SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Drew Robinson, the San Francisco Giants minor leaguer who survived a suicide attempt last year that took his right eye and has been outspoken about his ordeal and positive strides, announced he is retiring and will join the club's front office as a mental health advocate. President of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi said Friday the organization was still finalizing details of Robinson's position. In a lengthy farewell note on Twitter, Robinson said he would play his final games for Triple-A Sacramento this weekend. “Over the last year I've promoted self-love and self-care and the Giants are offering me the opportunity to transition to a role as a mental-health advocate," Robinson wrote. “I couldn’t be more excited to remain in the game that saved my life. LOUIS (AP) — Cardinals right-hander Michael Wacha was placed on the 10-day injured list because of patellar tendinitis in his left knee and will miss his scheduled start Tuesday against NL Central rival Milwaukee.St. Louis said the move was retroactive to Friday. Infielder/outfielder Drew Robinson was recalled Monday from Triple-A Memphis."Something he's had in the past," St. Louis manager Mike Shildt said. NEW YORK (AP) — The Texas Rangers have activated outfielder Delino DeShields from the seven-day concussion disabled list before their series finale against the New York Yankees.DeShields was batting ninth Sunday and playing center field.In a corresponding move, Texas optioned outfielder/infielder Drew Robinson to Triple-A Round Rock.DeShields was placed on the disabled list on Aug. 4 with concussion symptoms. They were believed to be related to the 25-year-old banging the back of his head while attempting a sliding catch against Boston on July 11.He was placed in Major League Baseball's concussion protocol but returned to the lineup in Texas' game two days later. ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Rangers center fielder Delino DeShields has been placed on the disabled list with post-concussion syndrome more than three weeks after banging the back of his head when trying to make a sliding catch.The Rangers announced the move Saturday, a day after DeShields was scratched from the starting lineup because of headaches and placed on MLB's seven-day concussion DL. The earliest he could return is next Friday.DeShields hit his head in the sixth inning of a game at Boston on July 11.
