RHP Kyle Drabek signed a minor-league contract with San Francisco on Monday night, although he might be in line for a position change. "At our request, Drabek is taking ground balls and giving us a look at him as an infielder," Giants general manager Bobby Evans told ESPN. "But we're not ruling out his continuing with us from the mound." The No. 18 overall pick in the 2006 amateur draft is 8-15 with a 5.26 ERA in 43 career games (30 starts). He last pitched April 7 with Arizona.

RHP Kyle Drabek was purchased from Triple-A Reno on Tuesday to add bullpen length when RHP Silvino Bracho was optioned to Reno. With RHP Josh Collmenter (shoulder) on the disabled list, the D-backs did not have a true long reliever. Drabek, a high school teammate of Arizona 1B Paul Goldschmidt, was 1-0 with a 1.29 ERA in seven innings with the major league team in spring training. "He pitched very well for us in spring training," manager Chip Hale said. "He can go five, six, seven innings if we needed it. You always have to be prepared." A first-round draft pick by Philadelphia in 2006, Drabek is 8-15 with a 5.27 ERA in 42 major league games, 30 starts. He made three relief appearances with the White Sox last season.

Drabek passed through waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Charlotte on Wednesday, Colleen Kane of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Drabek was designated for assignment by the club Monday to make room for Carlos Rodon on the 40-man roster. His first three appearances weren't overly impressive, allowing three runs over 5.1 innings. He'll return to the minors, but could be one of the top candidates to rejoin the bullpen should an injury occur.
Mon Apr 20 201512:53Drabek designated for assignment by White Sox on Monday
Drabek was designated for assignment by the White Sox on Monday.
Drabek made three appearances in 2015 for the White Sox, allowing three earned runs on nine hits over 5.1 innings. His role as a long reliever was deemed expendable when the team decided to promote 2014 first-round draft pick Carlos Rodon to the Major League roster. Rodon needed both a 40-man roster spot and a role in the bullpen, both of which were stripped of Drabek. He'll now have the option to accept his designation to the Triple-A level, or elect free agency.

Drabek has earned an Opening Day roster spot as the final reliever out of the pen, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Drabek has been worked out as a starter in the past, but will earn his keep this season out of the bullpen in Chicago. He's pitched just 5.1 combined innings in the majors over the last two seasons, but the right-hander brings plenty of strikeout potential to the table. He'll have to pitch his way into earning the opportunity to appear in high-leverage situations, however.

The Blue Jays will swap out Drabek for Sergio Santos in their bullpen, despite Drabek's solid production since joining the major league squad. The former top starting pitching prospect made two appearances in relief for the Jays, tossing three scoreless innings and striking out five batters. He'll likely be back with Toronto when rosters expand Sept. 1.

Drabek was recalled by the Blue Jays on Saturday.
Drabek moved to the bullpen at Triple-A Buffalo in early July, and his last 10 appearances are reflective of his potential (five earned runs on 17 hits and no walks to go with nine strikeouts in 13 innings). Expect the 26-year-old hurler to be contained to low-leverage situations.

Blue Jays optioned RHPs Kyle Drabek and Chad Jenkins and LHP Sean Nolin to Triple-A Buffalo.
Drabek has always had control issues and that was no different this camp, as he walked six and hit a batter over his eight innings. He needs to log some minor league innings as he further distances himself from Tommy John surgery.

Mon Feb 17 201420:11Kyle Drabek 'stood out' for Blue Jays
Blue Jays pitching coach Pete Walker said that Kyle Drabek "stood out" during his first spring training bullpen session Monday.
"He was one guy that stood out for me today," Walker said. "His delivery looked sound, I love where his hands are right now. He located the ball down in the zone, his changeup was outstanding." Walker added that Drabek will be "in the mix" for a starting job if he can throw strikes, because "there's no question that's a major league-calibre arm." Drabek missed a good chunk of 2013 while working his way back from a second Tommy John surgery, but he's healthy now and the 26-year-old will try to show why he was once considered a top prospect. He'll most likely begin the year at Triple-A.
