Wed Mar 1307:29Teoscar Hernandez Enjoying Strong Spring
Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Teoscar Hernandez went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer in Tuesday's Cactus League victory against the rival San Francisco Giants. Hernandez has been off to a hot start this spring with his third club in three seasons. The 31-year-old is now hitting .414 with one homer and four RBI over 29 at-bats. Apart from a shortened 2020 season, Hernandez hasn't hit less than 22 homeruns since 2018. With the Dodgers huge offseason, his signing may have flown under the radar, but managers should not forget to consider the outfielder as a solid OF2/3 option in mixed leagues.

Fri Feb 2301:25Teoscar Hernandez Drives Home Two In Spring Opener
Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Teoscar Hernandez went 1-for-3 with a two-run double against the San Diego Padres on Thursday. Los Angeles never relinquished its early lead, slamming the door on their divisional foes by a score of 14-1. This was Hernandez's first game as a Dodger and he certainly made an impact, plating Mookie Betts and Chris Taylor with his extra-base hit. His contact skills, power, and job security give him significant fantasy value for the upcoming campaign.

Tue Jan 1620:32Teoscar Hernandez To "Be An Everyday Guy"
Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Teoscar Hernandez will "be an everyday guy" in his first year with the team in 2024, according to general manager Brandon Gomes. The Dodgers added Hernandez on a one-year, $23.5 million deal this offseason following a disappointing 2023 campaign with the Seattle Mariners in which he slashed .258/.305/.435 with 26 hoe runs, 29 doubles, two triples, 93 RBI, seven stolen bases and 70 runs scored in 160 games played. An everyday role in a much better lineup is going to raise the 31-year-old's fantasy draft price by itself. Despite decent counting stats for Seattle last season, Hernandez posted the lowest OPS (.740) since his rookie year and he struck out 31 percent of the time. Moving out of a pitcher-friendly park in Seattle should help him bounce back for the Dodgers. Hernandez is a buy candidate with 30-homer potential.

Mon Jan 800:11Teoscar Hernandez, Dodgers Agree On One-Year Deal
Free-agent outfielder Teoscar Hernandez and the Los Angeles Dodgers have reached an agreement on a one-year, $23.5 million contract. ESPN's Jeff Passan notes that the corner-outfield market is tough, and Hernandez opted for a big one-year deal over other multiyear offers. The Toronto Blue Jays traded Hernandez to the Seattle Mariners last offseason, and he put together an up-and-down campaign overall in 2023. The 31-year-old two-time Silver Slugger slashed .258/.305/.435 with 26 home runs, 93 RBI, 70 runs scored, and seven stolen bases over 678 plate appearances in 160 games last year. The Dodgers could be a favorable landing spot for fantasy purposes, but L.A.'s loaded lineup may also force Hernandez to frequently occupy the lower-third of the batting order against right-handed pitching. With David Peralta remaining unsigned, however, Hernandez still looks set to be the primary left fielder at Chavez Ravine for 2024.

Fri Jan 520:03Three Front-Runners For Teoscar Hernandez
The Los Angeles Angels, Los Angeles Dodgers and Boston Red Sox appear to be the front-runners to sign free-agent outfielder Teoscar Hernandez, a two-time Silver Slugger winner. Some are speculating that Hernandez will wait for Cody Bellinger to sign before inking his own deal, but the Angels, Dodgers and Red Sox aren't in on Bellinger, which could open the door for them to make an aggressive move on him. The 31-year-old was an All-Star in 2021 but disappointed in 2023 with the M's, hitting 26 home runs with a .740 OPS and a career-high 211 strikeouts in 160 games in spacious T-Mobile Park. He was ranked near the bottom of the league in chase percentage (13th percentile), walk rate (13th percentile), strikeout rate (ninth percentile) and whiff percentage (third percentile), so Hernandez will be hoping a change of scenery does him well.

