Sat Feb 1701:21Angels Sign Hunter Strickland To Minor League Deal
The Los Angeles Angels have signed veteran reliever Hunter Strickland to a minor-league deal, the team announced. Strickland, 35, hasn't pitched in the majors since 2022 but will be invited to Spring Training with the Halos. He owns respectable numbers throughout his career, including a 3.93 xFIP, 8.43 K/9, 3.44 BB/9, and 0.94 HR/9. Even if he makes the Opening Day roster, Strickland isn't on the fantasy radar.

Tue May 9 202315:28Reds Release Hunter Strickland
The Cincinnati Reds released relief pitcher Hunter Strickland on Tuesday. Strickland had yet to appear in the big leagues for the Reds this season and was pitching on the farm at Triple-A Louisville, where he had allowed 14 runs on 13 hits (two home runs) while walking 12 and striking out eight in 11 relief innings. The 34-year-old right-hander has 28 career saves in nine major-league seasons, but he'll be looking for work elsewhere now that he's on the open market. In his 66 relief appearances for the Reds in 2022, Strickland had a 4.91 ERA (4.78 FIP), 1.51 WHIP and 21.1 percent strikeout rate in 62 1/3 innings pitched.

Sat Feb 18 202311:06Reds Re-Sign Hunter Strickland To Minor-League Deal
The Cincinnati Reds re-signed relief pitcher Hunter Strickland to a minor-league deal on Saturday. Strickland had seven saves for the Reds last year to go along with a 4.91 ERA (4.78 FIP), 1.51 WHIP, 33 walks and 60 strikeouts in 62 1/3 relief innings. He lost his handle on the closing gig in August due to poor performance, but he'll be back in Cincinnati's bullpen again in 2023. Alexis Diaz figures to open this season as the Reds' primary closer, but Strickland could work his way into a setup role if he pitches well this spring. The signing makes sense with both Tony Santillan and Tejay Antone projected to open the year on the injured list for the Reds.

Wed Aug 10 202217:11Hunter Strickland Removed From Closer's Role
Cincinnati Reds closer Hunter Strickland will be removed from the closer's role after he blew his fourth save of the season in Sunday's win over the Milwaukee Brewers, according to manager David Bell. The skipper said he'll look for different opportunities for Strickland outside of the ninth inning to help him regain his form. Strickland had allowed eight hits and seven runs in his last four innings of work before striking out two in a perfect inning on Wednesday in a 10-2 loss. Bell didn't say exactly who might close out games moving forward, but Alexis Diaz is the best bet for the Reds and fantasy managers in need of saves at this juncture. Diaz has four saves on the year and a great 1.94 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 53 K's in 41 2/3 innings, but searching for saves in Cincinnati won't be a lucrative business in fantasy.

Fri Jul 29 202214:06Hunter Strickland Goes On Bereavement List
The Cincinnati Reds placed closer Hunter Strickland on the bereavement list on Friday and activated left-hander Ross Detwiler (back) and outfielder Jake Fraley (knee, toe) from the injured list in corresponding moves. With Strickland away from the team for the next three to seven days, expect Alexis Diaz to be given any save situations that might arise. Strickland picked up two saves in the last week, but he also blew the save against the Miami Marlins on Thursday by allowing three runs. The 33-year-old right-hander has a 5.70 ERA, 1.59 WHIP, six saves and 30 strikeouts in 36 1/3 innings pitched this season. Strickland is a low-end closing option in fantasy on a bad Reds team.

Tue Jun 14 202208:49Hunter Strickland Nails Down His Second Save On Monday
Cincinnati Reds relief pitcher Hunter Strickland pitched a perfect ninth inning against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday to earn his second save of the year. He retired each of the three batters he faced, striking out one of them. The 33-year-old veteran has had a shaky year out of the pen, pitching to a 5.73 ERA and a 1.86 WHIP over 22 innings. The Reds now have four active relievers with at least two saves. Tony Santillan leads the team with four saves, but he's blown each of his last two save chances, leading to an ugly 5.49 ERA and 1.78 WHIP on the year. There aren't any must-roster Reds relievers at this point. However, if you want to gamble on someone, Alexis Diaz would be your best bet. He saved Sunday's game and also pitched on Saturday so he was unavailable Monday. He's the only member of the Reds' current committee with a sub-5.00 ERA as he has a 2.48 ERA and a 1.00 WHIP on the year.

Wed May 25 202222:18Hunter Strickland Notches First Save On Wednesday
Cincinnati Reds pitcher Hunter Strickland allowed one run on a hit and a walk while striking out across an inning to earn the save during Wednesday's 4-3 win over the Chicago Cubs. The 33-year-old entered Wednesday's contest in the ninth inning to protect a two-run lead. He retired the first batter he faced but hit Patrick Wisdom and walked Alfonso Rivas to put runners on first and second base. The right-hander got Wilson Contreras to line out. Strickland surrendered an RBI single to Nico Hoerner before striking out Christopher Morel to end the game. It was Strickland's first save of the season. Fantasy managers searching for saves could add Strickland with him being the Reds' primary closer while Lucas Sims (back) is sidelined. Overall, Strickland owns a 5.60 ERA, 1.81 WHIP, and 15 strikeouts over 17 1/3 innings in 2022.

Tue Mar 22 202211:07Hunter Strickland Joins Reds
Free-agent relief pitcher Hunter Strickland signed an undisclosed deal with the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday. Strickland pitched for three teams -- Tampa Bay Rays, Los Angeles Angels and Milwaukee Brewers -- in 2021 and had a combined 2.61 ERA and 1.15 WHIP with 58 strikeouts and 22 walks in 58 2/3 relief innings over 57 outings. With Lucas Sims set to open the season on the injured list, the Reds are expected to go with a closer committee to begin the year, and Strickland, who has 21 career saves in eight big-league seasons, could enter that mix alongside the likes of Luis Cessa, Art Warren, Justin Wilson and Jeff Hoffman. It's not exactly pretty in the bullpen for Cincinnati, so fantasy managers may be wise to stay away.

Mon Aug 9 202121:41Hunter Strickland Reinstated From Injured List
Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Hunter Strickland (illness) was reinstated from the COVID-19 injured list Monday. He tested positive for COVID-19 in late July. The 32-year-old cleared MLB protocols and was activated ahead of Monday's game against the Chicago Cubs. Strickland owns a 3.11 ERA, 1.30 WHIP, and a 34:15 K: BB across 37 2/3 innings in 2021. The Brewers right-hander is used in a middle relief role and isn't on the fantasy radar this season. Pitcher Blaine Hardy was optioned to Triple-A Nashville in a corresponding move.

He didn’t allow a hit until Manny Machado doubled with one out in the fourth. The Padres tied it 1-all in the fourth when Jake Cronenworth was hit by a pitch, advanced to third on Machado’s double and scored on Tommy Pham’s sacrifice fly.
