Thu Dec 21 202319:51Ty Blach Re-Signs With Rockies
Left-hander Ty Blach re-signed with the Colorado Rockies on a minor-league deal on Thursday, according to a source. The deal includes an invitation to big-league spring training. Blach had an opportunity to go and pitch in the Korean Baseball Organization as well but chose to stay in the Rockies organization. The 33-year-old left-hander hasn't been very great for Colorado the last two years, combining for a 4-3 record, 5.66 ERA (4.99 FIP), 1.55 WHIP, 35 walks and 79 strikeouts in 44 appearances (14 starts) covering 122 1/3 innings. Blach won't be on the fantasy radar at all and will be providing the Rockies with starting and relief depth in 2024. Blach has a career 5.18 ERA (4.57 FIP) and 1.47 WHIP in six big-league seasons with the Rockies, San Francisco Giants and Baltimore Orioles.

Thu Oct 19 202318:56Ty Blach, Two Others Outrighted By Rockies
The Colorado Rockies outrighted pitchers Ty Blach, Karl Kauffmann, and Matt Koch off of their 40-man roster on Thursday after all three went unclaimed on waivers. Blach and Koch can both elect to become free agents, while Kauffmann will remain in the organization on the outside of the 40-man looking in. The left-handed Blach is the longest-tenured big-leaguer of the bunch but has struggled mightily following a decent run with the Giants from 2017-18. He posted a 5.54 ERA across 20 appearances (13 starts) with the Rockies in 2023. Kauffmann struggled to an 8.23 ERA across 35 innings between the rotation and bullpen with the Rockies this season, while the right-handed Koch had a 5.12 ERA across 39 appearances, all but one of which came out of the bullpen.

Fri Jun 17 202214:36Ty Blach Has Thrown A Bullpen
Colorado Rockies relief pitcher Ty Blach (wrist) has thrown a bullpen session and his wrist has responded well. Blach will throw a simulated game on Friday after originally sustaining the injury in a collision with the Padres' Jurickson Profar on June 10. The hope is that his next appearances will be at Triple-A Albuquerque on a minor league rehab assignment. The 31-year-old left-hander is eligible to return from the injured list on June 26, but it remains to be seen if he'll return by that date. Before going down with his wrist injury, Blach had allowed 23 earned runs on 38 hits while walking nine and striking out 17 with one save in 31 1/3 innings over 15 outings (one start) for the Rockies.

Mon Apr 4 202221:33Ty Blach To Make Rockies Opening Day Roster
Colorado Rockies left-hander Ty Blach will be on the Opening Day roster, according to Nick Groke of The Athletic. The news comes after the announcement that Ryan Rolison (shoulder) will start the season on the 60-day injured list. Blach will be used as a long man out of the bullpen but could see some spot starts if an injury pops up. The 31-year-old has had a decent spring, posting a 4.00 ERA and 1.11 WHIP with six strikeouts in nine innings. He hasn't appeared in a big-league game since 2019 with the Baltimore Orioles when he pitched to the tune of a 12.00 ERA over 27 innings and five starts. Fantasy managers can pay little attention to Blach this season unless he can find a spot in the rotation and somehow find success that he's never found before.

Wed Mar 27 201900:19A's plan to platoon Hundley, Phegley at catcher
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — For the third time in five years, Nick Hundley is starting over. This time, the 35-year-old is part of a catching platoon in Oakland where he'll be splitting time with Josh Phegley. It's not unlike other situations Hundley has been through in his career. He spent the past two seasons behind Buster Posey in San Francisco, was a backup in Colorado and Baltimore prior to that, and split time as a starter over seven years in San Diego. With so much activity on his resume, Hundley has become accustomed to learning quickly, something that's come in handy as he tries to find a comfort zone with the Athletics."For a guy like him who's been different places and a veteran guy, it's easier for him to figure it out on the fly," manager Bob Melvin said prior to Tuesday's exhibition game in San Francisco. "Even though it's been a shortened spring, a guy like him figures it out pretty quickly. I'm not too worried about him learning our staff. He's caught everybody and understands the... [More]
Tue Mar 26 201906:17Orioles' Cobb to miss opener, goes on injured list
With opening day just around the corner, the list of notable players who are going to be absent keeps growing.World Series MVP Steve Pearce will start the season on the injured list for the Boston Red Sox, and Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Steven Souza Jr. went down with a knee injury Monday night when he slipped on home plate.Earlier in the day, Baltimore put scheduled opening-day starter Alex Cobb on the 10-day injured list with a strained right groin.Pearce exited an exhibition game last weekend due to discomfort in his left calf. The right-handed batter normally platoons with lefty-hitting Mitch Moreland at first base, but the Red Sox will begin defense of their championship Thursday in Seattle without Pearce."We have to do it that way," manager Alex Cora said. "It makes sense for us, it makes sense for him. He should be back sooner rather than later but he won't be ready for Seattle, so why take a chance?"Sam Travis will likely make the team and take Pearce's spot on the opening-day... [More]

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Oakland Athletics manager Bob Melvin took another step toward finalizing his pitching rotation Monday, announcing right-hander Frankie Montas will be the team's fourth starter. The 26-year-old Montas has had varied success during parts of two seasons with the A's but was dominant this spring after adding a splitter to complement a 97 mph fastball and slider. The new pitch produced immediate results as Montas went 2-0 with a 0.56 ERA in five games with 16 strikeouts and five walks over 16 innings. He joins an A's rotation that includes Mike Fiers, Marco Estrada and Brett Anderson."Deservedly so," Melvin said. "He's had a terrific spring, pitched well whether he was starting a game, whether he was piggy-backing with somebody, and continued pitching the same the entire spring — with some pressure on him knowing that he had to win a job. Proud of him. He deserves to be in the rotation."Melvin didn't use a projected starter in Oakland's 5-4 exhibition win over San Francisco,... [More]
