Thu Mar 2812:52Kyle Farmer Starting At Second On Opening Day
Minnesota Twins infielder Kyle Farmer, not Edouard Julien, is starting at second base and batting seventh on Opening Day on Thursday with the team facing left-hander Cole Ragans and the Kansas City Royals. In addition to Julien starting on the bench, which was common last year against lefties, too, Alex Kirilloff and Matt Waller will also grab pine on Opening Day. Farmer hit .290/.352/.430 against left-handers last year in 128 plate appearances, but it came with only two home runs and 16 RBI. In total in 120 games in his first year in Minnesota last year, Farmer slashed .256/.317/.408 with 11 home runs and 46 RBI in 369 trips to the plate. He'll be a low-upside DFS sleeper in fantasy lineups to kick the 2024 season off.

Mon May 8 202309:32Kyle Farmer Can Return This Week
Minnesota Twins infielder Kyle Farmer (jaw) will undergo another dental procedure on Monday, and then the club will evaluate him and decide if he's ready to return. If everything goes according to plan, then the 32-year-old should be back on the field for the next home stand, which begins on Tuesday against the San Diego Padres. Farmer landed on the injured list in early April after he was hit in the face by a pitch that damaged his jaw and required surgery. Before going on the shelf, he was batting .226 with one home run, six runs, and five RBI across 11 games. Farmer isn't much of a fantasy standout and is droppable in every format.

Wed Apr 12 202317:33Kyle Farmer Needs Surgery, Doesn't Have Fractured Jaw
Minnesota Twins manager Rocco Baldelli said that infielder Kyle Farmer (jaw) will have a procedure "to realign his teeth and fix a major laceration of the lower jaw" after he was hit by a pitch in the face against the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday. Farmer went 0-for-1 in the game with a strikeout before departing, and he'll likely be placed on the injured list. The 32-year-old had started the last three games with Carlos Correa battling back spasms, but Correa is expected to return to the starting lineup on Thursday against the New York Yankees. Farmer entered Wednesday's game hitting .233 (7-for-30) with a double, home run, five RBI and six runs scored in his first 10 games of the season.

Wed Apr 12 202314:31Kyle Farmer Exits Early Following Hit By Pitch Wednesday
Minnesota Twins infielder Kyle Farmer exited Wednesday's game after being hit in the head by a pitch from White Sox starter Lucas Giolito. It was a scary scene as Farmer went down hard before walking off slowly with a towel over the side of his head. Farmer struck out in his first plate appearance before exiting in his second and is now hitting just .226 with one home run and a .641 OPS across 11 games to this point. Willi Castro came in to run for Farmer out of the seven-hole in the Twins lineup.

Fri Nov 18 202220:18Kyle Farmer Sent From Reds To Twins
Kyle Farmer is the newest member of the Minnesota Twins after being acquired in a trade from the Cincinnati Reds. The Reds will receive minor league right-handed pitcher Casey Legumina in exchange for Farmer. The 32-year-old Farmer enjoyed arguably his best year at the plate in 2022, recording a .701 OPS with 14 home runs in 583 plate appearances, though that only resulted in a 91 wRC+. Farmer figures to be a depth piece and fill some of the playing time vacated by the earlier trade of Gio Urshela to the Los Angeles Angels, but fantasy managers should not look to invest in the righty swinger.

Tue Aug 9 202216:38Kyle Farmer Returns Against Mets
Cincinnati Reds infielder Kyle Farmer (neck) is back in the starting lineup on Tuesday against New York Mets right-hander Carlos Carrasco, starting at third base and hitting third in the batting order. Farmer was out of action on Monday with a sore neck, but he'll be back in the lineup a day later and will shift to the hot corner with Mike Moustakas (calf) sitting after getting injured on Monday. The 31-year-old is hitting a modest .248/.324/.366 with six home runs, 51 RBI, 39 runs scored and four stolen bases in 322 at-bats for the Reds in 2022. He's been pretty bad since the All-Star break, going 9-for-49 (.184) with no home runs, five RBI, eight runs scored and 11 strikeouts in 15 games.

Mon Aug 8 202218:37Kyle Farmer Scratched On Monday
Cincinnati Reds infielder Kyle Farmer (neck) has been scratched from the starting lineup for Monday's game against the New York Mets. The 31-year-old is dealing with neck stiffness, so he'll get the night off. This doesn't sound like something that is going to force Farmer to the injured list. Fantasy managers should assume he's day-to-day until the team says any different. Mike Moustakas will cover third base and bat third against right-hander Chris Bassitt on Monday. Fantasy managers can look elsewhere for a streaming option for Monday.

