Wed Mar 2700:25Mike Yastrzemski Likely To Go On Paternity Leave To Start Season
San Francisco Giants outfielder Mike Yastrzemski is likely to go on paternity leave for the first Friday through Sunday of the 2024 regular season, per the San Francisco Chronicle's Susan Slusser. The 33-year-old and his family are expecting their second child, so he may miss some of the team's first few games. Yastrzemski has cooled off in his career after a few solid fantasy seasons and slashed .233/.330/.445with 15 home runs, 54 runs scored, 43 RBI, and two stolen bases in 381 plate appearances in 2023 while dealing with a left hamstring strain.

Wed Feb 2817:08Mike Yastrzemski Makes Spring Debut Wednesday
San Francisco Giants outfielder Mike Yastrzemski (shoulder) made his spring training debut on Wednesday, serving as the designated hitter and batting third in the lineup for the Cactus League game against the Oakland Athletics. Yastrzemski was held back a bit due to a left-shoulder impingement, but he has improved now and is ready to play in games as the DH. The 33-year-old should start playing the outfield soon and is fully expected to be ready for Opening Day in late March. Before he's cleared to play in spring games in the outfield, Yaz is scheduled to throw from 110-120 feet. Yastrzemski isn't going to give fantasy managers much help in the batting-average department, but he can provide decent counting stats in the strong side of a platoon in San Fran's outfield in deep-mixed and NL-only fantasy leagues if he can stay healthy.

Mon Feb 1913:05Mike Yastrzemski Dealing With Shoulder Impingement
San Francisco Giants outfielder Mike Yastrzemski (shoulder) is dealing with a left-shoulder impingement in camp and could miss the first seven to 10 days of spring training. He's currently throwing out to 90 feet and has no restrictions hitting. As long as Yastrzemski doesn't have any setbacks along the way this spring with his left shoulder, he should have plenty of time to be ready for Opening Day. The 33-year-old left-handed hitter will be in a strong-sided platoon for the Giants in 2024 in right field against right-handed pitching. Injuries are an issue for Yaz, but he at least rebounded a bit in 2023 with a .233/.330/.445 slash line in 106 games with 15 home runs, 43 RBI and 54 runs scored. He has plenty of value in deep-mixed and NL-only leagues and DFS lineups against righties.

Fri Nov 17 202322:52Mike Yastrzemski, Austin Slater Re-Sign With Giants
The San Francisco Giants re-signed outfielders Mike Yastrzemski and Austin Slater on Friday to avoid salary arbitration. Yastrzemski's deal will be for one year and $7.9 million for the 2024 season, while Slater signed for $4 million. Yastrzemski made his Giants debut in 2019 and impressed right away, hitting .272 with 21 home runs in 107 games. He hasn't been as good the last couple of years, though, and he hit .233 with 15 home runs in 2023 while missing time due to injuries. The 33-year-old can play all over the outfield, though, and will remain in play in platoon role again next year against right-handed pitching. Slater, 30, had two separate stints on the injured list due to a hamstring injury this year but hit a strong .270 with a .748 OPS and 20 RBI in 207 plate appearances. He should be ready for spring training after undergoing right-elbow surgery in October.

Sat Sep 23 202318:29Mike Yastrzemski On The Bench Versus Southpaw
San Francisco Giants outfielder Mike Yastrzemski is out of the starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Giants will play matchups here with left-hander Clayton Kershaw on the mound. That being said, Joc Pederson and Michael Conforto will join Yastrzemski on the bench for Saturday's game. Austin Slater, Tyler Fitzgerald and Luis Matos will cover the outfield for the Giants here.

Wed Sep 13 202314:25Mike Yastrzemski Taking A Seat Wednesday Versus Lefty
San Francisco Giants outfielder Mike Yastrzemski is not in the starting lineup Wednesday afternoon versus the Cleveland Guardians and left-hander Logan Allen. The lefty-swinging Yastrzemski hit leadoff and went 1-for-3 with a walk in his club's 3-1 loss to the Guardians on Tuesday night but will yield right field to youngster Luis Matos on Wednesday afternoon. It's been yet another productive season for the late-bloomer who is hitting .254 with 14 home runs, 51 runs, 39 RBI, and an .824 OPS across 89 games, production that grades out 23% above the league average, as per his 123 wRC+. Look for the 33-year-old to come into the contest when a right-handed reliever enters the game.

