The Chicago White Sox placed newly acquired outfielder Charlie Tilson on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday with a strained left hamstring.Outfielder J.B. Shuck was recalled from Triple-A Charlotte to replace Tilson, who suffered the injury during his major league debut on Tuesday night. The 23-year-old was attempting to make a diving catch in the fifth inning of an 11-5 loss to Detroit.Tilson, who needed assistance to get off the field, was involved in the Zach Duke deal with the St. Louis Cardinals over the weekend.--The St. Louis Cardinals placed left-handed relief pitcher Tyler Lyons on the 15-day disabled list with a right knee stress reaction. The move is retroactive to July 31.The 28-year-old Lyons, who last pitched on Saturday at Miami, is 2-0 with a 3.38 ERA over 48 innings in 30 games this season, including five appearances during which he has worked three or more innings.The Cardinals recalled left-hander Dean Kiekhefer from Triple-A Memphis to take Lyons' spot on the roster.--The Chicago Cubs placed right-hander Jason Hammel on the bereavement list prior to Wednesday's afternoon game against the visiting Miami Marlins.Right-hander Justin Grimm was recalled from Triple-A Iowa to replace Hammel, who will be excused 3-7 days to mourn a death in the family.Hammel is 11-5 with a 3.07 ERA this season.--The New York Yankees recalled catcher Gary Sanchez from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.Outfielder Ben Gamel was optioned to the RailRiders to make room for Sanchez, who is expected to platoon with Austin Romine and Brian McCann behind the plate.--The Cleveland Indians recalled Shawn Armstrong from Columbus and optioned fellow right-hander Austin Adams to the Triple-A club.Armstrong allowed one run on two hits in one inning during his lone appearance this season with the Indians on May 31. --Washington Nationals second baseman Daniel Murphy and right-hander Stephen Strasburg were rewarded for their sizzling performances in July by being named the National League's Player and Pitcher of the Month, respectively.Murphy, who also won the NL Player of the Month in May, batted .346 in July and is hitting .356 on the season. Strasburg won four of five decisions last month to improve to a majors-best 15-1 for the year.--San Diego Padres 2B Ryan Schimpf was named the National League Rookie of the Month for July. Schimpf hit .269 with nine homers and 17 RBIs with a .705 slugging percentage and a 1.029 OPS. --Washington Nationals first baseman Ryan Zimmerman (wrist) was held out of the third straight game after being hit by a pitch in the ninth inning of Sunday's game. Nationals right fielder Bryce Harper returned to the lineup after being a late scratch Tuesday because of illness. He doubled in his first plate appearance. -- New York Mets manager Terry Collins said he had no problems with outfielder Yoenis Cespedes playing golf after not starting three straight games with a quadriceps injury. "Was he running on the course or was he walking? Did he ride a card or was he jogging?" Collins said. "I don't have any problem with it."Also, the Yankees announced left-handed pitcher Jacob Lindgren will undergo Tommy John surgery on his left elbow Friday.
