Thu Jun 30 202214:40Odubel Herrera Not Facing The Braves
Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Odubel Herrera is out of the starting lineup on Thursday against the Atlanta Braves. It will be Herrera's second straight game starting on the bench, and his 2-for-33 (.061) stretch at the plate in nine games over the last two weeks probably has a lot to do with it. The recent cold streak has dropped his season line to .230/.267/.401 with five home runs, 18 RBI, 18 runs scored and four stolen bases in 49 games. With Herrera out again, Matt Vierling will get the start in center field and will bat ninth against Braves right-hander Ian Anderson. You can probably do much better than Vierling in DFS if you're looking for an outfielder sleeper. He's hitting .237 with three homers, seven RBI and two stolen bases in 93 at-bats in 2021.

Tue May 3 202218:05Odubel Herrera A Late Scratch On Tuesday
Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Odubel Herrera was scratched from the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the Texas Rangers about 30 minutes before the first pitch. He was the second Philly to be scratched from the team's original starting lineup. Nick Castellanos was an earlier scratch to tend to the birth of his child. As for Herrera, we have not been given the reason for his scratch yet. Perhaps he's racing to the hospital with the hope of earning some godfather points for the soon-to-be-born Castellanos child. Matt Vierling is taking over for Herrera in center field and batting ninth in Tuesday's game.

Fri Apr 22 202212:39Phillies Activate Odubel Herrera From Injured List
The Philadelphia Phillies activated outfielder Odubel Herrera (oblique) from the 10-day injured list on Friday and optioned outfielder Simon Muzziotti to Double-A Reading in a corresponding move. Herrera began the regular season on the injured list due to a right oblique strain that was suffered early in spring training. The 30-year-old hit .281 with three doubles, four runs scored and three RBI in eight minor league rehab games. Herrera should make his season debut on Friday against Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Freddy Peralta while playing center field, and he should be on the strong side of a platoon at the position with Matt Vierling in Philadelphia.

Mon Apr 18 202211:39Odubel Herrera Could Return By Friday
Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Odubel Herrera (oblique) will move his rehab assignment to Triple-A Lehigh Valley this week, and manager Joe Girardi said that Herrera could return to the team as early as their next homestand, which begins on Friday against the Milwaukee Brewers. Herrera has been on a rehab assignment with Single-A Clearwater since April 12. The 30-year-old center fielder began the regular season on the 10-day injured list with a strained right oblique, but he has made good progress and could make his season debut at some point this weekend. When he's back, expect Matt Vierling and Herrera to split playing time in center field, with Herrera seeing the strong side of the platoon against right-handers.

Wed Mar 23 202222:33Odubel Herrera Could Miss 4-6 Weeks
Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Odubel Herrera (oblique) could miss four to six weeks due to a mild strain in his right oblique. He is expected to miss Opening Day, and it's unclear when he'll be ready to return to action. The 30-year-old re-signed on a one-year deal with the Phillies during the offseason. Herrera slashed .260/.310/.416 with 13 home runs, 51 RBI and six steals in 492 plate appearances over 124 games in 2021. Adam Haseley and Matt Vierling will get a look in center field while Herrera is sidelined. Both are expected to split time and are mainly borderline fantasy options in NL-only leagues.

Mon Mar 14 202211:00Odubel Herrera Returns To Phillies
The Philadelphia Phillies re-signed outfielder Odubel Herrera to an undisclosed one-year deal on Monday. The Phillies weren't going to spend big bucks on a new center field in free agency, so they decided to settle for Herrera, who was actually pretty solid against right-handed pitchers in 2021. The 30-year-old is projected to serve in a platoon role in center this year, so his fantasy value will likely be limited to deep and NL-only leagues. Matt Vierling is expected to split time in center with Herrera. An All-Star back in 2016, Herrera played in 39 games in 2019 due to a suspension and sat out all of 2020 before returning last year to hit .260/.310/.416 with 13 home runs, 51 RBI and six steals in 492 plate appearances over 124 games.

