Thu Mar 2819:41Eduardo Rodriguez Could Throw Off Mound In 5-7 Days
Arizona Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said that left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez (shoulder) could throw off a mound within the next five to seven days. Lovullo called Rodriguez's progress so far "very encouraging." A strained left shoulder landed E-Rod on the injured list to begin the year in his first season with Arizona, but it's looking like he may not be out for long. Still, there's a good chance that the 30-year-old veteran southpaw will miss most, if not all, of April. His injury allowed both Tommy Henry and Ryne Nelson to make the club's Opening Day roster, although the Snakes also recently added lefty Jordan Montgomery in free agency. After fortunately posting career-bests in ERA (3.30) and WHIP (1.15) in 2023 with the Detroit Tigers, fantasy managers should be expecting some regression from the oft-injured Rodriguez.

Wed Mar 2719:55Eduardo Rodriguez Starts Throwing Program
Arizona Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said that left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez (late) started his throwing program on Tuesday and appears to be ahead of schedule. Rodriguez threw from 60 feet on Tuesday, which was the first time he had done any throwing since suffering a left-lat strain in spring training on March 19. The 30-year-old veteran southpaw is still going to start his first year in Arizona on the injured list, but his stay there may not end up being a lengthy one. In any event, the Snakes still felt the need to add lefty Jordan Montgomery to their rotation on Tuesday. E-Rod had career-highs in ERA (3.30) and WHIP (1.15) in his final year in Detroit in 2023, but fantasy managers should be expecting regression from an injury-prone pitcher that has exceeded 160 innings just once in his eight major-league seasons.

Fri Mar 2215:23Eduardo Rodriguez Will Open On Injured List
Arizona Diamondbacks left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez (lat) has a left-lat strain and is going to be shut down from throwing, according to manager Torey Lovullo. Rodriguez will open the regular season next week on the injured list. The 30-year-old veteran southpaw left his Cactus League outing early on Tuesday with the lat injury and will now unsurprisingly not be ready for Opening Day next Thursday. E-Rod put up some career-best numbers in his final season with the Detroit Tigers in 2023 but was pretty fortunate to do so. The Venezuelan hurler has thrown over 160 innings just once in his eight major-league seasons, so fantasy managers shouldn't be super surprised that he's already injured to begin the 2024 campaign. At best, he's a stash candidate in deep-mixed leagues for rotation depth, but Rodriguez's durability issues aren't going away.

Wed Mar 2017:23Eduardo Rodriguez Still Feeling Tightness, May Undergo MRI
Arizona Diamondbacks left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez (lat) was still feeling some tightness in his left lat on Wednesday after being pulled from his Cactus League outing on Tuesday night, although the tightness wasn't as bad as Tuesday evening, according to manager Torey Lovullo. The D-backs have talked about the possibility of having Rodriguez undergo an MRI exam. The 30-year-old southpaw will probably go for an MRI if he's still feeling tightness in his lat on Thursday, and his availability for Opening Day is certainly up in the air right now. E-Rod managed career-highs in ERA (3.30) and WHIP (1.15) in 26 starts for the Detroit Tigers in 2023, but regression is likely coming for a pitcher that has had plenty of durability issues in his career -- he's gone over 160 innings pitched in one of his eight big-league seasons.

Tue Mar 1922:43Eduardo Rodriguez Exits Game Early With Lat Tightness
Arizona Diamondbacks left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez (lat) was removed from his Cactus League start against the Chicago Cubs after one inning on Tuesday due to left-lat tightness. Lat injuries usually are bad news for pitchers, but we'll have to wait and see what the Diamondbacks say about E-Rod's status on Wednesday. But with Opening Day just nine days away, the 30-year-old is now in danger of having to miss his first turn through the team's starting rotation. The Venezuelan hurler isn't a stranger to injuries in his career, as he's exceeded 160 innings just once in eight big-league campaigns. He's coming off career-bests in ERA (3.30) and WHIP (1.15) in 26 starts for the Detroit Tigers in 2023 while striking out 143 hitters in 152 innings, but regression should be expected, especially in a tougher division and if he's forced to start the year on the injured list.

Thu Feb 2217:37Eduardo Rodriguez Won't Make Spring Debut Friday
Instead of making his Cactus League debut on Friday, Arizona Diamondbacks left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez will throw live batting practice on a back field. Left-hander Tommy Henry will make the start in the spring training game on Friday against the Colorado Rockies in Rodriguez's place. There's nothing physically wrong with Rodriguez, but he'll get a little more work on the back fields before making his spring debut this year. The 30-year-old veteran southpaw joined the D-backs in free agency this offseason after a career-best 3.30 ERA and 1.15 WHIP with the Detroit Tigers while adding 143 strikeouts and 48 walks over 152 innings. Fantasy managers are going to want to expect some regression, especially since E-Rod has gone over 160 innings just once in his eight big-league seasons.

