Tue Sep 1420:31Jacob deGrom Throws Off A Mound On Tuesday
New York Mets starting pitcher Jacob deGrom (elbow) threw 10 pitches off of a mound on Tuesday, according to MLB.com's Anthony DiComo. This was of course a light session, but it was also a big step in deGrom's recovery as this was his first bullpen work since he was shutdown in July. Last week, it was revealed that deGrom had a sprain and partial tear of the UCL in his right elbow. However, on the bright side, his ligament injury has reportedly healed. deGrom remains without a timeline for a return, but it seems very unlikely at this point that he will return before the end of the regular season, despite the positive step on Tuesday.

Wed Sep 809:35Jacob deGrom Dealing With Sprained UCL
New York Mets president Sandy Alderson reported on Tuesday that Jacob deGrom (elbow) is dealing with a sprain/partial tear of the UCL in his right elbow. Alderson went on to emphasize that deGrom is fine now and that the ligament injury has "resolved itself." Clearly, Alderson was downplaying the severity of the issue if the ligament is, in fact, partially torn. At this point, it remains unclear whether deGrom will return this season. Alderson's comments on Tuesday only served to create more questions about deGrom's situation in terms of whether the elbow injury is a sprain that can resolve itself or a tear that cannot. deGrom is 7-2 with a 1.08 ERA, 0.55 WHIP, 146 strikeouts and just 11 walks in 92 innings over 15 starts in 2021. Managers in redraft formats may wish to hold onto deGrom with the slim hope that he could get in a start or two before the end of the season. That said, the clock is ticking and it is looking less likely deGrom will pitch again in 2021.

Wed Aug 2519:22Jacob deGrom's MRI Looks Great
New York Mets starting pitcher Jacob deGrom's (elbow) MRI exam on Wednesday looked great, and the team now plans to ramp up his throwing program. deGrom was spotted playing catch at Citi Field prior to the game Wednesday, but the right-hander still has hurdles to clear before he can rejoin New York's starting rotation as the ace. Despite the good news, the 33-year-old is running out of time in the second half of the season to contribute for both the Mets and fantasy managers. deGrom's elite talent level makes him worthy of holding onto in all leagues, just don't expect too much from him from here on out. The four-time All-Star and two-time Cy Young winner has battled injuries for much of the year but is still 7-2 with a 1.08 ERA, 0.55 WHIP, 146 strikeouts and just 11 walks in 92 innings over 15 starts in 2021.

Wed Aug 2515:27Jacob deGrom Resumes Throwing On Wednesday
New York Mets starting pitcher Jacob deGrom (elbow) resumed throwing on Wednesday afternoon after a follow-up MRI. While results of his MRI on Wednesday have not yet been disclosed, it is obviously a good sign that deGrom resumed a throwing program. deGrom is currently on the 60-day injured list and not eligible to come off of it until September 13. Notwithstanding the good sign on Wednesday, it remains unlikely the Mets will activate deGrom for the final two weeks of the season and risk re-injury. Of course, fantasy managers with room to hold deGrom in redraft leagues can hold out hope that he will pitch a couple of times before the end of the regular season. deGrom has posted a 1.08 ERA, a 0.55 WHIP, a 45.1 K%, a 3.4 BB%, and 146 strikeouts over 92 innings pitched in 15 starts in 2021.

Tue Aug 2418:41Jacob deGrom Scheduled For Follow-Up MRI
New York Mets starting pitcher Jacob deGrom (elbow) is scheduled for a follow-up MRI on Wednesday. The right-hander has been basically shutdown since July due to a lingering elbow issue. He would need to build back up through throwing off flat ground, bullpen sessions, and likely rehab outings. It's uncertain if deGrom will pitch again for the Mets this season. Fantasy managers should continue to hold him for the moment, but don't get your hopes up for deGrom pitching for the Mets again in 2021.

Fri Aug 2015:39Jacob deGrom Transferred To 60-Day Injured List
New York Mets starting pitcher Jacob deGrom (elbow) was transferred to the 60-day injured list on Friday, essentially ending his 2021 campaign. deGrom is now eligible to come off the IL on September 13 (at the earliest), but it is unlikely the Mets will activate him for the final two weeks of the season based on earlier reports. This is a sad end to what was a historic start to his 2021 campaign. In all likelihood, deGrom will finish 2021 with a 1.08 ERA, a 0.55 WHIP, a 45.1 K%, a 3.4 BB%, and 146 strikeouts over 92 innings pitched in 15 starts. deGrom should be kept in dynasty leagues, but now dropped in all redraft formats.

Thu Aug 1914:07Jacob deGrom Likely Won't Be Back This Season
New York Mets starting pitcher Jacob deGrom (elbow) is expected to miss the rest of the season, according to Pat Ragazzo of Sports Illustrated. deGrom has been out since his last start on July 7 after experiencing right forearm tightness. This is a huge blow to fantasy managers, as deGrom was running away with the NL-Cy Young Award. He was having one of the best pitching seasons in MLB history, posting a 1.08 ERA, 45.1 K%, and 3.4 BB% across 15 starts and 92 innings. He should be kept in dynasty leagues, as he should be back next season. However, he can be dropped in redraft leagues if there's no room to stash him.