Sun Mar 13 202222:17Odubel Herrera Close To Re-Signing
Free-agent outfielder Odubel Herrera is close to re-signing with the Philadelphia Phillies, according to sources. The 30-year-old played in 124 games with the Phillies last year, with 104 of them coming in center field. If he re-signs, he figures to be at least part of the solution to the team's center field hole in 2022. Rookie Matt Vierling could be half of a platoon situation at the position. He hits right-handed, while Herrera hits from the left side. Herrera has been with the Phillies for the last seven seasons. He was an All-Star in 2016 but was suspended 85 games for violating the league's policy on domestic violence in 2019 and didn't play at all in 2020. Herrera hit .260 with 13 home runs, 51 RBI and a .726 OPS in 2021 and would mainly be an option in deeper leagues if he's platooning back in Philly.

Sat Nov 6 202115:45Phillies Outright Odubel Herrera And Others
The Philadelphia Phillies have outrighted six players off their roster, all of whom have elected free agency. Outfielders Odubel Herrera and Travis Jankowski, infielder Ronald Torreyes, catcher Andrew Knapp, and pitchers J.D. Hammer and Ramon Rosso will all test the market. Of those names, Herrera is the most relevant to fantasy managers, as he slashed .260/.310/.416 with 13 homers and six steals in 492 plate appearances during the 2021 season as the starting center fielder for the team. None of these players are expected to be drafted in 2022 fantasy drafts, but Herrera and Jankowski could each hold relevance if they find playing time at their next landing spots.

Wed Nov 3 202122:26Phillies Decline Options On Andrew McCutchen, Odubel Herrera
The Philadelphia Phillies declined 2022 club options on outfielders Andrew McCutchen ($15 million) and Odubel Herrera ($11.5 million) on Wednesday. McCutchen becomes a free agent, while the Phils retain the rights to Herrera, who is eligible for salary arbitration. They bought the two outfielders out for $3 million and $2.5 million, respectively. McCutchen hit just .222 but had 27 home runs, 80 RBI and a .778 OPS in 574 plate appearances in 2021. With a 1.027 OPS against lefties and a .650 OPS against right-handers, the 35-year-old could be an ideal platoon option at this late stage of his career. Herrera hit .260 with 13 home runs, 51 RBI and a .726 OPS in 492 plate appearances.

Fri Sep 24 202110:02Odubel Herrera Sets The Table For Win Over Pittsburgh
Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Odubel Herrera went 3-for-5 with two runs scored to set the pace for a 12-run outburst versus the Pirates on Thursday. Herrera needed a game like this as he was sporting just a .292 on-base percentage through 19 September games and was in danger of being dropped out of the leadoff spot. On the season, Herrera is slashing .257/.310/.416 with 13 homers, 57 runs, 50 RBI, and six stolen bases as he's been a fringe starter in 12-14 team fantasy leagues. Those looking for help in runs scored can start Herrera as he's got three more good matchups with the Pirates on tap.

Fri Sep 17 202110:05Odubel Herrera Drives In Three In Win Over Cubs
Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Odubel Herrera went 2-for-5 with three RBI, two runs scored, and a walk to help beat the Cubs on Thursday. Herrera drove in a run during a seven-run fourth inning, then came around to score as the Phillies erased a seven-run deficit. He wasn't done there, however, as Herrera belted a two-run double in the seventh to help put the game out of reach for Chicago. It's been rocky at times, but Herrera has put together a nice season batting .257 with a .313 on-base percentage thanks to a minuscule strikeout rate. He's a start-worthy outfielder in fantasy heading into a weekend series with the Mets.

Sun Sep 12 202111:00Odubel Herrera Drives In Two Versus Rockies
Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Odubel Herrera went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a stolen base in a win over the Rockies on Saturday. Herrera is slashing .261/.316/.424 as he's been a solid bottom-of-the-order bat for the Phillies. He won't provide much power, but Herrera has value in deeper fantasy leagues. He's got good matchups versus the Cubs to start the weak making Herrera a sneaky sleeper in leagues where he's available.

