The Oakland Athletics placed right-hander Paul Blackburn on the 10-day disabled list Friday with a right hand contusion.Blackburn, 23, left Tuesday night's start in the fifth inning against the Baltimore Orioles after a liner struck him on the right wrist. The Oakland Athletics recalled recently acquired outfielder Boog Powell from Triple-A Nashville on Friday.The Athletics also recalled right-hander Michael Brady from Nashville while optioning outfielders Jaycob Brugman and Mark Canha to the same club.Powell was acquired on Sunday in the deal that sent All-Star first baseman Yonder Alonso to the Seattle Mariners. The 24-year-old had a major league stint with the Mariners earlier this season but batted just .194 in 23 games.Powell hit .340 in 58 games at Triple-A Tacoma prior to the trade. The left-handed hitter was 4-for-16 in three games for Nashville.Brady is beginning his third stint of the season with the Athletics. Angels sent RHP Michael Brady outright to Triple-A Salt Lake.

The veteran right-hander has already been pitching at Salt Lake, this move just removes him from the 40-man roster. In 26 1/3 innings this season he has posted a troublesome 7.18 ERA, 1.75 WHIP and 23/13 K/BB ratio.

Brady is 27 and has never pitched above Double-A, but it's hard to argue with the results he's put up. The right-hander boasts a 2.18 ERA and 225/31 K/BB ratio over 198 career relief innings in the minors. He's worth a shot by the Angels.