Wed Feb 2118:07Eduardo Rodriguez To Start Cactus League Opener
Arizona Diamondbacks left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez will start the team's Cactus League opener on Friday against the Colorado Rockies, according to manager Torey Lovullo. The Diamondbacks added Rodriguez to their starting rotation in the offseason by signing him to a four-year, $74 million deal in free agency, and he'll slot in behind Zac Gallen and Merrill Kelly as the club's No. 3 starter. The 30-year-old veteran southpaw went 13-9 with a career-best 3.30 ERA (3.66 FIP) and career-best 1.15 WHIP with 48 walks and 143 strikeouts in 26 starts covering 152 2/3 innings in 2023 in his second year with the Detroit Tigers. His 4.04 xERA indicates he was a bit lucky, though, and E-Rod allowed plenty of hard contact. Rodriguez will be moving to a much tougher division and is a bit of an injury risk, so fantasy managers should look to target him as more of a No. 4 starter in 2024 drafts.

Wed Dec 6 202323:48Eduardo Rodriguez Agrees To Four-Year Deal With Diamondbacks
Free-agent left-handed starter Eduardo Rodriguez and the Arizona Diamondbacks agreed to a four-year contract for around $20 million per year on Wednesday night, pending a physical, according to sources familiar with the agreement. E-Rod became a free agent this winter after opting out of the final three years of his contract with the Detroit Tigers. In need of more pitching help for their rotation next to Zac Gallen and Merrill Kelly, the 30-year-old Rodriguez will be a big upgrade after he posted a career-best 3.30 ERA and 1.15 WHIP with a 23% strikeout rate and 7.7% walk rate in 26 starts in 2023. E-Rod comes with durability concerns -- he's reached the 200-inning mark just once in eight big-league seasons -- but when he's healthy, he should be solid mid-rotation fantasy starter in his new home in the desert.

Wed Dec 6 202322:25Diamondbacks Are Finalists To Land Eduardo Rodriguez
Free-agent left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez and the Arizona Diamondbacks have had advanced discussions about a multi-year contract, according to a source. No deal is finalized, but the reigning National League champions are among the finalists to sign him this week. It was reported earlier on Wednesday that E-Rod was down to two teams and that he was expected to make a decision by Thursday. As the D-backs try to upgrade their starting rotation, they've been linked to Rodriguez, Lucas Giolito, Seth Lugo and Michael Wacha in free agency. Rodriguez, general manager Mike Hazen and Arizona manager Torey Lovullo all spent two years together with the Boston Red Sox. The 30-year-old Rodriguez opted out of the final three years of his five-year deal with the Detroit Tigers and is one of the most attractive left-handed starters on the open market this winter.

Wed Dec 6 202314:29Eduardo Rodriguez Expected To Have Decision By Thursday
Free-agent pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez met with clubs at the Winter Meetings and is reportedly down to two teams, with a decision expected by Thursday. The left-hander became a free agent after opting out of his contract with the Detroit Tigers following the 2023 season. Rodriguez spent two seasons in Detroit, and while his 2022 campaign was limited due to injury and personal matters, he bounced back with a 3.30 ERA across 26 starts in the 2023 season. An eight-year MLB veteran, E-Rod has posted a career 4.03 ERA through 202 appearances (196 starts) between the Tigers and Boston Red Sox.

Tue Dec 5 202313:25Eduardo Rodriguez's Market Moving Quickly
Free-agent left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez's market is moving quickly this offseason, and he could reach a decision during the winter meetings this week before two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani picks his next team. Rodriguez is in Nashville, Tennessee, at the winter meetings this week and has had multiple in-person meetings with interested teams. The 30-year-old southpaw became a free agent when he opted out of his contract with the Detroit Tigers, despite blocking a trade in August to go to the Los Angeles Dodgers. E-Rod surely has plenty of suitors this winter after posting a strong 3.30 ERA and 1.15 WHIP with 143 strikeouts over 152 2/3 innings in Detroit in 2023. If he moves to a contending team, he'll be even more attractive to fantasy managers in 2024 and beyond.

Sat Nov 4 202313:14Tigers Could Restructure Eduardo Rodriguez's Contract
The Detroit Tigers and left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez's agent remained in talks on Friday about potentially restructuring his client's contract, according to a source. Rodriguez has a Saturday deadline to exercise his opt-out clause for the 2024 season. E-Rod turned down a midseason trade to the Los Angeles Dodgers and clearly would prefer to keep his family in Detroit, so the two sides could work something out this weekend. If he chooses to opt out of the remaining three years and $49 million left on his contract with the team, the 30-year-old southpaw would surely be able to land more on the open market as a coveted starting pitcher. The Venezuelan hurler went 13-9 on a bad Tigers team in 2023 with a career-best 3.30 ERA (3.66 FIP), 1.15 WHIP, 48 walks and 143 strikeouts in 152 2/3 frames over 26 starts in his second year with the Tigers.

Fri Sep 22 202301:11Eduardo Rodriguez To Throw Bullpen Friday
Detroit Tigers left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez (back), who was removed from his last start with a left-back spasm, will throw a bullpen session on Friday to make sure he can start on Sunday against the Oakland Athletics. "We're not anticipating any problems," manager A.J. Hinch said. While pitching through injury on Sept. 18 against the first-place Los Angeles Dodgers, E-Rod allowed five earned runs on five hits (two homers) while walking one and striking out one in just three innings of work. The 30-year-old Venezuelan southpaw will be a little more risky in fantasy coming off the injury, but managers cannot pass up the excellent matchup against the rebuilding A's if they are still vying for a fantasy title.

