Mon Aug 23 202116:58Mike Foltynewicz Lands On COVID-19 List
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Mike Foltynewicz has been placed on the COVID-19 injured list. It's unknown whether or not he tested positive, but regardless it appears Foltynewicz is going to miss some time. That being said, youngster Spencer Howard should start on Wednesday with righty Dane Dunning going on Thursday. Neither of those pitchers are going to be trustworthy streaming choices.

Thu Aug 19 202111:54Mike Foltynewicz Holds Mariners In Check
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Mike Foltynewicz has been relatively solid on the mound over his last few outings. On Wednesday, he went six innings, three hits allowed, two earned runs, two walks, and five strikeouts in the 3-1 loss to the Seattle Mariners. Foltynewicz gave up a two-run home run to Kyle Seager in the first inning, but settled in after that. Sadly, the Rangers weren't able to give much run support for their starter. Despite a few decent outings, Foltynewicz will carry a 5.54 ERA and 1.28 WHIP over 130 innings into his next outing versus the Cleveland Indians. Fantasy managers shouldn't be fooled by a few decent performances. Foltynewicz remains someone to be avoided in almost all fantasy formats.

Fri Aug 13 202112:02Mike Foltynewicz Posts Quality Start Versus Mariners
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Mike Foltynewicz has been pitching well as of late and continued that on Thursday. He went seven innings, six hits, three earned runs, and six strikeouts in the 3-1 loss. Foltynewicz pitched well despite giving up two home runs in this contest. He was able to keep the Mariners offense in check, but Texas didn't bring much to the plate themselves. Foltynewicz will carry a 5.66 ERA into a rematch versus the Mariners next Wednesday. He has been pitching better lately, but isn't reliable enough to be a streaming option.

Sat Aug 7 202112:25Mike Foltynewicz Holds A's To One Run
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Mike Foltynewicz pitched surprisingly well versus the Oakland Athletics on Friday. He went six innings, two hits allowed, one earned run, three walks, and two strikeouts in the 4-1 loss. He'll take a 5.77 ERA, 1.32 WHIP, and 80 strikeouts over 117 innings into his next outing against the Seattle Mariners. Fantasy managers should consider this a fluke outing and continue avoiding Foltynewicz.

Mon Aug 2 202110:41Mike Foltynewicz Has Decent Outing On Sunday
Texas Rangers starting pitcher Mike Foltynewicz finally put together a decent outing after getting smacked around his last few starts. He went five innings, three hits allowed, two earned runs, three walks, and one strikeouts versus the Seattle Mariners on Sunday. Both of his runs came with the bases loaded in the second inning. However, Foltynewicz was able to work out of trouble and help get the 4-3 victory. The right-hander will take a 6.00 ERA, 1.35 WHIP, and 78 strikeouts over 111 innings into his next start against the Oakland Athletics. He won't be a reliable streaming choice for that one and can be ignored in fantasy formats going forward.

