Fri May 12 202321:34Jimmy Nelson Suffers Setback
According to manager Dave Roberts, Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander Jimmy Nelson (elbow) will be shut down for throwing for "about 10 days." While the skipper couldn't elaborate on the situation, he did note that Nelson needs to restart his rehab process once he's given the green light to resume. The 33-year-old hasn't pitched at the Major League level since the 2021 season, where he appeared in 28 games and compiled a 1.86 ERA with 44 strikeouts. That said, Nelson doesn't have much value in any fantasy format, and that's not expected to change anytime soon.

Wed Apr 26 202308:19Jimmy Nelson In The Midst Of A Rehab Assignment
Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander Jimmy Nelson (elbow) has begun a rehab assignment with Triple-A Oklahoma City on Tuesday. He walked one, gave up a single, but didn't allow a run to score and struck out a batter in one inning, according to Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register. Nelson hasn't pitched in the Majors since 2021, where he posted a 1.86 ERA and a 37.9% strikeout rate across 28 games and one start. When the 33-year-old does return, fantasy managers should expect him to be in the bullpen again, as he hasn't been a full-time starter since 2017. Nelson can stay on the waiver wire unless manager Dave Roberts starts to use him in a high-leverage role.

Thu Mar 23 202316:43Jimmy Nelson To Open Year On Injured List
Los Angeles Dodgers relief pitcher Jimmy Nelson (elbow) won't be ready for the beginning of the year. Nelson has been pitching in spring training as he makes his way back from Tommy John, but he isn't ready for regular season game action yet. After missing all of 2022, Nelson signed a big-league deal with the Dodgers this offseason and will be an intriguing bullpen piece when healthy. With great ratios in 2021, he could be useful in deeper leagues or ones that count holds as a stat.

Wed Feb 15 202314:58Jimmy Nelson Gets Big-League Deal From Dodgers
Free-agent pitcher Jimmy Nelson is reportedly rejoining the Los Angeles Dodgers on a major-league deal, per a tweet from The Athletic's Fabian Ardaya. Per Ardaya's tweet, Nelson will earn $1.2 million "with a chance to make $4 million with bonuses." Nelson spent the 2022 season on the injured list with the Dodgers after undergoing Tommy John surgery and needing a flexor tendon repair in 2021. The 33-year-old pitched to a 1.86 ERA, a 1.89 FIP, 44 strikeouts, 13 walks, six holds and a win in 29 innings spanning 28 appearances for the National League West club that year. He'll provide the Dodgers with another late-inning, high-leverage relief option for the 2023 season.

Wed Nov 9 202200:44Dodgers Decline Jimmy Nelson's Club Option Tuesday
The Los Angeles Dodgers declined relief pitcher Jimmy Nelson's $1.1 million club option Tuesday, per MLB's Thomas Harrigan. Nelson underwent Tommy John surgery in August 2021 and did not pitch in 2022, but recorded a solid 1.86 ERA and 37.9% strikeout rate in 29 innings pitched out of the bullpen prior to the surgery. The 33-year-old has a serviceable career 4.12 ERA, 1.35 WHIP, and 21.8% strikeout rate, so he will try to join a team in need of some bullpen support.

Tue Mar 15 202214:59Jimmy Nelson Back With The Dodgers
The Los Angeles Dodgers re-signed relief pitcher Jimmy Nelson to an undisclosed deal on Tuesday. Nelson's deal is a major league contract with a team option for 2023. The 32-year-old veteran had elbow surgery last August but was solid before the injury, posting a 1.86 ERA and 0.93 WHIP with 44 strikeouts and 13 walks in 29 innings over 28 appearances (one start) in his first season in LA. Nelson missed all of the 2018 and 2020 seasons due to injury and has pretty much become a full-time reliever at this point in his career. He's fanned at least 10 hitters per nine innings in each of his last three seasons, but Nelson won't carry any fantasy value unless he's starting games again, which is unlikely.

