Mon Nov 6 202314:44Stephen Vogt Hired To Manage Guardians
The Cleveland Guardians have hired Stephen Vogt as the 45th manager in franchise history. The former big-league backstop replaces Terry Francona who managed the club for 11 seasons before stepping down due to a lengthy battle with health issues. Vogt, 39, played 794 MLB games as a catcher and hit .239 with 82 home runs in that time with the Rays, A's, Brewers, Giants, D-backs, and Braves. He last appeared with the A's as recently as the 2022 season. He will be tasked with turning around a Guardians club that struggled last season, finishing with a 76-86 record, good for third place in the AL Central and 11 games back of the first-place Minnesota Twins. The Guardians reached the ALDS in the 2022 season, bowing out to the Yankees in five games.

Thu Sep 22 202212:12Stephen Vogt To Retire After The Season
Oakland Athletics catcher Stephen Vogt announced that he will retire from professional baseball after this season. Vogt will retire a 10-year veteran (six seasons with the A's) in which he was a two-time All-Star. The 37-year-old played for the A's, Rays, Diamondbacks, Giants, Braves and Brewers during his career. Vogt currently has a .239/.302/.406 slash line with 81 home runs, 309 RBI, 256 runs scored and five stolen bases in his 784 career games. He made the All-Star team in back-to-back seasons in 2015 and 2016 with Oakland, and he hit a career-high 18 home runs while driving in 71 runs in 2015.

Tue Jun 7 202214:29A's Reinstate Stephen Vogt From Injured List
The Oakland Athletics reinstated catcher Stephen Vogt (knee) from the injured list on Tuesday and called up infielder Matt Davidson from Triple-A Las Vegas. In corresponding moves, Sheldon Neuse was optioned to the minors and reliever Parker Markel was designated for assignment. Vogt was out with a sprained right knee since late April, and he went 1-for-14 with a solo home run in six games before his injury. The 37-year-old veteran backstop should help back up Sean Murphy for the A's and has extremely limited fantasy appeal at this point of his career.

Thu Apr 21 202214:27A's Put Stephen Vogt On Injured List
The Oakland Athletics placed veteran catcher Stephen Vogt (knee) on the 10-day injured list on Thursday and reinstated catcher Austin Allen from the COVID-19 list in a corresponding move. The A's also designated Miguel Romero for assignment and removed the substitute player designation from Christian Bethancourt. Vogt is dealing with a Grade 2 sprain in his right knee and will need to take some time off the field to recover. The 37-year-old suffered his knee injury on Wednesday against the Baltimore Orioles and doesn't have a timetable for a return. Allen will back up Sean Murphy with Vogt sidelined. Vogt had just one hit in 14 at-bats over six games and wasn't much of a fantasy option to begin with.

Wed Apr 20 202222:00Stephen Vogt Suffers Knee Sprain
Oakland Athletics catcher Stephen Vogt (knee) sustained a sprained right knee during Wednesday's 1-0 loss to the Baltimore Orioles. He went 0-for-3 with a strikeout before exiting. The severity of his injury is unknown at this time, and he's considered day-to-day. The 37-year-old is off to a slow start after hitting .071 with a homer over seven games in 2022. Vogt isn't a fantasy catching option outside of the deepest two-catcher leagues, even if he avoids a trip to the injured list.

Wed Mar 23 202222:12Stephen Vogt Signs With The Athletics
Free-agent catcher Stephen Vogt signed with the Oakland A's on Wednesday. The 37-year-old rejoins the Athletics, where he spent most of his career from 2013-2017 in Oakland and was named a two-time All-Star. He underwent sports hernia surgery in mid-October but is expected to fully recover before Opening Day. Vogt will serve as the backup for Sean Murphy after slashing .195/.283/.333 with seven home runs, 25 RBI, and 24 runs scored over 78 games for the Diamondbacks/Braves in 2021. The veteran isn't much of a fantasy option outside the deepest leagues in 2022.