Wed Sep 20 202321:21Eduardo Rodriguez Expected To Start Sunday
Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez (shoulder) is the probable starter for Sunday against the Oakland Athletics. Rodriguez left Monday's start early, but he appears ready to take the rubber at least once more this season. It's an enticing matchup for Rodriguez and his fantasy managers, but the Tigers could decide to play it safe with the lefty and pull him at the first sign of any discomfort.

Tue Sep 19 202312:02Eduardo Rodriguez May Not Pitch Again This Year
Detroit Tigers left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez (shoulder) left his start on Monday against the Los Angeles Dodgers early with a left-scapular spasm. He will be further evaluated on Tuesday, but with less than two weeks left in the season, Rodriguez might not have enough time to return. Before leaving in the fourth inning, E-Rod had allowed five earned runs on five hits (two home runs) while walking one and striking out one in three innings. The rough outing raised the 30-year-old southpaw's ERA to 3.57 on the season. The Venezuelan has had a strong season overall, though, going 11-9 with a 1.17 WHIP and 133 strikeouts in 138 2/3 innings pitched over 24 starts for the Tigers. He has a clause in his contract that allows him to opt out of his current deal after the World Series and forgo the final four years of the six-year deal he signed after 2021.

Thu Sep 7 202314:47Eduardo Rodriguez Toeing The Rubber Thursday
Detroit Tigers pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez will get the ball Thursday against the New York Yankees in the Bronx. E-Rod has enjoyed a fruitful season, working to a 3.11 ERA across 21 starts while his 3.30 FIP and 17.9% K-BB% suggest he has indeed put in good work on the campaign. While he has allowed at least four earned runs in two of his last four starts, the left-hander has also allowed two earned runs or fewer in six of his last nine outings, including 6 2/3 innings of one-run ball with seven strikeouts in a win over the White Sox his last time out. He doesn't have an easy matchup on Thursday, however, as the Yankees rank eighth with a .336 wOBA versus left-handed pitching this season.

Sun Aug 20 202315:59Eduardo Rodriguez With A Strong Outing Sunday
Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez earned a quality start and win against the Cleveland Guardians Sunday afternoon. The lefty went 6 2/3 innings giving up one run on four hits and a walk. He struck out six. Rodriguez improved to 9-6 on the year while lowering his ERA to 3.03. The Guardians ran his pitch count up to 105 as he threw 71 strikes. Rodriguez accrued 17 swings and misses on the day as he continues to be a good option for fantasy managers.

Tue Aug 1 202317:15Dodgers Deal For Eduardo Rodriguez Is Dead
The Los Angeles Dodgers and Detroit Tigers had a trade in place for left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez, but Rodriguez invoked his 10-team no-trade clause that included the Dodgers, and the deal is now dead, according to sources. The Tigers already traded right-handed All-Star Michael Lorenzen to the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday, and they are expected to deal E-Rod, too. There should still be plenty of suitors for the talented southpaw, as he's gone 6-5 on the year with a strong 2.95 ERA (3.17 FIP), 1.03 WHIP, 21 walks and 91 strikeouts in 88 1/3 innings over his 15 starts. Rodriguez missed some time with an injury in June, and he's allowed 13 earned runs on 20 hits while walking five and fanning 24 in 20 2/3 innings over four starts since July 5.

Tue Aug 1 202314:03Padres Linked To Eduardo Rodriguez
Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez is generating interest from the San Diego Padres, according to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com. The Friars already acquired veteran hurler Rich Hill this morning, but with San Diego fourth in the NL West and 5.0 games out of a Wild Card spot, perhaps a more drastic addition could be coming. Rodriguez, 30, has impressed through 15 starts this season, amassing a 2.95 ERA, 3.17 FIP, 9.27 K/9, and 2.14 BB/9. The southpaw has done a decent job limiting loud contact, inducing a 40.5 GB% and 9.1 HR/FB%. Regardless of where he ends up, Rodriguez should remain rostered in most fantasy baseball leagues.

Mon Jul 31 202314:00Tigers Fully Expected To Trade Eduardo Rodriguez, Michael Lorenzen
The Detroit Tigers are definitely going to trade starting pitchers Eduardo Rodriguez and Michael Lorenzen before Tuesday's trade deadline, and it's simply a case of seeing which team blinks first with their high price tag. There are plenty of contenders seeking starting pitching down the stretch in 2023, so the Tigers should eventually get substantial offers for both pitchers. Rodriguez, 30, has been excellent when healthy this year, going 6-5 with a 2.95 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 91 strikeouts in 88 1/3 innings over his 15 starts for Detroit. Lorenzen, meanwhile, was the team's lone All-Star representative and has gone 5-7 with a 3.58 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 83 strikeouts in 105 2/3 innings across his 18 starts.
