RHP Alex Meyer will undergo surgery Tuesday to repair a labral tear in his right shoulder, according to Angels general manager Billy Eppler. Meyer, 27, has been sidelined since July 19, when he beat the Washington Nationals by tossing seven scoreless innings of one-hit ball. He went on the disabled list six days later. Eppler said Meyer discussed his options with team physicians before deciding to have the surgical procedure, which will be performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache. Meyer finishes the season with a 4-5 record and 3.74 ERA in 13 starts.

RHP Alex Meyer, who has been on the disabled list since July 24 with inflammation in his right shoulder, suffered a recent setback in his throwing program, manager Mike Scioscia said. "He had a little bit of inflammation that creeped back in," Scioscia said. "We're quieting it down. He's doing much better, though. He's close."

RHP Alex Meyer was called up from Triple-A Salt Lake on Wednesday and started against the Washington Nationals. He had the best game of his short career, throwing a career-high seven scoreless innings while allowing just one hit -- a two-out double in the sixth inning by Nationals CF Brian Goodwin. "With Alex, we've seen him start off where he struggles and all of a sudden finds it and gets through six," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. "Or we see him start off lighting it up and then all of a sudden hits a bump in the road. What we're experiencing is those bumps in the road aren't as high anymore. He'll be able to manage the game, and that's going to be a big part of his growth."

RHP Alex Meyer is expected to be recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake City to start Wednesday's game against Washington. He is 3-5 with a 4.18 ERA in 12 starts. He had two quality starts against Kansas City (six innings, two hits, no runs, nine strikeouts) and the L.A. Dodgers (six innings, one hit, no runs) but also a couple of sour starts that led the club to send him to Salt Lake City to work on mechanical issues. The All-Star break and early second-half off-days allowed the Angels to use a four-man rotation until this week.

RHP Alex Meyer was optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake before Tuesday's game and the Angels recalled reliever Mike Morin. Meyer started Monday and gave up five runs in five innings. Manager Mike Scioscia said the team didn't need a fifth starter because of upcoming off days. Scioscia also indicated the trip to the minors will give Meyer a chance to work on "some things." Meyer was 3-5 with a 4.18 ERA with Los Angeles this season.
Tue Jul 4 201704:49RHP Alex Meyer (3-5) again ran into control issues
RHP Alex Meyer (3-5) again ran into control issues. He made it through five innings on Monday in Minnesota but surrendered five runs on six hits and four walks. He also hit a batter to go with six strikeouts. Meyer balked in the first run of the game after flexing his left knee before turning and throwing to first base. On the next pitch, Joe Mauer connected for a two-run homer. All five of Meyer's losses this season have been on the road and he's walked at least four batters in seven of his 12 starts.

RHP Alex Meyer gave up just one hit over six scoreless innings Wednesday against the Dodgers in a 3-2 Angels win. However, Meyer, who got a no-decision, walked five batters in the first three innings and ran his pitch count to 69. He settled in over the next three innings, coming out after a 99-pitch effort. "Alex was on the edge early," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. "He struggled. That was an extreme effort for him to get through six innings. He made some big pitches to get out of a couple innings early, but he found his release point and finished strong through the sixth and gave us a chance to win. It's all you can ask for."

RHP Alex Meyer lasted just 3 1/3 innings and suffered the loss in Friday night's game at Fenway Park. Meyer, who threw six shutout innings in his previous start, walked two and wild-pitched two runs home in a three-run first inning and then settled down some before four straight hits, including a two-run homer by Hanley Ramirez, chased him in the fourth. "It's unacceptable," said Meyer. You can't go out there and put two guys on before basically the game starts. (I) just put them on first and second (with walks). It's frustrating and there's not much more to say than that. The first inning was just not acceptable."

