OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — Athletics left-hander Jesús Luzardo will be off the mound for a while — and maybe off video games, too. Luzardo is out indefinitely after breaking the pinkie finger on his pitching hand when he thumped a table while playing a video game before his start Saturday. An X-ray after a loss to Baltimore showed a hairline fracture and Luzardo was put on the 10-day injured list Sunday. Oakland manager Bob Melvin said he didn't know an immediate timeline for how much time Luzardo would miss or whether he would require a cast or splint on the finger. LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Dodgers have acquired infielder Sheldon Neuse and minor league right-hander Gus Varland from the Oakland Athletics on Friday for left-hander Adam Kolarek and minor league outfielder Cody Thomas. Neuse spent last season at Oakland’s alternate site after hitting .250 the previous year for the A’s. Before his promotion in 2019, the 26-year-old infielder batted .317, hit 27 home runs and had 102 RBI in 126 games. Varland is a combined 2-2 with a 1.54 ERA and 77 strikeouts in 18 minor league games, including 15 starts. Kolarek made 20 appearances for the Dodgers last year, going 3-0 with a 0.95 ERA and 13 strikeouts. He was 5-0 with one save across 46 games and a 0.88 ERA in his Dodgers career. In major league seasons, he is a combined 11-3 with a 3.32 ERA. Thomas spent part of last season at the Dodgers alternate site. In 2019, he hit a career-best 23 homers and had 76 RBI with Double-A Tulsa. LOS ANGELES (AP) — Los Angeles Dodgers reliever Joe Kelly has been placed on the 10-day injured list with right shoulder inflammation.The team said the move is retroactive to Sunday, and left-hander Adam Kolarek was recalled from the alternate training site at the University of Southern California.Kelly hasn’t allowed a run over 6 1/3 innings in seven games this season. He has given up five hits to go with five walks and five strikeouts. Less than two weeks ago, Kelly was suspended by MLB for eight games for throwing two pitches near the heads of Houston hitters, a penalty he is appealing. The 32-year-old right-hander is on the IL for the fifth time in his career.Kolarek returns to the team after being optioned last Thursday.
