Tue Feb 1320:55Jason Adam Loses Arbitration Case With Rays
Tampa Bay Rays right-hander Jason Adam lost his salary arbitration case against the team on Tuesday. As a result, he'll earn $2.7 million in 2024 instead of the $3.25 million that he filed for. This was Adam's second year of arbitration eligibility. The 32-year-old reliever has been very reliable out of the bullpen for the Rays the last two seasons, going a combined 6-5 with a 2.22 ERA (3.38 FIP), a 0.87 WHIP, 20 saves, 37 walks and 144 strikeouts in 117 2/3 relief innings. Pete Fairbanks will open the year as Tampa's primary closer, but Adam should remain fantasy relevant in leagues that count holds as a high-leverage, late-inning reliever. Adam picked up 11 holds and 12 saves in his sixth major-league season in 2023.

Sat Sep 23 202301:14Jason Adam Dealing With Oblique Discomfort
Tampa Bay Rays relief pitcher Jason Adam (oblique) is headed for imaging after experiencing oblique discomfort during Friday's 6-2 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays. The right-hander just returned from a multi-week absence with an oblique strain, but this pain is in a different area and apparently more severe. Adam has been an invaluable member of Tampa Bay's bullpen in 2023, attaining a 2.98 ERA, 1.01 WHIP, and 69:20 K:BB with 12 saves across 54 1/3 innings, so it would be a big loss if he's facing another extended absence. Fantasy managers may want to prepare for the 32-year-old to be done for the remainder of the regular year as the Rays keep an eye toward the playoffs.

Fri Sep 22 202321:35Jason Adam Leaves With Apparent Injury
Tampa Bay Rays reliever Jason Adam left Friday night's game early. The early exit is thought to be because of injury, as he left with the trainer. This was the first appearance for Adam after recovering from an oblique strain. The righty has been an integral part of the Rays bullpen and of fantasy teams. He's picked up 12 saves on the year with a 2.98 ERA, 1.01 WHIP, and 69 strikeouts over 54 1/2 innings.

Thu Sep 21 202312:06Jason Adam Back From The Injured List
The Tampa Bay Rays reinstated right-hander Jason Adam (oblique) from the 15-day injured list on Thursday and optioned left-hander Jalen Beeks to Triple-A Durham in a corresponding move. Adam was on the shelf for three weeks due to a left-oblique strain but is now back with the Rays and ready to rejoin their bullpen for the stretch run and the postseason. The 32-year-old veteran has been great for Tampa as a high-leverage reliever in 2023 when he's been healthy, going 4-2 with a strong 2.67 ERA (3.76 FIP), 0.96 WHIP, a career-high 12 saves, 20 walks and 69 strikeouts in 54 relief innings. Adam may not see many more save opportunities the rest of the way, but he could be an asset in holds leagues again now that he's back.

Sat Sep 16 202300:00Jason Adam Set For Bullpen Session On Saturday
Tampa Bay Rays relief pitcher Jason Adam (oblique) is slated to throw a bullpen session on Saturday. The 32-year-old says his setback occurred during a warmup on Aug. 29, and an MRI revealed a minor oblique strain shortly thereafter. Adam is expected back in late September after tossing a 'pen session on Wednesday, too. The right-hander could next face hitters at Tampa Bay's complex, barring any setbacks. Pete Fairbanks has resumed his duties as the primary Rays closer in the absence of Adams, who's notched a reliable 2.67 ERA, 0.96 WHIP, 69 strikeouts, 12 saves, and four wins over 54 innings this year.

Sat Sep 2 202322:17Jason Adam Heading To The Injured List
Tampa Bay Rays right-hander Jason Adam (oblique) will be placed on the 15-day injured list with an oblique strain. He was unavailable for Saturday's game against the Guardians, and it's unclear when Adam suffered the oblique injury. The 32-year-old last pitched on Sunday. The right-hander owns a 2.67 ERA, 0.96 WHIP, and a 69: 20 K: BB across 54 innings in 2023. Adam was Tampa Bay's top setup man to primary closer Pete Fairbanks and will miss the next two weeks of action. Andrew Kittredge is next in line to handle high-leverage situations for the Rays while Adam is sidelined. Kittredge is mainly an option in fantasy leagues that account for the category holds.

