the very least, he has earned himself more time to play himself out of the job.

Thu Mar 30 202308:33Orlando Arcia Given Three-Year Deal
The Atlanta Braves are in agreement with shortstop Orlando Arcia on a three-year deal, with a club option for 2026, according to Robert Murray of FanSided. The contract is worth $7.3 million. Arcia, 28, won the shortstop battle in Spring Training after the team sent down Vaughn Grissom and Braden Shewmake to Triple-A. Last season he slashed .244/.316/.416 with nine home runs, 25 runs, and 30 RBI across 68 games with the Braves. He might not hold down the position for long with the two other candidates breathing down his neck, and fantasy managers shouldn't be too interested in Arcia, especially as the projected ninth batter in the lineup.

Mon Mar 20 202318:08Orlando Arcia Will Be Opening Day Shortstop
Atlanta Braves infielder Orlando Arcia will be the team's Opening Day shortstop after the team sent both Vaughn Grissom and Braden Shewmake to Triple-A Gwinnett on Monday. Ehire Adrianza will serve as a utility infielder. Arcia hasn't really stood out on offense in spring training, but the Braves would like both Grissom and Shewmake to get some more minor-league seasoning before they make their debuts in 2023. The 28-year-old Arcia is much more trustworthy on defense, so he'll get the nod to open the regular season. In 67 games with Atlanta last year, Arcia slashed .244/.316/.416 with a .733 OPS, nine homers, 30 RBI and 25 runs scored in 234 plate appearances. He's merely keeping the job warm for either Grissom or Shewmake at some point in 2023.

Thu Feb 9 202313:55Orlando Arcia Could Start At SS; Vaughn Grissom In Minors?
MLB.com's Mark Bowman suggests there's a chance that Atlanta Braves middle infielder Vaughn Grissom will begin the 2023 season in an everyday role with Triple-A Gwinnett if the Braves decide to use Orlando Arcia as the starting shortstop to begin the year. Arcia ranked among the middle of the pack in terms of outs above average as the Milwaukee Brewers' starting shortstop from 2017-20. Grissom has incredible work ethic, but he may not be fully ready for the starting gig just yet after making his major-league debut for Atlanta in 2022. The 22-year-old's defense at the 6 is somewhat in question, so he could use a bit more seasoning on the farm with his glove. But make no mistake, Grissom is the superior offensive weapon in the long term for Atlanta.

Sat Aug 27 202213:07Orlando Arcia Starting Rehab Assignment
Atlanta Braves infielder Orlando Arcia (hamstring) will begin a minor league rehab assignment with Triple-A Gwinnett on Saturday. The 28-year-old second baseman has been out since early August with a left hamstring injury but he's on track to return to the Braves sometime in early September. Arcia was slashing .243/.321/.405 with seven home runs and 26 RBI across 173 at-bats before going down. He'll likely serve in a bench/utility role when he returns to majors.

Wed Aug 10 202200:38Orlando Arcia Sustains Left Hamstring Strain Tuesday
Atlanta Braves second baseman Orlando Arcia (hamstring) strained his left hamstring in Tuesday's extra-inning 9-7 win over the Red Sox. Arcia went 1-for-4 with an RBI double and a walk. The double came in the 10th inning but resulted in the injury. The 28-year-old will be placed on the injured list, per Braves beat writer Justin Toscano. Arcia has done a decent job in a bench role this season, slashing .243/.321/.405 with seven home runs and 26 RBI. That being said, this news has little fantasy implication, as Arcia is currently rostered in just two percent of leagues.

Thu Jun 16 202214:22Orlando Arcia Homers, Adds Four Hits
Atlanta Braves utility man Orlando Arcia stands to take over at second base with Ozzie Albies (foot) expected to miss much of the rest of the season, and he has already made his presence felt. Batting eighth against the Washington Nationals Wednesday, Arcia went 4-for-4 with a home run, two RBI, and a walk. He has just 68 plate appearances in 19 games so far this year, but he's produced a 1.046 OPS with three homers in that time. Any regular offensive player on a team as hot as the Braves is worth a look in fantasy, though Arcia is not likely to be an offensive force long term.

Tue Nov 30 202120:39Orlando Arcia Returning To Atlanta
Utilityman Orlando Arcia will be returning to the Atlanta Braves after signing a two-year deal worth $3 million dollars in guaranteed money that contains a team option for 2024. Arcia only came to the plate 78 times after being trade from Milwaukee partway through the 2021 campaign, slashing .214/.282/.343. He's never had an OPS higher than .734, in the abbreviated 2020 season. It appears Atlanta has plans for the versatile Arcia, but fantasy managers do not need to pay him any mind.

Sat Jul 31 202114:12Orlando Arcia, Sean Newcomb Optioned To Triple-A
In order to make room for newly acquired relief pitcher Richard Rodriguez and outfielder Jorge Soler, the Atlanta Braves optioned shortstop/outfielder Orlando Arcia and pitcher Sean Newcomb to Triple-A on Saturday, the team announced on Twitter. Arcia is slashing .183/.234/.300 over 21 games between Milwaukee and Atlanta this season with two homers, one steal, 10 RBI and five runs scored. Newcomb has struggled in the majors this season with a 5.68 ERA and 1.776 WHIP, but he has also recorded a career-best 27.3 percent strikeout rate. Arcia and Newcomb were only options in deeper formats, and with this move managers can safely dump him to the waiver wire.

Fri Jul 23 202103:24Rays rally past Tribe after trading for slugger Nelson Cruz
CLEVELAND (AP) — Austin Meadows hit an RBI single in the 10th inning to cap Tampa Bay’s comeback in a 5-4 win over the Cleveland Indians on Thursday night, hours after the Rays acquired slugger Nelson Cruz from Minnesota. Meadows’ one-out liner off Bryan Shaw (3-4) brought home Randy Arozarena, who began the 10th at second base. Down 4-2 in the ninth, the Rays rallied to tie it against closer James Karinchak on a leadoff homer by Yandy Diaz and Brandon Lowe’s two-out RBI double. Pete Fairbanks (3-3) pitched the ninth and Diego Castillo struck out Franmil Reyes and Bobby Bradley with the potential tying run at third in the 10th for his 14th save. The Rays announced their acquisition of Cruz just before the first pitch. Needing a big bat for the playoff push, Tampa Bay got a potent one from the disappointing Twins. Cruz has 436 career homers, and his presence alone will re-shape Tampa Bay’s lineup. Indians starter Cal Quantrill allowed just one run in six strong innings before turning it... [More]