Wed Dec 27 202300:23Dodgers, Angels, Red Sox Interested In Teoscar Hernandez
The Los Angeles Dodgers have shown renewed interest in free-agent outfielder Teoscar Hernandez, while the Los Angeles Angels and Boston Red Sox have recently shown interest. The 31-year-old slugger took a step back in the power department in 2023 with the Mariners but still slashed a respectable .258/.305/.435 with 26 home runs, 93 RBI, and seven stolen bases. While the Dodgers have already made some huge moves this offseason, they could improve their starting outfield, as Mookie Betts is slated to primarily play second base. The Angels could also do with bolstering their lineup due to the loss of Shohei Ohtani, while the Red Sox lost several key lineup pieces to free agency. Hernandez is a strikeout liability, but he hits the ball very hard. As such, he will be a relevant fantasy option in all leagues in 2024, but that will fluctuate depending on where he lands.

Sat Dec 23 202312:13Teoscar Hernandez Gaining Interest From Boston
Free agent outfielder Teoscar Hernandez is garnering interest from the Boston Red Sox, according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic. The 31-year-old slugger put up a subpar .258/.305/.435 batting line to go along with 26 home runs, 93 RBI, and seven stolen bases over 625 at-bats in his lone season with the Seattle Mariners in 2023. The M's declined to extend a $20.325 qualifying offer to Hernandez back in early November and he became a free agent. The Red Sox outfield could use some pop and Hernandez could be the man to provide it. He's slugged at least 25 home runs every season, excluding the shortened 2020 campaign, since 2019.

Fri Nov 10 202300:28Teoscar Hernandez On Dodgers Radar
Free-agent outfielder Teoscar Hernandez is on the Los Angeles Dodgers' radar. The Dodgers could use a corner outfielder and have shown interest in Hernandez before. He was an All-Star in 2021 and has at least 22 home runs in each full season since he became a regular in the league in 2018. The 31-year-old is also more attractive this offseason after the Seattle Mariners didn't extend him a qualifying offer, so the Dodgers wouldn't have to give up draft-pick compensation to bring him in this winter. Hernandez has developed a reputation for being a streaker hitter. He finished his first and possibly only season in Seattle in 2023 by slashing .258/.305/.435 with 26 home runs, 29 doubles, two triples, 93 RBI, seven stolen bases and 70 runs scored in 160 games. His .741 OPS and 106 OPS+ were among the lowest of his career for any of his full seasons played, and his 31.1% strikeout rate was the highest on the team and fifth-highest in MLB.

Tue Nov 7 202316:41Teoscar Hernandez Doesn't Receive Qualifying Offer From Mariners
The Seattle Mariners chose not to give a $20.325 million qualifying offer to outfielder Teoscar Hernandez, so the team won't receive draft-pick compensation if he signs with another team this winter. If Hernandez doesn't re-sign with Seattle, it will leave them with a hole in right field and in the middle of their lineup heading into next season. The M's were clearly wary of committing to a high price for a player prone to peaks and valleys offensively. The 31-year-old earned $14 million in 2023 in his final season of arbitration eligibility, and he'll be on the open market for the first time in his career. His .741 OPS and 106 OPS+ were among the lowest of his career this year for a full season, and his 31.1% strikeout rate was the highest on the team and fifth-highest in MLB.

Wed Sep 6 202300:38Teoscar Hernandez Homers Again, Plates Two Tuesday
Seattle Mariners outfielder Teoscar Hernandez continued his hot streak in Tuesday's 7-6 loss to the Reds. Hernandez went 2-for-4 with a single, a two-run home run, a walk, and a strikeout. The 30-year-old has now brought his season slash line up to .267/.311/.465 with 25 HR, 86 RBI, and six stolen bases. Fantasy managers will be pleased to see his power coming around just in time for the fantasy playoffs.

