Tue Jan 3012:08Marlins Looking At Adalberto Mondesi
The Miami Marlins are still searching for a shortstop, and free-agent infielder Adalberto Mondesi is one consideration. Mondesi had surgery to fix his ACL in April of 2022 and was unable to get back onto the field while with the Boston Red Sox in 2023. The 28-year-old switch-hitter has plenty of speed when healthy, but he's a huge injury question mark after sitting out all of last season. He has stolen 133 bases in seven major-league seasons, all with the Kansas City Royals, but he's played in over 100 games just once in his career and has hit .233/.275/.392 with 12 home runs, 42 RBI, 44 stolen bases and 55 runs scored since the shortened 2020 campaign. At best, Mondesi will be a late-round fantasy flier for his speed on the basepaths if he were to land in Miami as their primary shortstop. As of right now, Jon Berti is penciled in at the 6 for the Fish.

Thu Aug 17 202318:52Red Sox Shut Down Adalberto Mondesi Again
The Boston Red Sox have shut down shortstop Adalberto Mondesi (knee) from baseball activities for the time being. The 28-year-old attempted to ramp things up and faced live pitching recently, but he's unfortunately back in shutdown mode. Mondesi tore his ACL in April of 2022 and just can't return his body to full health. The dynamic infielder has been limited to 50 games since 2021 due to several ailments, and simply can't get his career going as one of baseball's most oft-injured players. Fantasy managers holding onto the sliver of hope that Mondesi would return this season can probably pull the plug at this point with only a quarter of action left in the regular season.

Mon Aug 7 202321:30Adalberto Mondesi Increasing Baseball Activities
Boston Red Sox shortstop Adalberto Mondesi (knee) has been ramping up baseball activities of late. Mondesi posted a video of himself taking grounders, running, and hitting on Monday ahead of his team's game against the Kansas City Royals. The speedy infielder has not played in a game yet this season after injuring his knee and undergoing ACL surgery. It remains to be seen whether Mondesi makes it back to the field for the 2023 season or not.

Wed May 3 202322:57Adalberto Mondesi To Visit With Doctor
Boston Red Sox shortstop Adalberto Mondesi (knee) will visit with a doctor in Boston to determine the next step in his rehab from a torn ACL. For weeks now, Mondesi has been doing hitting and fielding drills, but he has yet to play in games or begin a minor-league rehab assignment. If doctors like what they see with the 27-year-old speedster, he could be on the verge of starting a rehab assignment in the minors. The switch-hitting middle infielder has yet to play in 2023 and has played in a total of 109 games the last three seasons with the Kansas City Royals due to injuries. Once considered an elite stolen base target in fantasy, Mondesi needs to prove he can stay on the field before fantasy managers will want him on their rosters again. The good news is he should see plenty of playing time at the 6 in Boston once he's ready to make his season debut.

Thu Mar 30 202312:19Adalberto Mondesi Placed On 60-Day Injured List
The Boston Red Sox placed shortstop Adalberto Mondesi (knee) on the 60-day injured list on Thursday. Mondesi is still recovering from a torn left ACL suffered last year, and now he won't be able to make his 2023 debut with Boston until at least May. The 27-year-old hasn't been able to stay healthy in his career, but he's worth stashing in deeper mixed leagues for his speed. He should see plenty of playing time at shortstop in his first year in Boston when he's healthy enough to return. Until then, Enrique Hernandez should see most of the playing time at the 6, with Christian Arroyo serving as Boston's primary second baseman.

Wed Mar 8 202315:19Adalberto Mondesi Works Out Wednesday
Boston Red Sox shortstop Adalberto Mondesi (knee) had a good day at spring training on Wednesday while hitting and taking ground balls. Mondesi is expected to increase his workload in the coming days in camp, but he's still not expected to be ready for Opening Day at the end of March. The 27-year-old could bump Enrique Hernandez back to the outfield when he's fully healthy. Mondesi entered the league with plenty of potential from a speed perspective, but injuries have hurt him recently. He suffered a torn ACL in 2022 and played in only 15 games for the Kansas City Royals. It's also possible that he could form a platoon with Hernandez at short when he's ready, which would limit his fantasy appeal in deeper leagues.