Thu Jul 22 202122:52Braves beat Phillies 7-2, climb back into NL East race
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Dansby Swanson hit his first career grand slam, Orlando Arcia added a solo shot and the Atlanta Braves beat the Philadelphia Phillies 7-2 on Thursday night to inch closer in the NL East race. Charlie Morton (9-4) allowed two earned runs over six innings and struck out eight in his latest strong start. With the victory, the Braves — winners of the last three NL East titles — closed within four games of the idle New York Mets and tied Philadelphia for second place at 47-48. Atlanta did most of its offensive damage against Phillies starter Matt Moore, who allowed six earned runs in six innings. Morton cruised for most of the night before stumbling a bit in the seventh when Didi Gregorius hit a leadoff triple and Odubel Herrera followed with an RBI double. Luke Jackson replaced Morton and got two outs before allowing Jean Segura’s RBI single. The Braves added a run in the ninth when Austin Riley drew a bases-loaded walk off Mauricio Llovera. A look at what’s happening around the majors today: SUSPENSION AFTER SHOOTING The San Diego Padres and Washington will resume their game after it was suspended because of a shooting outside Nationals Park. The shooting caused echoes of gunfire inside the stadium and prompted many fans to clear the seats and sent some scrambling for safety in the San Diego dugout. The shooting, an exchange of gunfire between people in two cars, left three people injured, according to Ashan Benedict, the Metropolitan Police Department’s executive assistant police chief. One of the people who was shot was a woman who was attending the game and who was struck while she was outside the stadium, he said. Her injuries weren’t considered life-threatening. Sat Jul 17 202122:21LEADING OFF: Scherzer vs Padres again, Bassitt's streak
A look at what’s happening around the majors Sunday: ANOTHER CHANCE Washington ace Max Scherzer gets another look at Fernando Tatis Jr. and the Padres when the Nationals close out a weekend series against San Diego. Scherzer was hit hard by the Padres on July 8, giving up a grand slam to reliever Daniel Camarena during Washington's 9-8 loss. Scherzer (7-4, 2.66 ERA) had been pitching well before that no-decision, going 6-2 with a 1.68 ERA in his previous 11 outings. He started the All-Star Game for the National League on Tuesday and tossed a perfect inning. Joe Musgrove (5-7, 2.93) takes the ball for San Diego. A-OK Athletics All-Star Chris Bassitt (10-2, 3.28 ERA) takes a 10-game winning streak into a matchup with Cleveland at the Coliseum. The 32-year-old righty dropped his first two starts of the year and hasn’t lost in 17 outings since. Bassitt’s streak is the longest by an Oakland pitcher since Mike Fiers won 12 straight in 2019. Indians right-hander Zach Plesac (4-3, 4.11) has won... [More]
Sat Jul 17 202116:11Rangers-Blue Jays in Buffalo rained out; doubleheader Sunday
BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — The game between the Texas Rangers and Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday was postponed because of rain. It will be made up as part of an afternoon doubleheader Sunday, with both games scheduled for seven innings. The Rangers said left-hander Kolby Allard will start the opener, followed by Mike Foltynewicz. The Blue Jays will have left-handers work both games, with Hyun Jin Ryu taking the mound for the opener and Steven Matz working the nightcap. Toronto entered Saturday in third place in the AL East, eight games behind first-place Boston. Texas has lost seven of 10 and is last in the AL West. The Blue Jays on Friday received approval from the Canadian government for an exemption on border restrictions that would allow them to return to Canada for a homestand that begins on July 30. They played home games during the shortened 2020 season in Buffalo and started this season in Dunedin, Florida, before moving north to Buffalo. The Canadian government didn’t allow the team to... BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — The game between the Texas Rangers and Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday was postponed because of rain. It will be made up as part of an afternoon doubleheader Sunday, with both games seven innings. The Rangers say left-hander Kolby Allard will start the opener, followed by Mike Foltynewicz. Toronto entered Saturday in third place in the AL East, 4 ½ games behind first-place Boston. Texas has lost seven of 10 and is last in the AL West. The Blue Jays on Friday received approval from the Canadian government for an exemption on border restrictions that would allow them to play in Canada this month. They played home games during the shortened 2020 season in Buffalo and started this season in Dunedin, Florida, before moving to Buffalo. The Canadian government didn’t allow the team to play in Toronto because of the risk of spreading COVID-19. Toronto last played at 49,000-capacity Rogers Centre on Sept. 29, 2019.
Thu Jul 8 202116:58Texas Rangers have unexpected trio going to All-Star Game
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — The Texas Rangers have quite a trio unexpectedly going to the All-Star Game together. There is the veteran pitcher who got only one out in the shortest opening-day start in the majors in nearly four decades; the 6-foot-5 slugger who had only two homers in the first month; and a 28-year-old Cuban rookie who wasn't even on the Texas roster to open the season. With right-hander Kyle Gibson and big-hitting outfielders Joey Gallo and Adolis Garcia headed to Denver for Tuesday night's game, the only teams with more All-Star selections than the last-place Rangers are Boston, Toronto, Houston and San Diego. ”The three of them are as deserving as anyone,” said Brock Holt, who before joining his hometown Rangers this season was a 2015 All-Star in Boston, where the utility player was on Red Sox teams filled with All-Stars from 2013-19. It will be the second All-Star Game for Gallo, who homered on the only pitch he saw in 2019. The 27-year-old Gold Glove-winning right fielder... [More]
Mon Jul 5 202100:18Ohtani homers again as Angels beat Orioles 6-5
ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Shohei Ohtani hit his major league-leading 31st homer in the third, and Juan Lagares ended it with a two-run double in the ninth inning of the Los Angeles Angels’ 6-5 comeback victory over the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday. Cedric Mullins hit a tiebreaking homer for Baltimore in the ninth in his first game after making his first All-Star team, but the Angels jumped all over Cole Sulser (2-1) without making an out in the bottom half. After Los Angeles loaded the bases on a walk and two short singles, Lagares doubled to the gap in right-center, extending the Angels’ winning streak to five games. Raisel Iglesias (6-3) got the win. Ohtani tied the MLB record for the most homers in a season by a Japanese-born player when he blasted a 459-foot solo shot off Thomas Eshelman to straightaway center. It was his 14th homer in 17 games overall. Less than an hour later, Ohtani became the first player in major league history to be picked for an All-Star Game as both a hitter and... [More]
