Thu Mar 2110:07Christian Walker Hits First Home Run Of Spring
Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Christian Walker went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in a Cactus League matchup versus the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday. His homer would be the first this spring for the slugger. He now has four RBI this spring with a .290 batting average over 31 at-bats. Walker year in and year out has been a steady source of power for managers and will look to have his third straight season of 30-plus homers in 2024. One of the more underrated first baseman, Walker's power makes him a nice selection for managers after the big names are off the board.

Thu Feb 2919:08Christian Walker Has Right-Hand Contusion
Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Christian Walker (hand) has been diagnosed with a right-hand contusion after being hit by a pitch on his hand and leaving Thursday's Cactus League game early against the San Francisco Giants. Apparently X-rays came back negative on Walker's hand after he was hit by a pitch, so he should be considered day-to-day. Arizona will likely rest their starting first baseman for a few days, but he could be back in the lineup later this weekend. The 32-year-old right-handed hitter isn't getting any younger and could only stick around one more year in the desert, but he's been one of the most consistent power bats at first base over the last two years and should be viewed as a high-floor, top-10 fantasy first baseman this spring.

Thu Feb 2916:36Christian Walker Leaves Early After Being Hit By Pitch
Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Christian Walker (hand) left the team's Cactus League game early on Thursday against the San Francisco Giants after being hit on the hand by a pitch. He'll presumably be taken for X-rays, and we'll have the results of those X-rays when they become available. Hopefully, the 32-year-old avoids any breaks in his hand is just dealing with a contusion. When healthy, Walker is a top-10 fantasy first baseman for the reigning National League champions. In the last two regular seasons in the desert, he's hit .250/.330/.487 with an .817 OPS, 69 home runs and 197 RBI in 317 games played. Walker also managed to steal a career-high 11 bases in 2023 as a cherry on top. Check back for an injury update on Walker later on Thursday.

Thu Jan 1116:32Diamondbacks Settle With Christian Walker
The Arizona Diamondbacks avoided salary arbitration on Thursday with first baseman Christian Walker by agreeing to a one-year, $10.9 million deal, according to sources. Walker had another strong season for the D-backs while helping them reach the World Series in 2023. The 32-year-old finished the regular season with a .258/.333/.497 slash line with a career-high .830 OPS, 33 home runs, 36 doubles, two triples, a career-high 103 RBI, a career-high 11 stolen bases and 86 runs scored in 157 games played. As long as his plate discipline remains strong, Walker should be able to churn out another strong season in the desert as he approaches free agency next winter.

Thu Oct 5 202315:00Christian Walker Licking His Lips For NLDS Game 1 Matchup
Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Christian Walker has to be salivating at the matchup that awaits him for Game 1 of the NLDS against the Los Angeles Dodgers and left-hander Clayton Kershaw. Few, if any, hitters have enjoyed more success than Walker against the future Hall of Famer. The 32-year-old has made 36 career trips to the plate against Kershaw and has gone 10-for-34 (.294) with five home runs and two walks in that time. Granted, Kershaw has struck Walker out 12 times, or in one-third, of those plate appearances but Walker's hefty 1.068 OPS off of Kershaw in a sizeable sample makes him a nice DFS option when Saturday's Game 1 rolls around.

Mon Sep 4 202314:30Christian Walker, Tommy Pham Back In The Lineup
Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Christian Walker (elbow) and outfielder Tommy Pham (finger) are both back in the lineup on Monday to face the visiting Colorado Rockies and right-hander Peter Lambert. Walker is at first base and batting cleanup, while Pham is serving as the designated hitter and batting third in the order. Walker left Saturday's game early following a hit by pitch on his right elbow, but he went deep as a pinch-hitter on Saturday and is now back in the starting lineup. The 32-year-old should be returned to starting fantasy lineups after crushing his 30th homer of the year Sunday. Pham hurt his right pinkie in frustration on Saturday and took the day off on Sunday. Since being acquired in a trade with the Mets, he's gone 24-for-103 (.233) with three homers, 17 RBI and six steals in 26 games for the Snakes.

Mon Sep 4 202301:44Christian Walker Pinch-Hits Sunday
Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Christian Walker (elbow) pinch-hit in the sixth inning of Sunday's game and stayed in to play first base afterward. He got another at-bat in the ninth and proceeded to hit his 30th homer of the season. It appears his elbow is fine after getting hit by a pitch on Saturday, and it is likely that he is back in the starting lineup Monday. Along with the aforementioned 30 dingers, Walker has a .271 AVG, 71 runs, 90 RBI, and eight stolen bases. He has been one of the best first basemen in fantasy and will likely be a top-four-round pick next year.