Fri Jun 23 202301:20Jason Adam Blows Save Thursday
Tampa Bay Rays relief pitcher Jason Adam had a tough outing on Thursday, allowing two runs and taking a blown save in a 6-5 loss to the Kansas City Royals. Adam was called in as the set-up man in this one, working the eighth inning and handing it off the Pete Fairbanks. Alas, both men failed at their tasks in this one. It appears as though Adam is falling out of favor with Fairbanks back in the mix, as the latter has all three save opportunities since his return. If that continues, Adam's value will be limited to saves plus holds leagues or deeper rotisserie formats.

Tue Jun 6 202309:05Jason Adam Grabs His Ninth Save On Monday
Tampa Bay Rays right-hander Jason Adam recorded his ninth save of the season on Monday when his club defeated the Boston Red Sox 4-1. He threw one inning of work, allowing no baserunners and striking out a pair. Adam's sporting an impressive 2.84 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, and 32.1% strikeout rate over 25.1 innings after his latest outing. With closer Pete Fairbanks (hip) on the shelf for the time being, the 31-year-old should continue seeing the majority of save opportunities, making him a relevant fantasy option in every format.

Mon May 29 202300:35Jason Adam Records Multi-Inning Save
Tampa Bay Rays relief pitcher Jason Adam worked two scoreless frames to pick up his seventh save of the season in an 11-10 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers. Adam allowed only a walk and struck out four in a dominant effort. Notably, Pete Fairbanks was unavailable in this one after his hip locked up while he was warming up. If the issue persists, Adam will likely see the bulk of Tampa Bay's save opportunities. He should already be rostered in any leagues where saves matter, but if he isn't, now is the time to go get him

Tue May 9 202300:18Jason Adam Secures Fourth Save Monday
Tampa Bay Rays relief pitcher Jason Adam picked up his fourth save of the season in Monday's 3-0 win over the Orioles. Adam came in to pitch the bottom of the ninth inning up by three. He struck the first two hitters out, allowed a single, and got the final out on a third strikeout. Adam has taken over as the team's primary closer with Pete Fairbanks (forearm) on the injured list with right forearm inflammation. Adam was expected to see save opportunities even with Fairbanks healthy and has made the most of his increased role, posting a 1.17 ERA and 11.74 K/9 rate. The Rays are notorious for mixing their bullpen usage, but Adam should be rostered in at least all roto leagues at this time and should be kept whenever Fairbanks does return.

Fri May 5 202301:20Jason Adam Records Second Save
Tampa Bay Rays relief pitcher Jason Adam collected his second save of the season on Thursday, recording the final three outs to preserve a 3-2 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates. It wasn't the smoothest of outings for the righty, as he allowed two unearned runs after an error early in the frame made things shaky. He allowed a hit and a walk, but did strike out the side. It appears Adam has been thrust into the closer role with Pete Fairbanks (forearm) landing on the 15-day IL. Although Fairbanks said his injury isn't serious, forearm injuries (along with Raynaud's Syndrome) can easily flare back up. Knowing this, Adam should be owned in any league where saves are valuable, at least until we know Fairbanks is healthy.

Wed May 3 202300:20Jason Adam Earns First Save Of Season Tuesday
Tampa Bay Rays relief pitcher Jason Adam notched his first save of the season in Tuesday's 4-1 win over the Pirates. Adam came in to close things out up by three. He struck the first two hitters out, allowed a single, and then ended the game with a third strikeout. The 31-year-old has now converted half of his save opportunities to go with a stellar 1.59 ERA. The Rays are notorious for mixing up their late-inning bullpen use and Pete Fairbanks has seen the team's most save opportunities with three. However, his Raynaud's syndrome flared up during his outing last Friday, so that may have impacted Adam getting the opportunity. Either way, both Fairbanks and Adam are worth a roster spot in deep roto leagues, with the edge going to Fairbanks.

Sun Feb 12 202313:06Jason Adam Wins Arbitration Case
Tampa Bay Rays right-hander Jason Adam won his salary arbitration case against the team on Saturday and will make $1.775 million instead of the $1.55 million that the Rays offered. Despite the deal, the Rays could work out a contract extension for the 31-year-old pitcher this spring. In his first year with the Rays last season, Adam had a career-best 1.56 ERA (2.86 FIP), 0.76 WHIP, his first eight career saves and a career-high 75 strikeouts in 63 1/3 innings pitched in 67 relief appearances. Adam will have to compete with Pete Fairbanks for saves in Tampa in 2023, but there's a good chance he'll see even more save opportunities after an excellent year in 2022, pushing his fantasy needle to the upward position.

