The Minnesota Twins agreed to a minor-league deal with free-agent catcher Tony Wolters on Thursday. Wolters will likely receive a non-roster invitation to major-league spring training, but the 30-year-old backstop will likely begin the 2023 season in the minor leagues. He played in just two big-league games in 2022 with the Los Angeles Dodgers and was hitless in four plate appearances with three strikeouts. Known as a glove-first catcher, Wolters has played in seven major-league seasons and has a career slash line of just .235/.321/.314 with a .635 OPS, seven home runs, 123 RBI, 131 runs scored and six stolen bases in 407 games played. Wolters figures to serve as organizational catching depth behind Christian Vazquez and Ryan Jeffers.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have reached an agreement with catcher Tony Wolters on a minor league deal. The 29-year-old played 14 games with the Chicago Cubs this season, but didn't have much success. Wolters put together have decent numbers earlier in his career with the Colorado Rockies. He'll mainly be catching depth for the Dodgers and can be avoided in fantasy leagues for the moment.

Means (4-0) struck out 12. Seattle’s Sam Haggerty raced to first after he struck out swinging on a curveball in the dirt on a 1-2 count with one outs in the third inning that bounced away from catcher Pedro Severino. Wolters can make $450,000 in performance bonuses for games: $50,000 each for 100 and 150, $75,000 apiece for 200 and 250, and $100,000 each for 300 and 350. PITTSBURGH (AP) — The Pittsburgh Pirates have signed veteran catcher Tony Wolters and veteran outfielder Brian Goodwin to minor league deals that include invitations to spring training. The team announced the signings Thursday. Pittsburgh is looking for an experienced backup behind starting catcher Jacob Stallings, a Gold Glove finalist in 2020. The Pirates are also in serious need of outfield depth, particularly in center field. Wolters, 28, spent the first five seasons of his big league career in Colorado, He hit .238 with seven home runs and 123 RBIs in 391 games with the Rockies. His best season came in 2019, when he hit .262 with a home run and 42 RBIs in a career-high 121 appearances. Goodwin is a career .250 hitter with 69 doubles, six triples, 42 home runs and 129 RBIs in 357 games for Washington, Kansas City, the Los Angeles Angels and Cincinnati.