Tue Aug 29 202301:56Teoscar Hernandez Stays Hot With Two More RBI
Seattle Mariners outfielder Teoscar Hernandez went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI singles and a strikeout in a 7-0 shutout win over the Oakland Athletics on Monday. Hernandez drove home teammate Julio Rodriguez on two separate occasions--in the bottom of the third and bottom of the sixth--with a pair of RBI singles. Rodriguez has been the hottest hitter on the planet through the month of August but Hernandez has been raking at the dish as well. Back on July 31, Hernandez was slashing a poor .238/.288/.406 with 16 home runs and 59 RBI through 106 games. But in 24 games in August, the 30-year-old is slashing a ridiculous .371/.398/.649 with six home runs and 19 RBI. Overall, he has a .264/.308/.453 batting line with 22 home runs, 78 RBI, and six stolen bases across 508 at-bats. He's as streaky as they come but when he's hot, he can be a week winner in fantasy.

Sat Aug 19 202312:58Teoscar Hernandez Tallies Three Hits In Winning Effort
Seattle Mariners outfielder Teoscar Hernandez was on base often in Friday night's 2-0 victory over the division-rival Houston Astros, going 3-for-4 with a double and a strikeout. Hernandez now has nine hits in his last four games and is batting .351 (20-for-57) with two home runs, six doubles, five RBI and five runs scored in 15 games (14 starts) so far in the month of August for the M's. The 30-year-old isn't striking out as much during this hot stretch and should stick in fantasy lineups as long as he remains hot for Seattle. In his first year in Seattle in 2023, Hernandez is currently slashing .252/.298/.425 with 18 home runs, 23 doubles, two triples, 64 RBI, five stolen bases and 50 runs scored in 506 trips to the plate and 121 games.

Wed Aug 16 202309:29Teoscar Hernandez Homers, Collects Five Hits Tuesday
Seattle Mariners outfielder Teoscar Hernandez had a massive night at the plate on Tuesday against the Royals as he clubbed his 18th home run of the season while adding an RBI double as part of a 5-for-5 effort in a 10-8 extra-innings victory. It has largely been a down season for the veteran as Hernandez is hitting .250 with those 18 HR alongside five stolen bases and a .720 OPS across 118 appearances on the season, production that is precisely league average, as per his 100 wRC+. The 30-year-old has managed a minimum wRC+ of 129 in each of his last three seasons, although his 63 RBI on the season are on pace to finish as his second-highest total in parts of eight big-league seasons.

Wed Aug 2 202314:17Teoscar Hernandez Re-Enters Starting Lineup Wednesday
Seattle Mariners outfielder Teoscar Hernandez is back in the starting lineup Wednesday afternoon to take on Boston Red Sox right-hander Kutter Crawford. Hernandez was held out of the starting lineup for Tuesday night's contest due to the outfielder drawing significant interest prior to the MLB trade deadline but the club ended up hanging on to their powerful right-handed bat. However, Hernandez hasn't been at his best this season, hitting .238 with 16 homers, five stolen bases, and a .694 OPS across 106 appearances on the season. The outfielder has also seen his walk rate dip to 5.6% while his strikeout rate has risen to a hefty 32.1% clip. The 30-year-old is scheduled to hit free agency at season's end.

Mon Jul 31 202322:24Teoscar Hernandez Drawing Interest From At Least Six Teams
Seattle Mariners outfielder Teoscar Hernandez is drawing trade interest from at least half a dozen teams, and a trade is increasingly likely before the deadline on Tuesday, Aug. 1, according to sources. The Philadelphia Phillies, Toronto Blue Jays and San Francisco Giants are among the teams that have been involved. The Giants already traded for former Mariners outfielder AJ Pollock on Monday, so they could be out of the running now. The 30-year-old was originally traded from Toronto to Seattle in the offseason, and return to the Jays would make him even more attractive in a better offense and hitting environment. Hernandez strikes out a great deal with a league-leading 141 K's, and he's slashing .238/.288/.408 with 16 homers, 17 doubles, two triples, 58 RBI, five steals and 45 runs scored in 105 games.

