CHICAGO (AP) — The Cubs avoided arbitration with three of their biggest stars, agreeing to one-year deals with third baseman Kris Bryant, shortstop Javier Báez and catcher Willson Contreras on Friday. Bryant, who struggled through injuries in his worst season, is set to earn $19.5 million. Baez is due $11.65 million and Contreras $6.65 million. The Cubs also agreed to an $8,63 million deal for next season with pitcher Zach Davies, acquired in the trade that sent NL Cy Young Award runner-up Yu Darvish to San Diego. CLEVELAND (AP) — Looking to rebuild their bullpen, the Cleveland Indians signed free agent right-hander Justin Grimm to a minor-league contract.Grimm's deal includes an invitation to training camp where the three-time defending AL Central champions will try to patch together a bullpen missing key components from past seasons.The 30-year-old Grimm has gone 20-23 record 4.98 ERA in 306 games major league games. He's been with Texas, the Chicago cubs, Kansas City and Seattle. Grimm was on Chicago's 2016 postseason roster and appeared in three games against the Indians in the World Series.He recorded at least 50 relief appearances with the Cubs over four straight seasons, pitching in a career-high 73 games in 2014.Grimm split last season between the Kansas City and Seattle organizations. He twice went on the disabled list with the Royals.The Indians lost reliever Andrew Miller as a free agent in the offseason. MILWAUKEE (AP) — The Kansas City Royals have placed reliever Justin Grimm on the 10-day disabled list with a right shoulder injury, filling the right-hander's spot in the bullpen by recalling Jason Adam from Triple-A Omaha.The move, made retroactive to June 24, was announced before the Royals' road game Wednesday against the Milwaukee Brewers. The Royals say Grimm has right shoulder impingement syndrome.Grimm's most recent outing came Saturday, when he allowed a game-winning single to Carlos Correa with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 12th of a 4-3 loss to Houston.Manager Ned Yost says he first heard about Grimm's injury earlier this week.
