RHP Brandon Cumpton was outrighted to Triple-A Indianapolis on Nov. 6. He underwent Tommy John surgery in March 2015 and right shoulder surgery September 2015, and he missed the entire season. He expected to miss the entire 2016 season, too.

Cumpton was transferred to the 60-day disabled list Saturday.

Cumpton underwent Tommy John surgery in March, so the placement on the 60-day DL is mostly a procedural move. The 26-year-old hurler will miss the 2015 season because of the issue, but should return at some point in 2016.

Cumpton (elbow) was placed on the 15-day DL on Sunday, MLB.com reports.

Cumpton is set to miss the entire 2015 season after undergoing Tommy John Surgery in mid-March, so this move is merely procedural at this point. Expect a transfer to the 60-day DL to clear up a spot on the 40-man roster in the near future.

After feeling pain in his elbow during a BP session, Cumpton met with Andrews on Monday and it was almost immediately determined that he'd require surgery. The procedure will knock him out for the entire 2015 season.

Cumpton will visit Dr. James Andrews at some point next week regarding an issue with his elbow, Bill Brink of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Cumpton's injury must have surfaced at some point recently, and a visit to Dr. Andrews generally points towards the possibility of Tommy John surgery. More information on his situation should become available following the visit, which will come at some point next week.

Cumpton was recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis on Wednesday, Jenn Menendez of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

While the Pirates could probably use some middle relief help in the wake of Ernesto Frieri's designation for assignment, Cumpton won't be subjected to any high-leverage work out of the bullpen during this stint with the club. Instead, manager Clint Hurdle said Cumpton would replace Casey Sadler as a long reliever, making for an easier transition from his usual starting duties.
