RHP Michael Ynoa was outrighted to Triple-A Charlotte. The White Sox designated him for assignment Thursday and he was outrighted after clearing waivers. In 22 games with the White Sox this season, Ynoa went 1-0 with a 5.90 ERA, allowing 28 hits and 22 walks in 29 innings with 23 strikeouts.

Ynoa threw one pitch to a third batter before the injury. He'll be re-evaluated Saturday for the severity of the injury. Ynoa has been a reliable long reliever for the White Sox this season. "We'll have to re-evaluate in the morning, make a decision then," manager Rick Renteria said. But it sounded as though Ynoa will have to go on the 10-day disabled list so the White Sox won't be short in the bullpen.

Ynoa got the ball even though it didn't register to get the souvenir. "When I (struck) out a guy, I didn't know," Ynoa said. "(First baseman Jose) Abreu was yelling, 'Hey, the ball.' I was like what ball, and he was like the ball you struck him out (with)."

RHP Michael Ynoa was demoted to Double-A Birmingham to make room for OF Adam Eaton.

RHP Michael Ynoa was recalled from Double-A Birmingham on Sunday after OF Adam Eaton was placed on the paternity list. Ynoa, 24, is expected to return to the minor leagues when Eaton rejoins the team Monday against the Minnesota Twins. Ynoa pitched one scoreless inning for Birmingham this season before his promotion.

Ynoa left Sunday's game for High-A Winston Salem after one pitch due to an undisclosed injury.

Ynoa was thought to be headed to Double-A, but started on High-A instead. He pitched out of the bullpen in his first appearance and had two scoreless innings.

Ynoa was optioned to Double-A Birmingham on Wednesday.

Ynoa stood little chance of making the White Sox's rotation out of spring training, and that is indeed the case. He will begin the season at Double-A, but a strong start to the season could result in a jump to Triple-A at some point, with the possibility of a bullpen spot in 2016.

General manager Rick Hahn said he could envision Ynoa throwing in the back of the White Sox's bullpen "in the not-too-distant future," the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Ynoa was a secondary piece in the Jeff Samardzija trade, but he is a former top-100 prospect. He was a strikeout machine at High-A in 2014 (12.6 K/9), but he has yet to escape from the lower minors in his four years since signing out of the Dominican Republic. His ascension through the minors could be hastened if the White Sox commit to him as a reliever, and the change in organization could result in mechanical tweaks that gets his command/control issues straightened out. A bullpen role to start 2015 is very unlikely, but he could be around later in the summer or in 2016/17.

The A's traded Ynoa and Jeff Samardzija to the White Sox on Tuesday in exchange for Marcus Semien, Chris Bassitt, Josh Phegley and Rangel Ravelo.

Ynoa received a $4.25 million signing bonus as a 16-year-old in 2008, thanks in large part to a fastball that was then clocked at 92-95 mph, but the right-hander simply hasn't developed as many projected. He's fallen apart with the move up to High-A in recent seasons, posting a 6.21 ERA and 1.54 WHIP, but Ynoa is a decent enough throw-in for Chicago with Samardzija the centerpiece of the deal.
