Kansas City Royals designated hitter Kendrys Morales drew a one-game suspension and undisclosed fine for his actions during Tuesday's game, Major League Baseball announced Thursday.Morales returned to the field after he was ejected during the ninth inning of the contest between the Royals and Tampa Bay Rays.Morales appealed the suspension and was eligible to play in Thursday's game against Tampa Bay. The Royals listed him in the starting lineup.Morales is hitting .242 with 17 homers and 50 RBIs this season.--The Pittsburgh Pirates recalled veteran right-hander Ryan Vogelsong from his rehabilitation assignment with Triple-A Indianapolis to start Thursday's game versus the Atlanta Braves. Infielder Max Moroff was optioned to Indianapolis to open a roster spot for Vogelsong, who is returning to the mound after getting hit in the face by a fastball that caused multiple facial fractures and required surgery. He last pitched on May 23.--The Texas Rangers activated veteran outfielder Shin-Soo Choo from the 15-day disabled list prior to Thursday's game against the host Baltimore Orioles.Left-hander Dario Alvarez was optioned to Triple-A Round Rock to free up a spot for Choo, who is expected to bat in the leadoff position in the series finale versus the Orioles.--The New York Yankees recalled Johnny Barbato from Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and optioned fellow right-hander Chad Green to the Triple-A club.Barbato posted a 1-2 mark with a 5.54 ERA in 12 appearances with the Yankees earlier this season.Green struggled mightily in his start versus the New York Mets on Wednesday, allowing three runs on eight hits with four walks in 3 2/3 innings. --The Cleveland Indians recalled right-hander Mike Clevinger and left-hander Ryan Merritt from Triple-A Columbus, the club announced .The Indians optioned right-handers Cody Anderson and Shawn Armstrong to the Clippers to open up the roster spots.Clevinger is 0-1 with a 6.97 ERA in five appearances (four starts) with Cleveland this season. He was the Indians' starting pitcher Thursday but did not get a decision.--Cincinnati Reds shortstop Zack Cozart missed his third straight start with a bruised right ring finger but is expected back on Friday. --Detroit Tigers center fielder Cameron Maybin was not in the lineup after suffering a mildly sprained left thumb diving for a ball on Wednesday. Maybin underwent X-rays and an ultrasound, which revealed no tissue damage. -- The Philadelphia Phillies optioned Wednesday's starter, Phil Klein, back to Triple-A Lehigh Valley and recalled LHP Elvis Araujo. --After contemplating transitioning pitcher Aaron Sanchez to the bullpen, the Toronto Blue Jays instead opted to utilize a six-man rotation through the end of this month.--Blue Jays shortstop Troy Tulowitzki was back in the starting lineup after missing the first three games of the series with a chip fracture in his right thumb. --New York Mets manager Terry Collins gave a terse 276-word response when discussing any connections between OF Yoenis Cespedes landing on the disabled list with a strained right quadriceps and his golf game. Collins interrupted two questions and emphatically answered another by saying that golf didn't cause the injury.To replace Cespedes on the roster, the Mets recalled outfielder Brandon Nimmo.