Sun Sep 3 202313:57Christian Walker Not In The Lineup On Sunday Against The Orioles
Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Christian Walker (elbow) is not in the starting lineup for Sunday's series finale against the Baltimore Orioles. The veteran first baseman was struck by a pitch on his right elbow during Saturday's contest so it makes sense that he would get Sunday off. The 32-year-old underwent X-rays, which came back negative, so it's good to hear that he avoided a serious injury. He's likely just dealing with some soreness so Pavin Smith will cover first base and bat sixth against Jack Flaherty and the Orioles. Fantasy managers should keep an eye on the D-Backs' lineup ahead of Monday's series opener against the Colorado Rockies to see if Walker is back in there.

Sun Sep 3 202310:21Christian Walker Day-To-Day With Elbow Contusion
Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Christian Walker (elbow) has been diagnosed with a right elbow contusion. The 32-year-old was hit by a pitch in the third inning of Saturday's game versus the Baltimore Orioles but stayed in there until the fifth frame. Pavin Smith substituted for Walker, who is day-to-day after X-rays came back negative. Walker is unlikely to be in Sunday's lineup for the series finale but doesn't look to be facing an extended absence. The right-handed slugger is slashing an imposing .270/.347/.523 with 29 home runs, 34 doubles, 89 RBI, and eight stolen bases in 488 at-bats overall. Smith and Emmanuel Rivera should platoon at the cold corner in Walker's absence, but Lourdes Gurriel Jr. can play there, too.

Sat Sep 2 202321:53Christian Walker Removed From Saturday's Game After HBP
Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Christian Walker (elbow) was removed from Saturday's game against the Baltimore Orioles after being hit by a pitch in the elbow. He was replaced in the fifth inning by Pavin Smith. Walker went 0-for-1 before exiting. The severity of his elbow injury is unknown at this time, and he is considered day-to-day. The Diamondbacks will provide an update after the game. Walker is having a terrific season in 2023, slashing .270/.347/.523 with 29 home runs, 89 RBI, and eight stolen bases over 132 games. Smith would see an uptick in at-bats and is worth monitoring in deep leagues if Walker were to miss any games.

Wed Aug 16 202320:27Christian Walker Launches Two Homers On Wednesday
Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Christian Walker went 3-for-3 with two two-run home runs and two walks, beating the Rockies 9-7 on Wednesday. Walker's first homer came in the first inning off Colorado's left-handed starter Austin Gomber. In the eighth frame, the 32-year-old launched his second two-run shot of the afternoon versus righty reliever Tyler Kinley. In his last 26 trips to the plate, Walker has been on fire as he has smashed five home runs and logged 12 RBI.

Tue Aug 15 202300:18Christian Walker Goes Yard In Loss To Colorado
Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Christian Walker went 2-for-4 with a double, a home run, three RBI, and a strikeout in a 6-4 loss to the Colorado Rockies on Monday. Walker was responsible for 3/4 of the D-Backs run production in this one. He put Arizona on the board in the top of the first inning with a double off Chris Flexen to score Corbin Carroll. He then victimized Flexen once again with a two-run blast, his 25th of the season, in the top of the sixth with Lourdes Gurriel Jr. on base. Walker has now homered in 2-of-3 contests and is slashing a ridiculous .393/.414/.786 with three home runs, eight RBI, and one stolen base over his last seven contests. The 32-year-old has been a reliable top-five option at first base all season and should continue to rake as the Diamondbacks look to make a playoff push over the final two months. Overall, he's rocking a .270/.342/.523 batting line to go along with 25 home runs, 76 RBI, and eight stolen bases over 430 at-bats.

Sun Jun 25 202307:37Christian Walker Doubles Twice, Continues Torrid Stretch
Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Christian Walker stayed hot on Saturday night, extending his hitting streak to nine games with a 3-for-5 effort, including two doubles, one that cleared the bases for three RBI. The clean-up hitter has been on fire at the dish of late, evidenced by his .361/.419/.614 slash line in June while tacking on three home runs and two stolen bases. This is a complete 180 from May, in which he hit just .237 but made up for it by destroying eight homers. The large discrepancy in BABIP month-to-month suggests that Walker will fall somewhere in the .270-.280 range when the dust settles, but the batted ball data favors the eight-homer month more than the three. Regardless, fantasy managers can keep riding the 32-year-old confidently as he hits in the middle of a sneakily potent Diamondbacks offense. On the season, Walker is hitting .278 with 15 home runs, 42 runs, and 52 RBI as we approach 2023's halfway mark.