Mon Jul 31 202319:24Mariners Listening On Teoscar Hernandez, Ty France
The Seattle Mariners willingness to listen to trade talks on outfielder Teoscar Hernandez and first baseman Ty France ahead of Tuesday's trade deadline is a significant development. The Toronto Blue Jays, San Francisco Giants, Milwaukee Brewers and Philadelphia Phillies are looking for right-handed hitters. In return, the M's will be looking for young bats. Seattle traded outfielder AJ Pollock and utility man Mark Matthias to the Giants on Monday, but they could still deal Hernandez and/or France by Tuesday. Hernandez has hit .238/.288/.408 with 16 homers, 58 RBI, five steals and 45 runs in 105 games in his first year in Seattle. Meanwhile, France is hitting .253/.324/.367 with only seven homers, 39 RBI and 57 runs in 392 at-bats in 2023.

Wed Jul 19 202312:04Teoscar Hernandez, Mariners Take Loss Versus Twins
Seattle Mariners outfielderTeoscar Hernandezwent 1-for-4 with a strikeout last night versus Minnesota. The Mariners are in fourth place in the AL West and have lost three of their previous five games. Over that five-game span, Hernandez is batting .100/.100/.150, with two hits and one RBI. The Mariners face Twins' right-handerKenta Maedain Seattle Wednesday. Versus righties this season, Hernandez is batting .228/.295/.377, just below the team's slash line of .228/.312./389. Fantasy managers should be concerned and monitor these numbers as we progress through the second half of the season. Despite his struggles, fantasy managers should continue to start Hernandez as he will look to turn things around beginning with Wednesday's game.

Fri Jun 30 202323:03Teoscar Hernandez Leaking Oil In Age-30 Season
While the overall numbers are still usable for fantasy baseball managers, there are plenty of warning signs that Seattle Mariners outfielder Teoscar Hernandez is slowly declining at the plate as he sits halfway through his age-30 season. Hernandez has appeared in 79 games thus far, so assuming good health, all counting stats can be easily doubled to predict his potential end-of-season numbers. The two-time silver slugger sits at 15 homers with a .250 batting average. Fantasy managers can live with that, just as they'll take his 35 runs, 46 RBI, and four stolen bases thus far. However, a career-low 5.2% walk rate paired with his highest strikeout rate since 2019 (32.6%) with a .330 BABIP suggest that .250 is about right for him in terms of average. The hard hit rate is almost five percentage points lower than last year, and the former Blue Jay is pulling the ball less. I will be surprised if Hernandez makes it to 30 bombs this season, both due to trends and potential injuries. If fantasy managers can sell the aging veteran power hitter for a younger, up-and-coming source of power with better batting average like Bryan Reynolds or Jazz Chisholm Jr., now might be the time to try and pull it off.

Sat Jun 17 202310:01Teoscar Hernandez Heating Up, Mashes Third Homer This Month
Seattle Mariners outfielder Teoscar Hernandez went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI as the club edged the Chicago White Sox 3-2 on Friday. The 30-year-old has come along very slowly during his Seattle debut season, but he's finally beginning to brew lately. Hernandez is hitting .366 (15-for-41) with seven extra-base hits and 10 RBI over his last 11 outings. Fantasy managers hope to see the two-time Silver Slugger continue this prosperity so as to maintain his spot in the cleanup position of the lineup. It's worth mentioning Hernandez has only stolen two bases since April 10, so there's still another dimension of his game yet to be fully grasped.

Wed Jun 7 202301:58Teoscar Hernandez Swats A Home Run On Tuesday
Seattle Mariners outfielder Teoscar Hernandez went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, two RBI, and a strikeout in a 4-1 win over the San Diego Padres on Tuesday. Hernandez broke up a 1-1 tie in the top of the sixth inning when he muscled a Brent Honeywell offering over the wall in center field. The 30-year-old slugger would then add to Seattle's lead in the top of the eighth inning when he singled in Ty France. It's been an up-and-down season so far for Teo but he's collected nine hits over the last seven games and seems to be heading in the right direction. For the season, he's slashing .246/.283/.422 with 10 home runs, 32 RBI, and three stolen bases over 232 at-bats.