Tue Sep 13 202211:21Jason Adam Hit With Blown Save, Loss
Tampa Bay Rays relief pitcher Jason Adam blew the save and was hit with the loss in the 3-2 defeat at the hands of the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday night. In his inning of work, Adam allowed two earned runs on two hits (one homer) while walking one and striking out one. He entered the game in the eighth inning with a one-run lead but allowed a two-run bomb to shortstop Bo Bichette to lose the game. It was a hiccup in an otherwise excellent season for the 31-year-old right-hander, as he's posted a 1.54 ERA (2.83 FIP), a 0.69 WHIP, eight saves and 71 strikeouts in 58 1/3 relief innings for the Rays. He should continue to be Tampa's top setup man behind Pete Fairbanks despite Monday's subpar outing.

Tue Sep 13 202200:25Jason Adam Takes Late Loss Monday
Tampa Bay Rays relief pitcher Jason Adam was handed his third loss of the season in Monday's 3-2 game against the Blue Jays. Adam came in to pitch the eighth inning up by one. He allowed a leadoff single, got the first two outs on a groundout and strikeout, but then allowed a two-run home run before getting the final out on another groundout. The game ended with that score, making Adam the pitcher of record. Adam has been one of the many relievers used in high-leverage situations by the Rays this season and is now 2-3 with eight saves, 20 holds, and a 1.54 ERA. The lack of a defined role does limit his fantasy value in shallower leagues, but he is worth a look in all deeper leagues.

Wed Aug 17 202200:15Jason Adam Earns Four-Out Save Tuesday
Tampa Bay Rays relief pitcher Jason Adam earned his seventh save of the season in Tuesday's 3-1 win over the Yankees. Adam entered the game up by two with two outs in the eighth inning and a runner on first. He got Aaron Judge to ground into a force out to end the inning and stayed on to pitch the ninth, delivering a 1-2-3 inning with two strikeouts. Adam has pitched very well this season, compiling a 1.13 ERA with 16 holds and a 10.57 K/9 rate. He has also seen two of the Rays' three save opportunities over the last seven days, which is an encouraging sign. Adam is worth a look in deep roto leagues at this time given how well he has pitched, but fantasy managers should be wary of the Rays' reluctance to designate one bullpen arm to save situations.

Sun Aug 14 202216:32Jason Adam Records Sixth Save
Tampa Bay Rays relief pitcher Jason Adam was called upon to record the final two outs of Sunday's game against the Baltimore Orioles. Starting pitcher Drew Rasmussen nearly threw a perfect game before giving up a double to Jorge Mateo in the ninth inning. Luckily, Adam came in and continued his excellent season by closing the door on the O's. This notched his sixth save of the season in seven chances. Adam holds a 1.19 ERA, 0.63 WHIP and 52/9 K/BB ratio across 45 1/3 innings this season. He doesn't offer much fantasy value because he's not the full-time closer. That being said, he can be ignored in most fantasy formats, but is quietly having a fantastic season.

Wed Aug 3 202222:29Jason Adam Notches Fifth Save On Wednesday
Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Jason Adam struck out two in a perfect inning to earn the save in Wednesday's 3-2 win over the Toronto Blue Jays. He entered the ninth inning to protect a one-run lead. The 31-year-old needed 10 pitches to earn his fifth save of the year. He has been fantastic this season for the Rays, posting a 1.27 ERA, 0.63 WHIP, and a 51:8 K: BB across 42 2/3 innings in 2022. The Rays continue to use a bullpen by committee between Adam, Pete Fairbanks, Colin Poche, and Brooks Raley. Adam has more value in fantasy leagues that count saves and holds as a category but should be rostered in most formats as he provides excellent ratios with an occasional save.

Thu Jun 9 202216:13Jason Adam Converts His Second Save On Thursday
Tampa Bay Rays relief pitcher Jason Adam closed out the team's 2-1 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals on Thursday to earn his second save of the year. He pitched a scoreless ninth inning, allowing no hits and one walk while striking out one. Andrew Kittredge (elbow), who leads the Rays with five saves on the year, landed on the 10-day injured list on Thursday and he is expected to miss at least a month. Adam is now one of four active Rays relievers with multiple saves on the year. We're likely to see a variety of different relievers utilized in the ninth inning in the coming months. Adam has arguably been the best of the bunch with his 0.72 ERA and 0.64 WHIP on the year.