Tue Aug 31 202111:06Odubel Herrera Reaches Three Times In Win Over Nats
Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Odubel Herrera went 2-for-4 with a walk and a run scored to help beat the Nationals on Monday night. Herrera is easily posting his best month of the season as he's batting .333 with 13 runs and 13 RBI across 24 games in August thus far. He's been productive atop the Philly order as his career-best strikeout rate and contact rates have led to him being on base plenty for the big bats in the Philly order. Herrera should be started in fantasy leagues while riding this heater, especially with more good matchups versus Washington and Miami on the horizon.

Mon Aug 23 202100:19Odubel Herrera Homers In Four-Hit Game
Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Odubel Herrera had a banner day Sunday, going 4-for-5 from the leadoff spot with a homer, a double, three RBI, and a run scored. It's Herrera's second straight day with a homer, bringing his total to 11 on the season. Herrera has been out of control over the past seven games, slashing .524/.565/1.095 with three homers in 22 plate appearances. He could make for a solid short-term add, especially given that he adds a bit of speed with four steals on the year.

Thu Aug 19 202119:28Odubel Herrera Exits After HBP On Elbow
Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Odubel Herrera (elbow) exited Thursday's game after being hit by a pitch on the elbow, according to Matt Gelb of The Athletic. Herrera was hit on the elbow in the top of the eighth inning, and while he initially remained in the game, he was replaced on defense in the bottom half of the inning. He's been a decent option in deeper formats this year, slashing .250/.307/.411 with nine homers, four steals, 35 RBI and 40 runs scored. Consider him day-to-day for now, and keep an eye out for further updates on his condition later tonight.

Wed Aug 18 202120:04Odubel Herrera Returns To Lineup Wednesday Night
Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Odubel Herrera (ankle) is back in the starting lineup on Wednesday after missing Tuesday's matchup due to a sore ankle. It appears that this was a minor issue for Herrera, as he will now start in center field and lead off against the Diamondbacks. He's had some value in deeper formats this year by slashing .247/.300/.393 with eight homers, four steals, 34 RBI and 38 runs scored, and managers who have him rostered should slot him back into their starting lineups tonight.

Tue Aug 17 202120:35Odubel Herrera Not In Lineup, Dealing With Ankle Injury
Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Odubel Herrera (ankle) is not in the starting lineup on Tuesday night due to soreness in his right ankle, according to Matt Gelb of The Athletic. Gelb reports that Herrera had tested his ankle earlier in the day on Tuesday, and he reported it was feeling sore and the team decided to keep him out of the lineup as a result. Travis Jankowski is getting the start in center field now, and will bat eighth in the order against the Diamondbacks. Herrera has provided some value in deeper formats this year by slashing .247/.300/.393 with eight homers, four steals, 34 RBI and 38 runs scored. Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Odubel Herrera was a late scratch from the starting lineup on Sunday, according to The Athletic. There was no initial report of an injury but stay tuned for more word on the move. Luke Williams is in left field and batting eighth against the New York Mets. Herrera, who is hitting .248 with eight home runs and 34 RBI in 282 at-bats this season, doesn't have much use in fantasy at the moment aside from NL-Only formats or very deep leagues.

Fri Aug 6 202110:48Odubel Herrera Reaches Three Times In Win Versus Nationals
Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Odubel Herrera went 2-for-3 with a walk, an RBI, and a run scored to help the Phillies complete a sweep of the Nationals on Thursday. Herrera has been struggling lately and his on-base percentage is down below .300, so he badly needed a game like this which included belting a double in the ninth to start a four-run rally off of Washington closer Kyle Finnegan. On the season, Herrera is batting just .244 and his .389 slugging percentage is well below what fantasy managers need from a starting outfielder. Herrera doesn't have much use in fantasy at the moment aside from NL-Only formats or very deep leagues.

Sun Aug 1 202117:56Odubel Herrera Drives In Two Versus Pirates
Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Odubel Herrera went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored to help the Phillies demolish the Pirates 15-4 on Sunday. Herrera had been struggling mightily, coming into this game he had just four hits in his last 26 at-bats as his batting average dipped to .234. Herrera was leading off at one point for Philly, but his on-base percentage is an anemic .290 and has been buried eighth in the batting order. He's not much of a fantasy asset at this point, though he could be sneaky in deep leagues with four good matchups versus the Nationals to start the week.
