Belfiore signed a minor league deal with the Orioles on Wednesday, Roch Kubatko of MASN reports.

Belfiore was released by the Tigers last week after struggling to a 5-11 record and 5.60 ERA in 22 starts at Triple-A on the season. The 26-year-old is just a year removed from posting a 3.26 ERA, however, so the Orioles will take a low-risk flyer on Belfiore in hopes of him rediscovering what made him an effective hurler at the Triple-A level in 2014.

The move was made in order to clear room on the 40-man roster for the addition of Joel Hanrahan. Belfiore holds a 5.40 ERA with 14 strikeouts over 11 2/3 frames at Toledo this season.

None of the cuts come as a surprise. Belfiore allowed a run on five hits over his two spring innings. The 25-year-old will provide some depth in the minors.

The move protects him from December's Rule 5 Draft. Belfiore, a 24-year-old reliever, was acquired from the Diamondbacks in May as part of the Josh Bell trade and posted a 2.71 ERA and 78/26 K/BB ratio over 66 1/3 innings this season between High-A and Double-A.
