Fri Jul 21 202312:53Drew VerHagen Could Return On Saturday
St. Louis Cardinals right-hander Drew VerHagen (hip) came through his one-inning minor-league rehab stint well on Thursday. If he recovers well on Friday, he could come off the 15-day injured list on Saturday to rejoin the Cardinals' bullpen. The 32-year-old reliever gave up a run on Thursday for Double-A Springfield, but he looks to be on the verge of returning to the big-league roster. VerHagen hasn't been fantasy relevant this year with his 4.78 ERA (4.85 FIP), 1.46 WHIP, 18 walks and 38 strikeouts in 37 2/3 innings pitched over 35 relief outings for the Red Birds. In eight major-league seasons, he's sporting a 5.19 ERA (4.92 FIP), 1.47 WHIP and 212 strikeouts in 258 1/3 innings over 181 appearances (eight starts).

St. Louis Cardinals right-hander Drew VerHagen (hip) will have season-ending hip surgery shortly, according to a team official. VerHagen injured his hip in April and won't make it back for the rest of the 2022 season. The 31-year-old had signed a two-year, $5.5 million deal with St. Louis in free agency. He'll end the season with just 21 2/3 innings under his belt in 19 relief outings, posting a 6.65 ERA, 1.89 WHIP, 18 strikeouts and 14 walks for the Red Birds. Mon May 9 202211:13Drew VerHagen To Make A Rehab Start On Thursday
St. Louis Cardinals right-hander Drew VerHagen (hip) is expected to throw a bullpen session in St. Louis on Tuesday and then make another rehab start at Double-A Springfield on Thursday. VerHagen was placed on the injured list on April 22 due to a right hip impingement, and he received an injection in his hip the following day. He gave up one run while walking one and striking out two in 1 2/3 innings in a rehab outing for Triple-A Memphis on May 3. VerHagen didn't make an expected rehab start for Memphis on May 7, but manager Oliver Marmol said it wasn't due to a setback in his recovery. Once he's ready to return, the 31-year-old should return to a long-relief role in St. Louis' bullpen.

The St. Louis Cardinals reopened MLB free agency on Friday by signing right-hander Drew VerHagen to a two-year, $5.5 million deal, according to a source.