Wed Aug 1819:26Jacob deGrom Might Miss Rest Of The Season
New York Mets starting pitcher Jacob deGrom (elbow) might be shut down for the remainder of the season, according to Pat Ragazzo of Sports Illustrated. Ragnazzo reports that with the Mets' playoff chances starting to fade, the team is leaning towards shutting deGrom down for the remainder of the season while he continues to deal with right elbow inflammation. deGrom has been shut down since the All-Star break, going 7-2 with a 1.08 ERA, 0.554 WHIP and 45.1 percent strikeout rate over 92 innings in the first half of the season. While it's not official yet, managers should start preparing for the fact that deGrom might not pitch again in 2021.

Mon Aug 1620:24Jacob deGrom To Remain Shut Down Following Check-Up
New York Mets starting pitcher Jacob deGrom (forearm) had a check-up on Monday, and the results out of that appointment did not change his current two-week shutdown from throwing, according to Tim Britton of The Athletic. There were reports earlier on Monday that he would be getting examined again, but it appears there were no significant changes to his condition. deGrom has been sidelined since the beginning of July with forearm tightness, and at this point it's looking like we won't see him return to action until mid-September at the earliest. Managers should hang onto him in case he returns this season, as he can help down the stretch in the fantasy playoffs. However, managers should not rely too heavily on his return.

Mon Aug 1612:05Jacob deGrom Gets Check-Up On Monday
New York Mets starting pitcher Jacob deGrom (forearm) is scheduled to undergo a check-up on Monday. Manager Luis Rojas mentioned on Friday that deGrom will be shut down an additional two weeks. It's uncertain what kind of news will come from this check-up. Although, it doesn't sound like deGrom is going to take the mound anytime soon. Right now, it seems like a long shot that deGrom is able to give the Mets significant innings in September. Fantasy managers leaning on deGrom need to start looking for another option.

Fri Aug 1316:49Jacob deGrom Won't Throw For Two Weeks
New York Mets starting pitcher Jacob deGrom (elbow) won't throw for at least two more weeks, according to Justin Toscano of The Record. deGrom has been on the shelf since July 18, but before hitting the injured list, he was having a year to remember. He has a 1.08 ERA, 0.55 WHIP, 146 K and 11 walks across 92 innings this season. Once he returns he should continue being the top pitcher in baseball, assuming there are no lingering effects. However, there is no timetable for his return, so fantasy managers will have to stay patient.

Thu Aug 1211:49Jacob deGrom To Have MRI
New York Mets starting pitcher Jacob deGrom (elbow) will undergo an MRI in the next few days, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. If the MRI comes back clean, then he will restart his throwing program. He has been out of action since July 7 and landed on the IL July 18 with right forearm tightness and was dealing with elbow inflammation unrelated to his forearm afterward. There is no timeline for his return yet. Before his injury, he was arguably having his best season yet with a 1.08 ERA, 45.1 K%, 3.4 BB%, and just six home runs allowed over 92 innings. Fantasy managers are yearning for a deGrom return, and he should continue to be dominant once he's back.

Tue Aug 317:36Jacob deGrom Confident He'll Pitch Again This Year
On Tuesday, New York Mets starting pitcher Jacob deGrom (elbow) spoke to reporters for the first time since he had been shut down from throwing. He said that he was dealing with elbow inflammation, which is unrelated to the forearm tightness he dealt with earlier this season. He explained that his elbow had felt fine all year prior to this recent development. He told the reporters that he was confident he would pitch again this year. There of course isn't a clear timetable for deGrom's recovery still, so fantasy managers in all formats will need to remain patient and reserve an IL spot for him for the time being.

Sat Jul 3102:55Joey Votto homers for 7th straight game, 1 shy of MLB record
NEW YORK (AP) — Joey Votto homered for the seventh straight game, one shy of a major league record, and the Cincinnati Reds beat the New York Mets 6-2 on Friday night. Jonathan India went deep twice for the Reds, including a leadoff shot that came on Carlos Carrasco’s first pitch with the Mets. Acquired from Cleveland in January, the veteran right-hander finally made his New York debut after recovering from a hamstring injury. It was an up-and-down day for the Mets, who made a big deal to get Javier Báez from the Chicago Cubs before baseball’s trade deadline — and then revealed injured ace Jacob deGrom will be shut down for two more weeks because of inflammation in his pitching elbow, making it unlikely he’ll rejoin the NL East leaders before September. Báez was acquired from the Cubs along with right-hander Trevor Williams for outfield prospect Pete Crow-Armstrong, the Mets’ first-round pick in the 2020 amateur draft. Báez is expected to join the Mets on Saturday and ... [More]

Sat Jul 3101:55Mets get Báez, Williams from Cubs for outfield prospect
NEW YORK (AP) — Javier Báez got his wish: He's headed to New York to play with Francisco Lindor. But first, the Mets are counting on their big-name newcomer to replace his good buddy at shortstop for a while. With the trade deadline fast approaching Friday, the NL East leaders acquired Báez and pitcher Trevor Williams from the Chicago Cubs for outfield prospect Pete Crow-Armstrong. Báez, a two-time All-Star and 2020 Gold Glove winner, gives New York an immediate fill-in for Lindor. The star shortstop, obtained from Cleveland in a blockbuster deal last winter, is sidelined with a strained oblique and not expected back until at least mid-to-late August. “I’m super excited. I couldn’t be happier," Lindor said. "I can’t wait for him to come out here and put on a show for everybody.” The flashy Báez, who can become a free agent after the season, is batting .248 with 22 home runs and 65 RBIs. He has a .775 OPS and 13 stolen bases in 16 tries, but also leads the National Leagu... [More]