Wed Aug 30 202315:08Mike Yastrzemski Activated And Starting Wednesday
The San Francisco Giants activated outfielder Mike Yastrzemski (hamstring) from the 10-day injured list on Wednesday and optioned outfielder Luis Matos to the minors in a corresponding move. Yastrzemski is right back in the starting lineup on Wednesday, playing right field and batting sixth against Cincinnati Reds right-hander Hunter Greene. Yaz didn't require a minor-league rehab assignment despite missing the last month with a left-hamstring strain, so fantasy managers may not want to expect too much of him right away. The 33-year-old is mostly an outfield option in NL-only fantasy leagues against right-handed pitching. On the season as a whole, he's only batting .233 (59-for-253) with 11 home runs, 32 RBI and 43 runs scored in 253 at-bats for the Gigantes.

Tue Aug 29 202319:59Mike Yastrzemski Likely To Return Wednesday
It sounds as though San Francisco Giants outfielder Mike Yastrzemski (hamstring) will return from the injured list on Wednesday. Yastrzemski is going to return to the big-league roster without going on a minor-league rehab assignment, and he's been out since late July with a left-hamstring strain, so the Giants may choose to ease him back into the outfield fold down the stretch. Fantasy managers shouldn't be itching to add him off the waiver wire, either, as he was hitting .140 (6-for-43) with a homer and five RBI in 16 games (12 starts) after the All-Star break. The 33-year-old left-handed hitter provides very little in deep fantasy leagues. He is hitting .233/.314/.439 with 11 home runs, 32 RBI and 43 runs scored on the year in his 253 at-bats for the Giants.

Mon Aug 14 202320:48Mike Yastrzemski Suffers A Setback
San Francisco Giants outfielder Mike Yastrzemski (hamstring) suffered a setback with his hamstring injury while running the bases over the weekend, according to the team. Yastrzemski is going to give his hamstring another week of rest to see how it responds. The 32-year-old has been out with his hamstring ailment since late July and will now miss a little bit more of time. With Yaz still sidelined, the Gigantes recalled outfield prospect Wade Meckler, the team's No. 11 prospect per MLB Pipeline, and he's making his major-league debut on Monday night against the Tampa Bay Rays. When healthy, Yastrzemski is mostly an option for some power in deeper fantasy leagues. Before going on the IL, he was hitting .233 (59-for-253) with 11 homers, 32 RBI and 43 runs scored in 77 contests.

Sat Aug 12 202301:08Mike Yastrzemski Closing In On Return
San Francisco Giants outfielder Mike Yastrzemski (hamstring) ran the bases and handled a full workout before Friday's contest versus the Texas Rangers. The 32-year-old will next take live batting practice on Saturday, which puts him on track for a return in the imminent future, per Giants manager Gabe Kapler. Yastrzemski has required three separate trips to the injured list this season due to a balky left hamstring strain with the most recent coming on July 31. The lefty-hitter was slashing an icy .132/.270/.283 with just one home run, five RBI, and five runs scored across his prior 21 games (64 plate appearances) since July 4. Fantasy managers might be able to find a better stash on waiver wires since Yaz doesn't tend to play every day, either.

Sun Jul 30 202319:49Mike Yastrzemski Exits Early On Sunday
San Francisco Giants outfielder Mike Yastrzemski (hamstring) was forced to exit early during Sunday's game against the Boston Red Sox. This is a bit concerning considering this is the third time that Yastrzemski has battled a hamstring issue this season. At the moment, it's uncertain how serious this injury is as the Giants likely pulled him out as a precaution. It's unknown if he'll require a trip to the injured list, so fantasy managers will have to check back for more information.

Tue Jul 25 202321:09Mike Yastrzemski Sitting Tuesday
San Francisco Giants outfielder Mike Yastrzemski is absent from Tuesday's lineup for the matchup against Tayler Scott and the Oakland Athletics. The 32-year-old is slashing .225/.305/.426 with 11 homers, 41 runs, 30 RBI, and one stolen base over 72 games. Luis Matos will take Yastrzemski's spot in center and bat second. The rookie 21-year-old rookie hasn't impressed too much through 33 games this season, as he's hitting .259 with one homer and three steals. Matos is a good option in dynasty leagues, but it's not a bad idea to leave him on the wire in redraft formats.

Mon Jul 3 202322:35Mike Yastrzemski Activated From Injured List
The San Francisco Giants activated outfielder Mike Yastrzemski (hamstring) from the 10-day injured list on Monday, and he was immediately back in the team's starting lineup against the Seattle Mariners and right-hander Bryan Woo, starting in right field and batting fifth in the lineup. The 32-year-old left-handed hitter went hitless in five at-bats (eight plate appearances) with four strikeouts in two minor-league rehab games for Triple-A Sacramento before being activated. Yaz should play pretty regularly in San Fran's outfield against right-handed pitching now that he's back. He was hitting .259 (51-for-197) with 10 homers, 12 doubles, a triple, 27 RBI and 37 runs scored in 55 games played before his injury.

