Mon Feb 13 202314:52Tigers Agree To Minor-League Deal With Matt Wisler
The Detroit Tigers have reportedly signed relief pitcher Matt Wisler to a minor-league deal, per a tweet from The Detroit Free Press' Evan Petzold on Monday morning. Petzold tweeted the following: "Sources: The #Tigers and right-handed reliever Matt Wisler have agreed to a minor-league contract with a non-roster invitation to spring training. Details not finalized yet. Wisler, 30, posted a 2.25 ERA with 14 walks and 35 strikeouts in 44 innings for the Rays last season." As of now, Detroit's current bullpen options on the team's 40-man roster include the likes of Alex Lange, Jason Foley, Will Vest, Tyler Alexander, Jose Cisnero, and Rony Garcia.

Fri May 6 202209:15Matt Wisler To Be Rays Opener On Friday
The Tampa Bay Rays will utilize right-handed pitcher Matt Wisler as an opener for Friday's game against the Seattle Mariners. Josh Fleming will work as a bulk reliever in the game. This will be Wisler's third start as an opener this year. The 29-year-old has a 1.50 ERA and a 1.00 WHIP over 12 innings on the season. Fleming, meanwhile, has struggled on the mound this year. He's made five appearances and he has pitched to a 6.32 ERA and a 1.85 WHIP while earning a 2-3 record.

Tue Apr 19 202211:14Matt Wisler To Serve As Opener Versus Cubs
Tampa Bay Rays right-hander Matt Wisler will serve as the opener on Tuesday against the Chicago Cubs on the road. Josh Fleming is expected to enter the game after Wisler and serve as the bulk pitcher in this one. Wisler has already made five relief appearances for the Rays this year, allowing one earned run on three hits while walking one and striking out six in 4 2/3 innings. Despite the good results, the 29-year-old should be avoided in fantasy in what will likely be, at best, a two-inning outing against Chicago. Fleming, who throws from the left side, has allowed three earned runs on 10 hits while walking one and fanning 11 in 6 2/3 innings over two outings (one start) in the early going.

Mon Oct 11 202114:39Matt Wisler Reaggravated Finger Injury
Tampa Bay Rays relief pitcher Matt Wisler (finger) suffered an injury to his right middle finger in Game 2 of the ALDS against the Boston Red Sox. It is the same injury that landed him on the injured list twice during the regular season this year. As of now, Wisler will remain on the team's roster, according to Rays manager Kevin Cash. "As we stand right now, he's just too valuable to go away [from]," Cash told reporters. Wisler had a rough outing in Game 2, giving up a two-run home run to J.D. Martinez. However, he went on to pitch a scoreless inning in Game 3, so he may be able to play through the injury at least for the rest of the ALDS.

Wed Sep 8 202121:49Matt Wisler Exits Early Wednesday
Tampa Bay Rays reliever Matt Wisler left Wednesday's game against the Boston Red Sox with an apparent injury, according to Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times. It's unclear what kind of injury occurred, with more information to come. Wisler, who was just activated from the injured list on Wednesday, has put up good numbers out of the Rays bullpen. He's sporting a 3.66 ERA with 10 holds, one save, a 32.3 K% and 5.4 BB%. Wisler has most of his value in leagues that count holds, but if he does take another trip to the injured list, he can be dropped for another arm.

Mon Aug 2 202106:51Matt Wisler Notches First Save
Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Matt Wisler allowed two hits while striking out one over a scoreless inning to earn the save during Sunday's 3-2 win over the Red Sox. He entered the game in the ninth inning and retired 3-of-5 batters faced to earn his first career save. The Rays turned to Wisler and not Andrew Kittredge for Tampa Bay's first save opportunity since trading incumbent closer Diego Castillo to the Seattle Mariners. Nick Anderson (elbow) and Pete Fairbanks (shoulder) are currently on the injured list but are expected to return in the next few weeks. Tampa Bay will use a closer by committee approach until Fairbanks or Anderson are able to return, but fantasy managers desperate for saves can add Wisler in the short term. The 28-year-old owns a 3.80 ERA, 1.08 WHIP, and 55 strikeouts over 42 2/3 innings in 2021.