Mon Jun 12 202312:16Christian Walker Hits Two Doubles In Sunday's Win
Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Christian Walker went 2-for-5 with two doubles, an RBI and a run scored in Sunday's 7-5 win over the Detroit Tigers in the series finale. Walker's second double of the game put the D-backs out in front in the ninth inning. The 32-year-old is hitting a mediocre .252 (58-for-230) on the season, but he does have 15 doubles, 12 home runs and 38 RBI in his 61 games. He's also off to a nice start in the month of June, going 10-for-32 (.313) with five doubles, three RBI and three multi-hit games. Walker should continue to be a solid source of power numbers for the first-place Diamondbacks moving forward.

Sun Jun 4 202315:03Christian Walker Absent From Lineup Again On Sunday
Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Christian Walker is sitting out of the lineup on Sunday against the Atlanta Braves. It will be only the 32-year-old's fourth absence of the season, but notably his second in as many days, in 59 possible games. Walker has no injury designation at this juncture, so we'd expect him to return for the start of a three-game set with the Washington Nationals beginning on Tuesday. Perhaps the Diamondbacks will provide some clarity on his status soon. Emmanuel Rivera is at the cold corner and batting fifth versus Michael Soroka on Sunday. Rivera could be worth a gander in DFS while functioning from the Arizona's heart of the order and hitting .341 with an .828 OPS in 82 at-bats this year.

Sun May 28 202308:01Christian Walker Logs Single In Saturday's Loss
Arizona Diamondbacks first basemanChristian Walker went 1-for-3 in Saturday's 2-1 loss to the Boston Red Sox. The 32-year-old wasn't involved in the run-scoring, but his hit improved his average on the season to .245. He's consistently hitting around the .240 mark, evidenced by his .242 batting average last year and .244 two years ago. Walker is slashing .245/.307/.478 with 11 home runs, 34 RBI, 28 runs, and a stolen base over 205 plate appearances in 2023. He showed he was a prodigious power hitter last year by blasting 36 home runs. Walker derives fantasy value from his elite power and ability to drive in runs. Fantasy managers should continue to roll with Walker in most league formats.

Sun Apr 23 202313:46Christian Walker Not In The Lineup On Sunday
Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Christian Walker is getting the day off for Sunday's series finale against the San Diego Padres. Walker was also plunked on the forearm in Saturday's contest so a day off won't hurt the veteran slugger. He's slashing .241/.276/.418 with three home runs, 14 RBI, and one stolen base over 79 at-bats so far this season. Pavin Smith is filling in at first base and batting fifth against Yu Darvish and the Friars.

Fri Apr 21 202308:45Christian Walker Picking Up The Pace At The Plate
Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Christian Walker is slowly beginning to pick up the pace at the plate. In Thursday's 7-5 loss to the San Diego Padres, Walker collected three hits while striking out the other two times. After a horrid slump, Walker is slowly beginning to create more contact. Over the past seven games, the 32-year-old is hitting .296/.300/.407 with four RBI. Considering his 32 HR year last season, it's quite imperative for the Dbacks that his bat contributes. On the season, Walker has a .614 OPS with two homers and a .265 wOBA. The Diamondbacks will continue their series against the San Diego Padres as Walker hopes to sustain his recent success at the plate.

Wed Apr 12 202314:50Christian Walker Back In Starting Lineup Wednesday
Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Christian Walker will return to the starting lineup Wednesday after sitting out Tuesday versus the Brewers. It was a good day to give Walker his first breather of the season, not only because Corbin Burnes was on the mound for Milwaukee, but Walker has really struggled to begin the season. After slugging 36 home runs last season, Walker is hitting just .195 with two home runs and a double along with a .610 OPS across his first 45 plate appearances of the season. The club is hoping a day off will recharge his batteries as he faces Janson Junk on Wednesday afternoon at home.

Sat Mar 18 202322:30Christian Walker Hits First Spring Homer In Return Saturday
Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Christian Walker (hip) returned to the Cactus League lineup on Saturday against the Cleveland Guardians and went 1-for-2 with his first spring home run and a walk in the team's 6-4 win. Walker was pulled from Monday's Cactus League game early as a precaution after being hit by a pitch above his hip, but he was able to return this weekend and should be fully expected to be ready for Opening Day in a few weeks. The 31-year-old played first base on Saturday and hit cleanup for Arizona. If you choose to wait on the first base position in fantasy drafts, Walker is a fine target for his power. He hit .242/.327/.477 with an .804 OPS, career-high 36 home runs, 94 RBI and 84 runs scored in 160 games for the D-backs in 2022.
