The Texas Rangers have signed right-handers Shane Greene and Austin Pruitt to minor-league deals with invites to big-league spring training. Greene, 35, made just a pair of relief outings in each of the last two MLB seasons and spent the 2023 season in the Cubs organization, tossing a 1.75 ERA (alongside a 4.12 FIP) across nine outings (seven starts) with Triple-A Iowa. He sports a career 4.50 ERA across 345 MLB outings (33 starts) between the Yankees, Tigers, Braves, Dodgers, and Cubs. Pruitt, 34, enjoyed a nice season largely out of the A's bullpen in 2023, tossing a 2.98 ERA across 38 appearances (six starts. The veteran has worked to a 4.43 career ERA in 150 big-league outings (17 starts) with the Rays, Astros, Marlins, and A's.

The Chicago Cubs are promoting veteran right-hander Shane Greene when rosters expand on Friday. The 34-year-old has been starting at Triple-A Iowa, according to sources, but he hasn't started a major-league game since 2016. Since then, he's picked up 67 saves in the majors, mostly with the Detroit Tigers. Greene last appeared in the big leagues in 2022 with the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees, but he only threw three innings and allowed two earned runs. Overall, he had a career-high 7.23 ERA and 1.65 WHIP while notching one save in 23 2/3 relief innings over 28 appearances. The veteran right-hander had 32 saves back in 2018 with the Detroit Tigers and was an All-Star in 2019 when he had 23 saves for the Tigers and Braves, but the 33-year-old will be looking to merely bounce back if he makes the Dodgers bullpen in 2022. Greene won't be in the mix for saves if he's in the major leagues, making him one to avoid in fantasy.

He wasn't horrible out of the pen for the team, posting a 4.05 ERA and a 1.20 WHIP over 6.2 innings, but the Dodgers didn't have much of a need for him going forward. Greene was solid in a setup role for the Atlanta Braves last year, pitching to a 2.60 ERA and a 1.12 WHIP while tallying nine holds. We might not see him in the majors again this year, but you can safely expect for a bullpen-needy team to approach him at some point next year.