Wed Aug 3 202215:01Kyle Farmer On The Bench Wednesday
Cincinnati Reds infielder Kyle Farmer isn't in the starting lineup for a matchup with the Miami Marlins and right-handed starter Sandy Alcantara on Wednesday. Farmer is batting .248 with a .322 on-base percentage, six home runs, and four stolen bases in 352 plate appearances this season. He'll head to the bench with Jose Barrero starting at shortstop instead and batting eighth. He owns a .284/.344/.415 slash line on the season to go along with five homers, four stolen bases, 39 RBI and 27 runs. We should have an update on the status of his hand shortly.

Cincinnati Reds shortstop Kyle Farmer (rest) is out of the starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Toronto Blue Jays. He has been dealing with some soreness lately, but has played in three straight games. This appears to be a routine day off, so fantasy managers shouldn't be concerned. Matt Reynolds will bat ninth and play shortstop versus right-hander Alek Manoah. Fantasy managers can find a better streaming option than Reynolds for Saturday's contest.

Sat Oct 2 202120:16Kyle Farmer Ruled Out For The Season
Cincinnati Reds shortstop Kyle Farmer (abdominal) will not play again this year, according to Reds manager David Bell. He is dealing with an abdominal strain that has held him out of two straight games. He won't partake in the team's final game of the year on Sunday either. The 31-year-old had the best season of his career this year. Over 147 games, he slashed .263/.316/.416 with 16 home runs, 63 RBI and 60 runs. He could have a battle for the team's starting shortstop position next year with 23-year-old Jose Barrero, who has started two straight games at shortstop with Farmer out.

Farmer spent a total of three days on the paternity list as he welcomed a child with his wife. Jose Barrero and Eugenio Suarez split shortstop duties while Farmer was out. Farmer should now take back over as the team's primary shortstop going forward. It's been a bit of a breakout year for the 31-year-old, who is slashing .254/.308/.397 with 13 home runs, 53 RBI and 51 runs over 132 games.

Cincinnati Reds shortstop Kyle Farmer went 2-for-4 with a double and a solo homer in a 3-1 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals on Monday. The veteran shortstop is enjoying a career year in Cincy, hitting .257 with 12 homers, 47 runs, 48 RBI, and two steals over 397 at-bats. Thu Aug 26 202112:36Kyle Farmer Absent From Thursday's Lineup
Cincinnati Reds shortstop Kyle Farmer is not in the starting lineup for Thursday's game against Brett Anderson and the Milwaukee Brewers. Jose Barrero will be the team's shortstop for the game and he's batting eighth in the order. Farmer has continued to be a solid producer for the Reds over the past few weeks. He's recorded at least one hit in 12 of his last 13 games. He's seen his power numbers drop off as his .369 slugging percentage in August is well below his .691 slugging percentage in July. His multiple positional eligibilities make him enticing for fantasy purposes and he's worth rostering in deep leagues if you need him at one of his many positions.

Wed Aug 18 202111:19Kyle Farmer Getting The Day Off On Wednesday
Cincinnati Reds shortstop Kyle Farmer is out of the starting lineup for Wednesday's game against Adrian Sampson and the Chicago Cubs. Jose Barrero is getting the start at shortstop and batting seventh in the game. Farmer has been cooling off a bit lately after a scorching month of July. Farmer slashed .395/.456/.691 with five home runs in July, but he's slashed .254/.277/.381 with just one home run so far in August. He is, however, riding a seven-game hitting streak and he has continued to see regular playing time with the team. Expect to see him back in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Miami Marlins.

Fri Aug 13 202117:28Kyle Farmer Isn't Starting On Friday
Cincinnati Reds shortstop Kyle Farmer isn't starting on Friday. The 30-year-old has established himself as the Reds' starting shortstop this season, batting .262 with a .322 on-base percentage, 11 home runs, and two stolen bases in 380 plate appearances. However, he won't start against right-hander Zack Wheeler and the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday. Instead, it's Eugenio Suarez moving over from third base to start at shortstop. Suarez is batting seventh against Wheeler. The 29-year-old has continued to hit for power, with 22 home runs in 459 plate appearances. However, he's also batting .184 with a .259 on-base percentage this season. A .198 BABIP might have something to do with those struggles, but fantasy managers should probably look elsewhere for infield options against Wheeler in both daily fantasy play and season-long formats.

Farmer is worth a look in deeper mixed leagues and NL-only fantasy formats.