Tue Feb 14 202316:00Adalberto Mondesi Not Expected To Be Ready For Opening Day
Boston Red Sox chief baseball officer Chaim Bloom said he wouldn't bet on shortstop Adalberto Mondesi (knee) being ready for Opening Day. Mondesi is recovering from ACL surgery on his knee, and a best-case scenario would have him being ready for Opening Day as the Red Sox look to replace Xander Bogaerts and Trevor Story (elbow) at shortstop in 2023. The 27-year-old could also see some time at the keystone after coming over from the Kansas City Royals this offseason. With Mondesi likely to open on the injured list, Enrique Hernandez and Christian Arroyo figure to be the team's starting middle infielders. Mondesi has high-end stolen base potential, but he just hasn't been able to stay healthy in his career.

Tue Jan 24 202313:03Red Sox Acquire Adalberto Mondesi From Royals
The Boston Red Sox acquired infielder Adalberto Mondesi and a player to be named later from the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday in exchange for pitcher Josh Taylor, according to a source. Mondesi could open the 2023 season as Boston's primary shortstop now, which would allow utility man Enrique Hernandez to shift over to second. The BoSox also have Christian Arroyo as an option for the keystone, so the addition of Mondesi affords them more insurance and flexibility in the middle infield with Trevor Story (elbow) expected to miss the beginning of the season. The 27-year-old Mondesi tore his left ACL last May, but all indications are that he'll be ready for the upcoming campaign. Injuries have caused Mondesi's fantasy and real-life stock to take a major hit, but a bounce-back isn't out of the question considering his overall talent.

Thu Apr 28 202212:32Adalberto Mondesi Has A Torn ACL
Kansas City Royals president of baseball operations Dayton Moore said that shortstop Adalberto Mondesi (knee) has a torn ACL in his left knee. The Royals officially placed Mondesi on the 10-day injured list on Thursday and recalled outfielder Kyle Isbel and infielder Emmanuel Rivera from Triple-A Omaha in corresponding moves. Right-hander Brady Singer was also optioned to Omaha. Injuries continue to plague Mondesi, and he'll now miss the rest of the 2022 season, a major blow for the Royals and fantasy managers alike. The 26-year-old speedster played in just 35 games last year due to injuries and has become a major injury risk. Nicky Lopez will likely become KC's regular shortstop the rest of the way, with Whit Merrifield moving to the keystone.

Wed Apr 27 202221:37Adalberto Mondesi Expected To Hit Injured List
Kansas City Royals shortstop Adalberto Mondesi (knee) had his test results come back on Wednesday. Those results showed that he did do some structural damage to his left knee, which he tweaked during Tuesday's game. The Royals have yet to release an official timeline for Mondesi but he is expected to need a stint on the injured list. Mondesi has struggled with assorted injuries over his career, but he has also been one of the game's most dangerous base stealers when healthy. The 26-year-old is hitting .140 with three runs, three RBI, and five steals across 50 at-bats in 2022. Nicky Lopez should handle most of the work at shortstop in Mondesi's absence.

Wed Apr 27 202211:44Adalberto Mondesi Not Playing Versus White Sox
Kansas City Royals shortstop Adalberto Mondesi (knee) is not in the starting lineup for Wednesday's game against the Chicago White Sox. This is not shocking considering Mondesi was forced to exit early on Tuesday. The Royals don't expect Mondesi to miss significant time, but will have him undergo more testing. Nicky Lopez will bat leadoff and play shortstop versus righty Dylan Cease on Wednesday. Lopez could be worth looking at as a possible streaming option with Cease on the mound.

Wed Apr 27 202208:57Royals Encouraged By Initial Check On Adalberto Mondesi's Knee
Kansas City Royals shortstop Adalberto Mondesi (knee) suffered a left knee injury during Tuesday's game against the Chicago White Sox. The injury occurred while he was diving toward first base to avoid being picked off. He was replaced after the incident by a pinch runner. After the game, Royals manager Mike Matheny stated that Mondesi's knee was sore, but that the initial check on his knee was "encouraging." The 26-year-old will be further evaluated on Wednesday. It seems unlikely that he'll partake in Wednesday's game. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day until we hear more.

Tue Apr 26 202222:47Adalberto Mondesi Dealing With Knee Discomfort
Updating a previous report, Kansas City Royals shortstop Adalberto Mondesi (knee) left the game early on Tuesday against the Chicago White Sox with left knee discomfort. Mondesi was injured in the sixth inning while diving back to first base on a pickoff attempt and was removed for a pinch-runner. As of right now, fantasy managers should consider the 26-year-old day-to-day, but the Royals will likely re-evaluate him further on Wednesday. Mondesi had a hit and an RBI in three plate appearances in the game before departing, and he's now hitting just .140 with seven hits, no home runs, three RBI and five stolen bases in his first 54 plate appearances of the season. He's an excellent stolen base asset, but injuries have kept him from reaching his full potential.