Tue Oct 12 202116:39Stephen Vogt Undergoes Sports Hernia Surgery
Atlanta Braves catcher Stephen Vogt (sports hernia) underwent surgery for a sports hernia, the team reports. The 36-year-old veteran had been sidelined since early September. He was originally placed on the injured list with a designation of hip inflammation. The Braves announced that they expect for him to be ready for Spring Training next year. He was acquired by the Braves in a trade with the Arizona Diamondbacks in July as the Braves were looking for help to fill in for an injured Travis d'Arnaud. Vogt went on to slash just .167/.241/.244 over 26 games with the team. He'll have a chance to compete for a backup catcher role in Atlanta next year.

Wed Sep 15 202100:57Stephen Vogt Could Miss The Rest Of The Season
Atlanta Braves catcher Stephen Vogt (hip) was recently placed on the 10-day injured list. On Tuesday, manager Brian Snitker mentioned that Vogt is questionable to return to the field this season. The 37-year-old is dealing with hip inflammation and the team doesn't want to rush him back on the field. Vogt crushed two home runs during the game where he suffered his injury. However, he wasn't much of a fantasy option before that contest. Travis d'Arnaud should continue getting a majority of the starts behind the plate in Atlanta.

Fri Sep 10 202113:44Stephen Vogt To Injured List, William Contreras Recalled
Atlanta Braves catcher Stephen Vogt (hip) has been placed on the 10-day injured list. He put together a two-homer game on Thursday. Sadly, he exited in the middle of the game due to a hip issue. The team is going to play it safe with their veteran catcher. He'll be placed on the injured list, while William Contreras joins the active roster. The 23-year-old should get some action alongside Travis d'Arnaud. Neither is a great fantasy option, but d'Arnaud is worth snagging for fantasy managers in desperate need of catcher production.

Fri Sep 10 202111:44Stephen Vogt Exits Due To Injury
Atlanta Braves catcher Stephen Vogt (hip) was unable to get through Thursday's game against the Washington Nationals. It's a shame considering Vogt hit two home runs in the game. Sadly, the 36-year-old was pulled out due to his hip bothering him. Hopefully, Vogt is able to avoid the injured list. In the meantime, Travis d'Arnaud should get more playing time behind the plate. Vogt wasn't much of a fantasy option before this, but his two home run game helped Atlanta win on Thursday.

Wed Jul 28 202122:54Brewers add All-Star 3B Escobar in trade with Diamondbacks
PHOENIX (AP) — The Milwaukee Brewers acquired All-Star third baseman Eduardo Escobar from the Arizona Diamondbacks on Wednesday for two prospects. The 32-year-old Escobar made his first All-Star game this season and is batting .246 with 22 homers. The switch-hitter should be a valuable and versatile piece for the first-place Brewers, who are trying to lock down the NL Central. “We’re talking about a very accomplished switch-hitter," said David Stearns, Milwaukee's president of baseball operations. “He’s got tremendous positional versatility, can play all over the field, infield and outfield. "He gives us a lot of options, and one of the things that we are trying to accomplish prior to the (trade deadline) is preparing ourselves for the unknown of what could happen over the next two months.” Milwaukee could use some extra pop in the lineup, especially in the coming weeks. Star outfielder Christian Yelich recently went on the COVID-19 injured list and is expected to miss at least another... [More]

Star outfielder Christian Yelich recently went on the COVID-19 injured list and is expected to miss at least another week. Escobar said it was tough to leave Arizona, where he had career highs with 35 homers and 118 RBIs in 2019, but it was exciting to have an opportunity to be in the postseason hunt. “I love this team. I have really good people here, really good friends,” Escobar said of the Diamondbacks. “But at the end of the day, it’s a new opportunity for me. I’m so happy that the organization in Milwaukee is giving me an opportunity... [More]