Sat Jul 31 202102:55Joey Votto homers for 7th straight game, 1 shy of MLB record
NEW YORK (AP) — Joey Votto homered for the seventh straight game, one shy of a major league record, and the Cincinnati Reds beat the New York Mets 6-2 on Friday night. Jonathan India went deep twice for the Reds, including a leadoff shot that came on Carlos Carrasco’s first pitch with the Mets. Acquired from Cleveland in January, the veteran right-hander finally made his New York debut after recovering from a hamstring injury. It was an up-and-down day for the Mets, who made a big deal to get Javier Báez from the Chicago Cubs before baseball’s trade deadline — and then revealed injured ace Jacob deGrom will be shut down for two more weeks because of inflammation in his pitching elbow, making it unlikely he’ll rejoin the NL East leaders before September. Báez was acquired from the Cubs along with right-hander Trevor Williams for outfield prospect Pete Crow-Armstrong, the Mets’ first-round pick in the 2020 amateur draft. Báez is expected to join the Mets on Saturday and will play shortstop... [More]
Sun Jul 25 202116:43Dodgers put star OF Mookie Betts on IL with hip inflammation
LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Los Angeles Dodgers placed All-Star right fielder Mookie Betts on the 10-day injured list Sunday with right hip inflammation. In a corresponding move, the Dodgers activated right-hander Jimmy Nelson from the injured list after he recovered from a left lumbar strain. Betts’ IL move is retroactive to Thursday and was made just before the start of Sunday’s game against the Colorado Rockies. He last started on July 17 at Colorado and last appeared in a game Monday when he made a pinch-hit appearance against the San Francisco Giants. The Dodgers had been avoiding an IL move for Betts, initially projecting him to return on Tuesday for the start of a three-game road series against the San Francisco Giants. Betts is batting .270 this season with an .876 OPS and has 14 home runs with 40 RBIs. Nelson, who has been on the IL twice this season, is 1-1 with the Dodgers in 20 appearances and has a 2.00 ERA. ___ More AP MLB: https://apnews.com/hub/MLB and https://twitter.com/AP_Sports
Thu Jul 15 202111:50Injury-plagued Dodgers keeping close in bid to repeat title
LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Los Angeles Dodgers waited 32 years to win the World Series again. The road to a repeat championship is never easy, and they head into the second half of the season hoping the worst of the bumps along the way are behind them. A suspended starting pitcher, injuries and offensive struggles have conspired against them. It’s the first time since 2016 the Dodgers haven’t been in first place at the All-Star break. But they're close. At 56-35, they have the second-most wins in the majors behind the rival San Francisco Giants (57-32). LA trails the first-place Giants by two games in the NL West, a division the Dodgers have won eight consecutive years. “Considering what all we’ve been through, I’d say it’s pretty good,” All-Star first baseman Max Muncy said. “We haven’t played anywhere near the caliber that we are capable of playing.” During one stretch, the Dodgers went 5-15. Injuries have knocked out starters Clayton Kershaw and Dustin May and shortstop Corey Seager, among... [More]

Fri Apr 16 202102:28Ramrez helps Indians bounce back, beat White Sox 4-2
CHICAGO (AP) — Slumping slugger José Ramírez connected for a go-ahead, two-run homer off Lance Lynn in the sixth inning and the Cleveland Indians bounced back from being no-hit, beating the Chicago White Sox 4-2 on Thursday. After Carlos Rodón just missed a perfect game Wednesday night, there was a different kind of tension this time as the benches emptied in the bottom of the first. Adam Eaton singled and tried to advance when Indians right fielder Josh Naylor threw to third, hoping to get the lead runner. Eaton arrived ahead of the throw back to second, but was called out when his hand came off the bag while shortstop Andrés Giménez stood his ground and held the tag. Eaton grabbed Giménez’s leg, began barking and then pushed Giménez in the chest with two hands. Indians starter Aaron Civale plunked Eaton with a pitch in the upper arm in the third. Civale (3-0) allowed only a run — in the first — and five hits through six innings in his third straight strong start. Nick Wittgren and James... [More]