RHP Alex Meyer will look to build off his best start as a big leaguer when he takes the mound for the Angels on Friday night in the opener of a three-game series against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park. Meyer earned the win Saturday, when he allowed two hits and one walk while striking out nine over six shutout innings as the Angels beat the Kansas City Royals 9-0. It was the first time in 15 career starts Meyer has thrown six scoreless innings. Meyer is 1-1 with a 1.19 ERA in four starts this month, a stretch in which he's struck out 27 in 22 2/3 innings and lowered his overall ERA from 5.79 to 3.52. He has never faced the Red Sox.

RHP Alex Meyer has had six consecutive good starts for the Angels and has grabbed a place in the rotation on a team whose crew has been in flux all season, with three anticipated starters (Tyler Skaggs, Garrett Richards and Andrew Heaney) injured and Jesse Chavez and JC Ramirez having moved from the bullpen to the rotation. Meyer has a 1.91 ERA in his last six starts after allowing two hits in six shutout innings Saturday in a win over Kansas City. Meyer is 6-foot-9 and manager Mike Scioscia agrees that it sometimes takes taller pitchers longer to find consistency. ``The body parts are the same but the levers are longer,'' Scioscia said. ``It's tougher to find and keep your timing, like a hitter who has a long swing.'' Meyer said a chat he had with Richards about his approach with his fastball helped Saturday.
Sat Jun 17 201703:54RHP Alex Meyer will start Saturday against Royals
RHP Alex Meyer will start Saturday against the Royals. Meyer gave up two runs and five hits in his last start Monday against the Yankees but lasted only 4 2/3 innings because of a high pitch count (93). He did have five strikeouts, including Yankees RF Aaron Judge twice. "I've seen him in the minor leagues," Judge said. "He's a great guy, electric stuff as well. A fastball with good two-seam action and a wipeout slider. A guy like that you have to focus on location or pick out a pitch and stick to it. He's good, really good." Meyer has never faced the Royals.

RHP Alex Meyer gave up two runs and five hits in 4 2/3 innings, but he also walked five batters, which led to an early exit from the game. He made 93 pitches and gave up RBI singles to Didi Gregorius in both the third and fifth innings, both coming with two out. "Just when it looks like he's on the verge of getting over that hump and finding it, much like a lot of power pitchers, he just was not able to get back in that zone and make some pitches," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. "They had a lot of traffic early, he almost got out of some stuff, but 4 2/3 innings and 90-something pitches, that's a lot of work, that's a heavy day."
Thu Jun 8 201704:11RHP Alex Meyer took hard-luck loss on Wednesday at Detroit
RHP Alex Meyer took a hard-luck loss on Wednesday at Detroit. He gave up just one unearned run on three hits while striking out a career-high nine batters. Meyer had a similar outing against the Tigers on May 14 in Anaheim, holding them to one run in 5 1/3 innings while notching his second victory. "Alex had good stuff," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. "His command wavered a little bit, four walks in six innings. But he was making pitches and putting guys away."

RHP Alex Meyer, who had been on the disabled list due to back spasms, was activated Thursday and made a strong start against the Twins. He allowed one run on five hits in six-plus innings. Meyer struck out four and walked two in a no-decision.
Thu Jun 1 201703:34RHP Alex Meyer will start Thursday against Twins
RHP Alex Meyer will start Thursday against the Twins. Meyer has been on the disabled list with back spasms that were considered minor. Meyer is 2-2 with a 5.79 ERA in five starts for the Angels this season, but his start on May 14 against the Tigers helped those in the Angels organization keep the faith in their 6-foot-9 right-hander. In that game, he gave up one run and three hits in 6 1/3 innings to get the victory. The start for Meyer will be against the team that drafted him and traded him to the Angels, so he has never faced them before.
Thu May 25 201711:46Angels recall RHP Wright to make spot start vs. Rays

Wright threw five scoreless innings in an April 23 spot start against the Toronto Blue Jays."Daniel came up and pitched a good game for us in his start against Toronto," Los Angeles manager Mike Scioscia said via MLB.com.
