Drabek has been worked out as a starter in the past, but will earn his keep this season out of the bullpen in Chicago. He's pitched just 5.1 combined innings in the majors over the last two seasons, but the right-hander brings plenty of strikeout potential to the table. He'll have to pitch his way into earning the opportunity to appear in high-leverage situations, however.

Drabeck remains in the mix for the White Sox's final bullpen spot, the team's official site reports.

Either he or Eric Surkamp will emerge from camp as the team's 11th pitcher, which will probably consist of a mix of long- and short-inning work.

Drabek will now finish out the remainder of camp with the White Sox, likely moving in line for a spot in the bullpen. The White Sox placed Nate Jones on the 60-day disabled list to open up a spot for him on the 40-man roster.

The Blue Jays will swap out Drabek for Sergio Santos in their bullpen, despite Drabek's solid production since joining the major league squad. The former top starting pitching prospect made two appearances in relief for the Jays, tossing three scoreless innings and striking out five batters. He'll likely be back with Toronto when rosters expand Sept. 1.

Drabek was recalled by the Blue Jays on Saturday.

Drabek moved to the bullpen at Triple-A Buffalo in early July, and his last 10 appearances are reflective of his potential (five earned runs on 17 hits and no walks to go with nine strikeouts in 13 innings). Expect the 26-year-old hurler to be contained to low-leverage situations.

Drabek has always had control issues and that was no different this camp, as he walked six and hit a batter over his eight innings. He needs to log some minor league innings as he further distances himself from Tommy John surgery.

Drabek is a long shot rotation candidate for the Blue Jays after returning from Tommy John surgery late last season. Realistically, he needs to prove himself in Triple-A for a month or two before getting a shot.

Blue Jays pitching coach Pete Walker said that Kyle Drabek "stood out" during his first spring training bullpen session Monday.

"He was one guy that stood out for me today," Walker said. "His delivery looked sound, I love where his hands are right now. He located the ball down in the zone, his changeup was outstanding." Walker added that Drabek will be "in the mix" for a starting job if he can throw strikes, because "there's no question that's a major league-calibre arm." Drabek missed a good chunk of 2013 while working his way back from a second Tommy John surgery, but he's healthy now and the 26-year-old will try to show why he was once considered a top prospect. He'll most likely begin the year at Triple-A.

An X-ray on Kyle Drabek's right ankle came back negative.

Drabek had to leave Wednesday's game after being hit by a comebacker, but he's avoided a serious injury. Consider the right-hander day-to-day.