Tue Apr 26 202221:31Adalberto Mondesi Exits Early With An Apparent Injury
Kansas City Royals shortstop/third baseman Adalberto Mondesi (leg) exited Tuesday's game against the Chicago White with an apparent injury. He tweaked his leg while turning back into first base on a pickoff attempt. He was replaced in the game by Edward Olivares. Mondesi went 1-for-2 with an RBI and a walk before exiting. The 26-year-old's injury is considered day-to-day, and more information about his injury should be known after the game. This season, Mondesi has racked up five stolen bases but is sporting a woeful .140 batting average. If Mondesi were to miss any games, Olivares would see an uptick in playing time. Stay tuned.

Fri Apr 22 202213:16Adalberto Mondesi Continues To Whiff
Kansas City Royals infielder Adalberto Mondesi is one of the top speedsters in the game today, but he can't steal if he doesn't get on base. Through 39 plate appearances, Mondesi has a .135/.179/.135 slash line with 13 strikeouts. He has yet to record an extra-base hit or a multi-hit game. While the stolen bases are certainly alluring, Mondesi may be too much of a drag in other areas to be worthwhile in fantasy, and with plenty of potential in the Kansas City organization, it may not be long before the Royals are forced to look to other options as well.

Fri Apr 15 202208:54Adalberto Mondesi Swipes Two Bags On Thursday
Kansas City Royals shortstop Adalberto Mondesi had his first two-steal game of the year in Thursday's 4-2 loss to the Detroit Tigers. He now has three stolen bases over six games on the year. Unfortunately, the stolen bases have been his lone contribution for fantasy managers thus far. He's gone just 3-for-21 at the plate with two walks, six strikeouts and no extra-base hits. Mondesi has the ability to be an absolute gem in rotisserie leagues and head-to-head categories league due to his elite stolen base potential. However, he'll need to increase his on-base percentage to something well above his current .217 OBP in order to both stick in the Royals' lineup and consistently provide fantasy managers with those highly-valued steals.

Sat Apr 2 202222:33Adalberto Mondesi Hitting .273 This Spring
Kansas City Royals shortstop Adalberto Mondesi is having a solid spring as he prepares for the start of the regular season. Mondesi is hitting .273 with one homer, four runs and three RBI across 22 at-bats. Injuries limited Mondesi to just 35 games in 2021, although the speedy infielder still managed to steal 15 bases while getting caught just once during the year. When fully healthy, Mondesi is one of the most dangerous base-stealers in all of baseball, although he hasn't brought much to the table in fantasy outside of his speed of late.

Mon Oct 4 202109:28Adalberto Mondesi Steals His 15th Bag In Season Finale
Kansas City Royals shortstop/third baseman Adalberto Mondesi failed to get a hit in the team's season finale against the Minnesota Twins on Sunday. However, he did reach base and he managed to steal his 15th base of the year and score a run as well. The 26-year-old dealt with multiple injuries this year and as a result, he only played in 35 games. To go along with his 15 stolen bases, he slashed .230/.271/.452 with six home runs, 17 RBI and 19 runs. Always a divisive figure in fantasy, next spring figures to be more of the same for Mondesi. However, his ADP should be even lower next year as he's coming off such an injury-plagued season.

Wed Sep 29 202118:14Adalberto Mondesi Getting A Breather On Wednesday
Kansas City Royals shortstop/third baseman Adalberto Mondesi is absent from the starting lineup for Wednesday's game against Zach Plesac and the Cleveland Indians. Hanser Alberto is getting the start at the hot corner and batting ninth in the game. Mondesi has been running wild in September, doing his best to make up for lost time after numerous injuries kept him sidelined for much of the year. He has 13 stolen bases on 13 attempts this month. Unfortunately, he's slashing just .187/.238/.307 in September. The 26-year-old should continue to give fantasy managers a boost in stolen bases over the second half of championship week, but it's hard to count on much else from him.

Tue Sep 21 202108:54Adalberto Mondesi Swipes Two Bags On Monday
Kansas City Royals shortstop Adalberto Mondesi has been doing his best to make up for lost time in September. In Game 1 of Monday's doubleheader against the Cleveland Indians, he went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and a run scored. He has now stolen 12 bases over 15 games this month. He is slashing just .204/.246/.333 across the month, but the stolen bases alone have made him an exceptional asset in all rotisserie and head-to-head categories leagues this month. The 26-year-old played in just 10 games this year before he was activated from the injured list on September 1. His strong finish will likely help make him one of the most divisive players in fantasy drafts come next spring.