Thu Jun 29 202319:34Mike Yastrzemski Could Return Sunday Or Monday
San Francisco Giants outfielder Mike Yastrzemski (hamstring) is doing well in his recovery from a left-hamstring injury and could come off the injured list on Sunday or Monday. It's more likely that he'll return on Monday, given that the Giants will be in New York facing the Mets this weekend. Yaz was put on the injured list last week, but he's doing well and should return from an injury that wasn't all that serious. The 32-year-old left-handed hitter will be returning to a .259/.324/.482 slash line with an .806 OPS, 10 home runs, 12 doubles, a triple, 27 RBI and 37 runs scored in his 55 games. Yastrzemski doesn't run but is a useful fantasy commodity for his power stroke when the Giants are facing right-handers. He's a career .226 (98-for-434) hitter with only 18 home runs in 261 games against left-handers.

Fri Jun 23 202322:01Mike Yastrzemski Lands On The Injured List
San Francisco Giants outfielder Mike Yastrzemski (hamstring) was placed on the 10-day injured list on Friday night. The 32-year-old exited Wednesday's meeting with the San Diego Padres because of left hamstring tightness, with a subsequent MRI revealing some inflammation. Yastrzemski has been on a roll, batting .313 with four home runs, 11 RBI, and nine runs in his last eight games, so hopefully he'll pick up where he left off once he's ready to return. In a corresponding move, Isan Diaz was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento to fill the void.

Thu Jun 22 202309:10Mike Yastrzemski Suffers Hamstring Injury Wednesday
San Francisco Giants outfielder Mike Yastrzemski left Wednesday's contest against the San Diego Padres in the fifth inning after experiencing left hamstring tightness. According to the SF Giants on NBCS Twitter, he'll undergo an MRI on Thursday, which should provide more information on the severity of the ailment. Yastrzemski is in the midst of a solid season, slashing .259/.324/.482 with 10 homers, 37 runs, and 27 RBI over 55 games. That's good production in any format, and fantasy managers should keep their fingers crossed that it's just a minor issue. Stay tuned for more updates and consider the 32-year-old day-to-day.

Tue Jun 20 202302:01Mike Yastrzemski Goes Deep Twice, Walks It Off
San Francisco Giants outfielder Mike Yastrzemski closed 3-for-5 with two home runs, four RBI, and three runs scored in Monday's extra-inning, walk-off 7-4 triumph over the San Diego Padres. The 32-year-old's first bomb was a solo shot off a Michael Wacha hanging changeup. Yastrzemski later played hero, dunking a game-winning three-run blast into McCovey Cove. The southpaw has mostly disappeared from the fantasy radar since his 2020 breakout, but he's slashing an improved .257/.321/.487 with 10 dingers and 26 RBI following this massive night. Perhaps this effort spurs some consistency out of Yastrzemski, but fantasy managers should wait for a few more encouraging showings before aggressively scooping him up off waiver wires.

The veteran outfielder is hitting .292 with five homers, 16 runs, and 14 RBI in 2023. The Giants placed outfielder Joc Pederson (hand) on the injured list in a corresponding move to make room for Yastrzemski.

Sun Apr 30 202319:46Mike Yastrzemski Suffers Injury On Sunday
San Francisco Giants outfielder Mike Yastrzemski (hamstring) was forced to exit early during Sunday's game against the San Diego Padres. He suffered a left hamstring strain while diving in an attempt to make a catch on Matt Carpenter's go-ahead two-run double. The severity of the injury is unknown, so it's unclear how much time Yastrzemski is going to miss right now. Fantasy managers will have to check back for an update on his status prior to Monday's contest. Yastrzemski could very well be forced onto the injured list, but hopefully it's only a day-to-day issue.

Thu Apr 27 202315:43Mike Yastrzemski Back In Lineup Thursday
San Francisco Giants outfielder Mike Yastrzemski (side) is back in the starting lineup on Thursday against the St. Louis Cardinals and right-hander Miles Mikolas, starting in center field and hitting sixth in the batting order. Yastrzemski was scratched from Wednesday's lineup with tightness in his left side, but it turned out to be nothing too serious, as he's back in action a day later. The 32-year-old lefty hitter is hitting a strong .291 (25-for-86) with six doubles, five home runs, 13 RBI and 15 runs scored in his first 22 games, including going 19-for-58 (.328) with all six of his doubles and four of his five home runs against right-handed pitching. Fantasy managers will want to get him back into their starting lineups Thursday.
