Linebrink will stretch it out to 120 feet before throwing off flat ground. The hope is that he'll be ready to throw off a mound by the Cardinals' current seven-game homestand. The veteran right-hander has been on the disabled list all season with right shoulder capsulitis.

He threw 25 pitches in the first of what should be two or three sessions. It's a step in the right direction for Linebrink, who hasn't pitched since spring training. If all goes well, he could return to the Cardinals by mid-May.

Scott Linebrink has flown back to St. Louis to undergo an MRI on his sore right lat.
The 35-year-old right-hander is expected to land on the 15-day disabled list and the Cardinals are expected to promote reliever Victor Marte. Linebrink posted a cool 0.93 ERA in 9 2/3 innings this spring but apparent came down with some inflammation before the Redbirds headed north.

In other words, Linebrink has officially been added to the 40-man roster and will make the Cardinals' bullpen. The 35-year-old right-hander has an 0.93 ERA and 2/1 K/BB ratio over 9 2/3 innings this spring and should pitch in middle relief for St. Louis.

Linebrink skipped a scheduled live batting practice session late last week after tweaking his right hamstring during a conditioning drill. The 35-year-old right-hander is already back on track, and will continue fighting for a spot in the Cardinals' Opening Day bullpen.

Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times reports that the Angels are interested in free agent right-hander Scott Linebrink.
Linebrink, 35, posted a 3.64 ERA and 42/21 K/BB ratio over 54 1/3 innings with the Braves this season. The Angels have shown interest in several right-hander relievers so far this offseason and DiGiovanna suspects that Joe Nathan will soon be added to the list.

Linebrink became the third reliever this season to lose a game after giving up a homer on his first pitch. For those playing at home, Mike Adams and Darren Oliver are the others. Owning a 3.20 ERA and 1.35 WHIP, Linebrink remains a fairly dependable option in the Braves' bullpen.
