Mitchell was released by the White Sox on Sunday, Dan Hayes of CSN Chicago reports.
Mitchell simply couldn't get it going at the plate at any level, and when a roster spot was needed for Tyler Colvin, he was ultimately deemed expendable. A fresh start elsewhere may be just what the doctor ordered for the 26-year-old outfielder.

The White Sox outrighted Mitchell to Triple-A Charlotte on Thursday, Colleen Kane of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Mitchell has not lived up to the potential that made him a first-round pick in 2009, so the White Sox decided his spot on the 40-man roster would be better used on a different player.

The White Sox promoted Mitchell to Triple-A Charlotte on Saturday, CSN Chicago reports.
He will replace the recently-traded Blake Tekotte in the Knights' outfield. Mitchell was demoted from Charlotte to Double-A Birmigham earlier in the season, but he cut down his K's and upped his power (.262 ISO) to earn the re-promotion. Still, time may be running out for the former first-round pick. He turns 26 in October and has a .200/.330/.315 line in 103 career games at the Triple-A level.
Mon Apr 29 201313:59Jared Mitchell (oblique) placed on minors DL
White Sox outfield prospect Jared Mitchell was placed on the 7-day disabled list with a strained right oblique.
Mitchell was sent down to Double-A after batting just .132 (7-for-53) with two extra-base hits (zero homers) and 27 strikeouts in 12 games with Triple-A Charlotte, so this provides some context for his early struggles. He had a good spring with the White Sox, but the injury will slow his track to the big league level.

White Sox optioned OF Jared Mitchell to Triple-A Charlotte.
The 24-year old former first round pick showed off some of his promise, hitting .367 (11-for-30) with a homer, five RBI and a pair of steals in 13 spring games. The White Sox outfield was just too crowded for him to crack the Opening Day roster. Expect to see him at the big league level at some point during the 2013 season.

Sat Jan 26 201320:48White Sox believe Mitchell could have impact
The White Sox believe that outfielder Jared Mitchell could have an impact at the major league level in 2013.
The former first round pick is fully recovered from an ankle injury he suffered in 2010, and has been drawing rave reviews from the team's instructional league this offseason. He has troubled to make consistent contact, but possesses an intriguing blend of power and speed and could compete for a reserve outfielder's role in spring training.
