Wed Mar 2019:48Chad Green, Yimi Garcia Could Be Options For Saves Early On
With both Toronto Blue Jays relief pitchers Jordan Romano (elbow) and Erik Swanson (forearm) dealing with injuries with Opening Day right around the corner next week, Chad Green and Yimi Garcia are two clear candidates to fill in for the closer role if Romano and Swanson aren't ready or are eased back in. Nate Pearson could also be a candidate to make the Opening Day roster if one or both of Romano and/or Swanson are on the injured list. Green has just 11 career saves, but he has enough high-leverage experience to know the ropes. Garcia saved 15 games for the Marlins in 2021 and stepped into the role a few times in Toronto last year when Romano was available, making him the best one to speculate on in deep fantasy leagues.

Wed Mar 2014:50Yimi Garcia Dealing In Spring Action
Toronto Blue Jays reliever Yimi Garcia is enjoying himself a nice spring as he looks to build upon what was mostly a strong season in the 2023 campaign. The right-hander has worked to a tidy 2.25 ERA across seven outings and eight innings of work, posting a 0.63 WHIP with seven strikeouts in that time. Both of his earned runs allowed have come via solo home runs and he has walked just two batters to this point. Garcia's solid work is certainly worth monitoring considering Blue Jays closer Jordan Romano is dealing with an elbow issue and setup man Erik Swanson is also sidelined with a forearm injury. Should that duo miss time to begin the season, it's likely Garcia will be in line for some early-season save opportunities, although Romano would certainly take over closing duties upon his return.

Fri Mar 31 202312:21Yimi Garcia Picks Up Win After Blowing Save
Toronto Blue Jays relief pitcher Yimi Garcia blew a save on Opening Day on Thursday against the St. Louis Cardinals but was credited with the win in an eventual 10-9 win. Jordan Romano picked up the save for Toronto. Garcia allowed two hits and two runs while walking two and striking out none in his inning of work in the eighth inning in the first game of the regular season. It wasn't the greatest start for the 32-year-old right-handed reliever, but it's telling that he worked ahead of Romano in the eighth inning with a one-run lead. Garcia had a career-high 22 holds in 2022 and will remain valuable in fantasy leagues that count holds.

Wed Jun 22 202221:57Yimi Garcia Dealing With Side Discomfort
Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Yimi Garcia (side) wasn't available for Wednesday's game against the Chicago White Sox due to left-side discomfort. He will be re-evaluated over the weekend. The 31-year-old allowed two hits while striking out one across a scoreless inning in Tuesday's win over the White Sox. He started dealing with side discomfort after Tuesday's outing and is considered day-to-day. Garcia owns a 3.42 ERA, 0.99 WHIP, and 26 strikeouts over 26 1/3 innings in 2022. The Blue Jays right-hander is 0-for-3 in save opportunities but has racked up 12 holds over 28 games. Garcia holds more fantasy value in saves and holds leagues, and fantasy managers should know his status for the upcoming weekend series against the Boston Red Sox.

Sun Nov 28 202113:53Blue Jays Add Yimi Garcia To Bullpen
The Toronto Blue Jays agreed to a two-year, $11 million deal with right-handed reliever Yimi Garcia on Saturday. The deal includes a club option for the 2023 season. Garcia has a high-spin fastball and will provide the Blue Jays with a nice middle-innings reliever. The 31-year-old spent part of last season as the closer for the Miami Marlins and had a 3.47 ERA with 15 saves before he was traded to the Houston Astros. Garcia wasn't as good there, sporting a 5.48 ERA down the stretch and allowing seven runs in five innings in the postseason before tossing four scoreless innings in the World Series. Toronto is coming off a 91-71 season in 2021 in which they just missed the postseason. Jordan Romano should enter 2022 as the Jays closer, but bullpen roles might be flexible.

Thu Jul 29 202102:14Late-scratch Judge hits tiebreaking single for Yanks in 10th
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — Aaron Judge went from being a late scratch to hitting a tiebreaking single in a two-run 10th inning to help the New York Yankees beat the Tampa Bay Rays for the second straight day, 3-1 on Wednesday night. Judge was taken out of the lineup about 30 minutes before the scheduled first pitch. Although no announcement was made about why, the All-Star right fielder struck out in the fifth pinch-hitting for Estevan Florial. Judge returned to the team Tuesday after going on the COVID-19 injured list July 16. New York also had a big night off the field. The Yankees reached a deal to get All-Star slugger Joey Gallo from the Texas Rangers, a person familiar with the trade told The Associated Press. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the move had not yet been announced and was subject to approval of medical records of the players involved. Greg Allen was hit by a pitch from Pete Fairbanks (3-4) leading off the 10th, putting runners on first and second. Judge... [More]

Wed Jul 28 202118:17Yimi Garcia Traded To The Houston Astros
Miami Marlins relief pitcher Yimi Garcia was traded to the Houston Astros on Wednesday, MLB Network insider Jon Heyman reported. The 30-year-old right-hander has pitched to a 3.47 ERA with 35 strikeouts over 36 1/3 innings and had recorded 15 saves so far this season for Miami. While Garcia's ERA has gone up since the start of the season, he remains solid and can benefit from pitching for a contender like the Astros. The Marlins received Triple-A outfielder Bryan De La Cruz in the trade.

Wed Jul 28 202113:48Yimi Garcia Reportedly Likely To Be Traded
Miami Marlins relief pitcher Yimi Garcia is reportedly "likely to be dealt" according to a tweet from SportsGrid's Craig Mish. Garcia has pitched to a 3.47 ERA and a 4.17 FIP in 36.1 innings so far for Miami. He's also struck out 35 batters and walked 15 while registering 15 saves. If he's traded to a contender, the reliever should continue to have value in leagues where saves and holds are a combined scoring category. However, if he's traded to a club with a set closer, he might not make as much of an impact in fantasy leagues where only saves are part of the scoring.

Mets manager Luis Rojas returned to the dugout after serving a two-game suspension for excessive arguing on Sunday.
