The 27-year-old Hoffpauir batted just .206/.250/.235 in 34 at-bats this season for the big-league Jays. He will try out for a backup infield job next spring in Padres camp but probably won't have much luck.

Blue Jays recalled 3B Jarrett Hoffpauir from Triple-A Las Vegas.

Fri Jul 2 201017:48Jays option 3B Hoffpauir to Triple-A
Blue Jays optioned third baseman Jarrett Hoffpauir to Triple-A Las Vegas.
One never can tell exactly what kind of game the Jays are playing. Hoffpauir's audition as the Jays' starting third baseman last all of nine games. He went 2-for-4 and delivered a nice sac bunt today, but it wasn't enough to save him after a 4-for-24 start.
Tue Jun 22 201018:09Hoffpauir to be Jays' everyday third baseman
Blue Jays manager Cito Gaston said that Jarrett Hoffpauir will be the team's everyday third baseman for now.
Hoffpauir was batting .328/.378/.532 with nine homers and 43 RBI with Triple-A Las Vegas this season while splitting time between second base and third base. The 27-year-old is a .288/.366/.427 lifetime hitter in the minor leagues, but he's not considered to be an asset defensively. That matters not to fantasy owners, as he is worth a shot in AL-only formats.

Sun Jun 20 201017:50Blue Jays summon 2B Hoffpauir from AAA
Blue Jays recalled second baseman Jarrett Hoffpauir from Triple-A Las Vegas.
Hoffpauir was hitting a scorching .332/.383/.539 on the farm this year and batted .291/.357/.486 in 358 at-bats for Triple-A Memphis last season. The 26-year-old should continue to hit in the majors, but he's below average defensively and lacks the versatility to make it as a utilityman. He's worth a flyer in deep AL-only leagues, but that's about it, for now.
