INF Gavin Cecchini was recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas Thursday, when he grounded out as a pinch-hitter for the final out of the Mets' 7-5 loss to the Yankees. This is the second trip to the majors this season for Cecchini, who is expected to provide depth at the middle infield positions with IF Jose Reyes (left rib cage) on the 10-day disabled list and IF Wilmer Flores (left rib cage) day-to-day. During his first stint with the Mets from June 15-23, Cecchini batted 286 (4-for-14) with his first major league homer, a solo shot off Los Angeles Dodgers ace LHP Clayton Kershaw. He is 6-for-22 with a homer and four RBIs in 10 big league games dating back to last season.

2B Gavin Cecchini was demoted to Triple-A Las Vegas before Friday's game against the San Francisco Giants. The move was made to create a roster spot for 2B Asdrubal Cabrera, who was returning from the disabled list. The demotion came four days after Cecchini hit his first career home run off Los Angeles Dodgers ace LHP Clayton Kershaw on Monday night.

2B Garin Cecchini homered off LHP Clayton Kershaw for his first long ball in the majors. Cecchini, who was playing in his sixth major league contest, hit a two-run shot off Kershaw in the fifth. Each of Cecchini's three hits have gone for extra bases with the others as doubles.

2B Gavin Cecchini was recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas on Thursday, when he struck out as a pinch-hitter in the fifth inning of the Mets' 8-3 loss to the Nationals. This is the first trip to the majors this season for Cecchini, who was promoted to replace injured 2B Neil Walker on the active roster. He will likely serve as the backup to IF T.J. Rivera, who is expected to see the majority of starts at second base in Walker's absence. Cecchini batted .249 with three homers and 17 RBIs in 62 games at Las Vegas.

INF Garin Cecchini was acquired by the Brewers from the Red Sox on Thursday in a cash transaction. Cecchini, 24, went 0-for-4 in two games for Boston this year. He hit .213/.286/.296 with seven homers and 28 RBIs in 117 games for Triple-A Pawtucket.

Cecchini was optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket on Monday, Scott Lauber of the Boston Herald reports.

His second career stint with the major league club lasted just two days, but barring a trade, Cecchini figures to come back up in a couple weeks to occupy a spot on the team's expanded September roster. Cecchini has struggled with Pawtucket this season (.218/.293/.307) and isn't likely to take on a regular role upon his return.

Cecchini was recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket on Saturday.

Cecchini was a shoo-in September call-up, but with Steven Wright (concussion) getting placed on the 7-day DL, he will get at least an extra week in the big leagues to close out the season. His stock has faded significantly over the past two seasons, but he isn't as bad as his Triple-A numbers from this season (.218/.293/.307) would indicate. He has made 57 starts in left field and 19 starts at third base for Pawtucket this season, so odds are he will see some starts in left with Hanley Ramirez dinged up.

Cecchini went 4-for-5 with two homers and three runs scored for Triple-A Pawtucket on Thursday.

Until this season, Cecchini was thought about as inevitable major leaguer based on his approach at the plate, but his status has taken a hit as his numbers are way down across the board (.201/.271/.317/.588). There's no room for him at this time in Boston and his trade value is nowhere near it was two years ago.

Cecchini went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts for Triple-A Pawtucket on Tuesday. His average dipped to .185.

Cecchini was billed as a pure hitter, a possessor of a great swing, but his results in 2015 represent a marked departure from his previous seasons. He's striking out at a 28.7 percent rate, after never whiffing more than 21.6 percent in any previous season. Cecchini's made much less of an impact since hitting the Triple-A level.

Cecchini (shoulder) was activated from the disabled list Sunday.

Cecchini served as the designated hitter for Triple-A Pawtucket, going 1-for-3 with a walk Sunday.

Cecchini was placed on the 7-day disabled list with left-shoulder inflammation, the Providence Journal reports.

The sweet-swinging Cecchini is batting .205 (8-for-39) through eight games this season.

Cecchini went 2-for-5 with a double, homer and two runs scored for Triple-A Pawtucket on Tuesday.

Cecchini, who's been primarily a third basemen the last two seasons, started in left field Tuesday. With Pablo Sandoval locked in at the hot corner in Boston, Cecchini will need to add some versatility in order to break onto Boston's roster. His hit tool is advanced; he just needs a position and the opportunity.

Cecchini was optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket on Thursday, Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe reports.

Cecchini would have seen limited reps in the majors anyway, as the recently-signed Pablo Sandoval is the clear favorite to be the full-time third baseman. A trip to the minors will allow the 23-year-old utility player to get more playing time, specifically at third base and left field, per Brian MacPherson of the Providence Journal.

Cecchini had three hits in Thursday's game against the Blue Jays and is hitting .333 (10-for-30) in 11 spring games.

The Red Sox are giving Cecchini good exposure this spring -- his 30 at-bats are a team high in camp. It almost seems that they're trying to spark interest in Cecchini, who doesn't have a clear path to the majors but is a good hitter on the cusp of being major-league ready.

Cecchini will continue to train at third base, but understands that the position is blocked at the major-league level by free-agent acquisition Pablo Sandoval, the Red Sox official' site reports. "I've always been told that good players don't get blocked from the Major Leagues. I've always believed that. I feel like I'm a good player and I feel like I can help the Red Sox win, so any way I can help them win, I'm capable of doing it," said Cecchini.

Cecchini may eventually move off third base -- first base or the outfield are likely landing spots -- but he has a sweet swing from the left-hand side and has a very positive attitude. He experienced his first bout of adversity of his pro career at the Triple-A level, but adjusted and had a good second half.

Cecchini had a hit, a walk, two runs scored and belted his first career homer in the major leagues in Wednesday night's win over Tampa Bay.

Cecchini also made a few good plays defensively, showing good range at third base. Publicly, the Red Sox continue to insist they haven't given up on Will Middlebrooks at third base, but if Cecchini's defense improves, he could challenge Middlebrooks for starts next season.

Cecchini will start at third base and bat eighth Friday against the Orioles.

Called up earlier in the week following the Triple-A National Championship, Cecchini will step in Friday for his first career start at the major league level. A fourth-round pick in 2010, Cecchini hit .285/.367/.462 in 35 games with Triple-A Pawtucket after the All-Star break to finish with a .263/.3431/.371 batting line with seven homers and 11 steals during the regular season.

Cecchini was recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket on Wednesday, Sean McAdam of CSNNE.com reports.

Cecchini ranks among the best of Boston's position prospects following the graduations of Xander Bogaerts and Mookie Betts to the big leagues, and he could very well get a long look at third base over the final week and a half of regular season. Will Middlebrooks has been a major disappointment at third base for most of the season, and though Cecchini can't match his power, his ability to steal bases, draw walks and make contact may be more meaningful skills. If Middlebrooks ends up getting dealt elsewhere in the winter, Cecchini might be the top internal candidate to handle third base duties in 2015.

Cecchini, who was hit in the face by a ball, has returned to the lineup for Triple-A Pawtucket. He missed two games after the incident.

Cecchini is 7-for-19 with seven RBI in four games since returning.

Cecchini took a ball off the face during Monday's game with Triple-A Pawtucket and had to leave the game, MiLB.com's Jake Seiner reports.

He was hit in the cheek/jaw, and it's possible he could have suffered a fracture. Given the fact that the Red Sox have thrown in the towel somewhat on this season, Cecchini could be up to challenge Will Middlebrooks for playing time at third base in September, but he would need to be healthy to do so. He has a .238 average with five home runs and 10 steals in 91 games at Triple-A this season, and his time as an impact player for fantasy owners doesn't appear to be coming until next season at the earliest.