Escobar has played third, second and shortstop for the Diamondbacks this season and has played the outfield earlier in his career. He was one of the few bright spots for Arizona this season, which has MLB's worst record at 31-71 going into Wednesday. “We’re happy with the two players we got from the Brewers,” Arizona general manager Mike Hazen said. “I think anytime we’re trading someone like Eduardo off our team it’s certainly... Mon Jul 19 202103:11White Sox rebound against Astros in possible playoff preview
In a matchup between two of the American League's top teams, Lucas Giolito and Carlos Rodn helped the Chicago White Sox fight back against Houston's powerful offense. Giolito pitched a three-hitter in Chicago's 10-1 victory Saturday, then Rodn allowed one hit in seven innings Sunday as the White Sox blanked Houston 4-0. Those two victories came after the Astros swept a four-game series against the White Sox last month and beat Chicago 7-1 on Friday night. The White Sox (56-36) now have the best record in the American League, and they lead the AL Central by eight games. Houston (56-38) has a 3 1/2-game advantage atop the AL West. The Astros lead the major leagues in runs despite Alex Bregman's injury problems and George Springer's offseason departure. Houston finished the 2020 regular season with a sub-.500 record but still came within a victory of reaching the World Series thanks to the expanded playoffs. The Astros again look formidable this year. If they face Chicago in the playoffs,... [More]

WASHINGTON (AP) — Alcides Escobar homered in the eighth inning and hit a winning single in the ninth Sunday as the Washington Nationals wrapped up a disturbing weekend with an 8-7 win over the San Diego Padres. Tres Barrera singled off Mark Melancon (2-2) with one out in the ninth and, after failing on a bunt attempt, Victor Robles was hit by pitch. Escobar hit a flyball that center fielder Trent Grisham couldn’t corral and Barrera scored. Brad Hand (5-2) earned the victory. Juan Soto joined Josh Harrison with three hits and added a two-run homer. Manny Machado, Eric Hosmer and Jackson Profar homered for the Padres. Sat Jul 17 202105:41LEADING OFF: Lindor hurt, Red Sox dominating depleted Yanks
A look at what's happening around the majors today: SHORT STORY The first-place Mets are waiting for news on Francisco Lindor, who left Friday night's heated 4-1 loss in Pittsburgh with soreness on his right side. New York manager Luis Rojas had no further update after the game other than to say the star shortstop would be examined in the morning. Lindor winced after grounding out to second base in the fifth inning. The four-time All-Star took a few steps out of the batter’s box but then peeled off toward the Mets’ dugout on the first base side. In his first season with the Mets after being acquired from Cleveland in a January trade, Lindor is hitting .228 with 11 home runs in 88 games. He agreed to a $341 million, 10-year contract just before opening day. PITCHING A SHUTOUT Nathan Eovaldi (9-5, 3.66 ERA) and the Boston Red Sox try to improve to 8-0 against the rival New York Yankees this season when they face Gerrit Cole (9-4, 2.68) in a prime-time matchup of AL All-Stars in the Bronx.... Sat Jul 17 202103:41Braves swing another deal, get catcher Vogt from Arizona
ATLANTA (AP) — Trying to fill another injury hole with a trade, the Atlanta Braves acquired veteran catcher Stephen Vogt from the Arizona Diamondbacks late Friday night for minor league first baseman Mason Berne. The 36-year-old Vogt, a two-time All-Star with Oakland, batted .212 with five homers and 17 RBIs in 52 games for the major league-worst Diamondbacks this season. He has thrown out 10 of 30 runners attempting to steal. The move came one night after the depleted Braves obtained Joc Pederson in a trade with the Chicago Cubs, bolstering their outfield after recently losing star slugger Ronald Acuña Jr. to a season-ending knee injury. Atlanta, hoping to chase down the New York Mets and win its fourth straight NL East title, has struggled to replace injured catcher Travis d'Arnaud with the likes of Kevan Smith, William Contreras and Jonathan Lucroy. Following a big 2020 season, d'Arnaud has played only 23 games this year and is on the 60-day injured list with torn ligaments in his left... [More]

He's been progressing but is not expected back until next month. The third-place Braves (44-46) are four games behind the NL East-leading Mets, with Philadelphia (45-45) in between. Berne, 25, was 3 for 12 (.250) with a home run in five games in the low minors with the FCL Braves this season. ___ More AP MLB: https://apnews.com/hub/MLB and https://twitter.com/AP_Sports
